Trying to Quit Smoking?

Quote From: manomania

 good afternoon!
i passed my eight and a half months yesterday. i still get my urges to smoke! my new job keeps me on my feet a lot so there is no time for funny stuff there. downside of it that my job creates the urge for smoking! by the way my new job is roasting coffee, and every morning we have to cup the roast from the day before! but my success is that i had to reprogram my brain! don't worry about any weight gain or bad habits you pick up in your first few months.
you'll have lots of spare moments to deal with them than. but for now your only focus should be to stay as far away from the smokes as you can.
till than.'

ps: i hope the rest of the gang is still on board!
sorry for not posting that often! will get my new pc at work within the next few weeks!
Well congrads on eight months. It has been 2 weeks 3 days and 8 hours for me. I could not drink coffee for the first week, as I was so afraid I would want to smoke. And, I usually drink coffee for morning till bedtime. An IV would be easier than all the trips to Dunkin Donuts.I'm glad you are enjoying your new job. I am also on the east coast. Keep it up Gina

Trying to Quit Smoking?

Quote From: tray00

Just wanted to say hi!  Ann that is such a great idea to do with pots!  I have a freind that does stuff like that.  She had this cofee table, it had three peices of glass in it, anyhow she took the glass out , and the placed a peice of wood under it, in then used these tiles that she bought and grouted them in.  Does the table ever look awesome!  Great thing to do instead of throwing it out because  a peice of glass got broken!

This is my third day on the welbutrin, I hope it starts to kick in!  I am looking forward to a year from now when I can call my self a non-smoker!

I tried Welbutron years ago. The Dr told me not to even try to quit until I had taken it for 2 weeks. I surely hopes it works for you Good Luck Gina

Trying to Quit Smoking?

Quote From: annpar55

Hello everyone, I'm into a lot of gratitude tonight..I just wanted to share with everyone about the blessings I feel after watching all the suffering..I cut back on my TV today and did some stuff with my granddaughter, CAssie, this weekend..we went out to a nice restaurant last night and today we started a mosaic table..I am not very crafty, but there is one thing I do well..I leave pots on the patio and forget about them until they crack in the cold weather, so then they are able to crack some more and I make stepping stones or tables.  I buy those plain stepping stones at Walmart, then glue the pieces of ceramic to the stone, then I grout it with either tile grout or cement, whatever I have in the garage..it's an easy thing to do and people love homemade gifts..anyway, that's what I did..my husband went to his cousin's to four wheel down the river, but I just wasn't up to it..we went back on the 4th of July..took the dogs, Cassie and our RV..it was an awful trip..I had just gone back to smoking and we had a storm, I didn't want to relive that..anyway, I'm still not smoke free..I've cut back is all I can say progress wise, but I will get my head on straight soon..I applied for a job at the Curves where I exercise and I know they do not want a smoker for the job..so I have to quit for that..wish my self esteem was high enough to quit for me again, but I'm just too weak right now..at least that's my excuse today..anyway, I just wanted you all to know I love you all..during this time of crisis in America, we need love..best to you all..Ann
The tables sound beautiful. You will be smoke free, just you wait and see. I felt, that I would never quit. All my freinds and sisters quit quite sometime ago,and they were constantly after me to quit. I am not sure what finally possesed me to quit, but out of the clear blue, I decided, when I leave for work in the morning, I am not going to smoke anymore. And I have not. I do have to little ones, I adopted, after raiseing my family, the youngest biological daughter is 26, and I think it is the thought of them needing me for years to come, that finally made me decide to be smoke free. One of these days you will decide enough is enough, and you to will be smoke free. Good Luck and God Bless Gina

Trying to Quit Smoking?

Hi everyone,

I haven't been too successful in posting. So here goes again. To get the meter it is www.silkquit.org. it tells you how to put it to your task bar. The meter has really helped in keeping me going.

Linda

Five months, six days, 40 minutes and 48 seconds. 3792 cigarettes not smoked, saving $721.16. Life saved: 1 week, 6 days, 4 hours, 0 minutes.

Welbutrin

Whne I quit back in Feb or what ever it was I was quitting cold turkey.  And the Doctor I work with gave me a sample of the welbutrin.  So I didn't start taking the welbutrin unitl I was into my 10 th hour of being smoke free.  I do think that tommorrow morning is too soon, as today is my first day taking two.  SO I think if I wait until I have two days of taking the full dose it will be easier.  Will Power!  My mil was here on the weekend and she has quit, and I think if she can quit, I can quit! It is such a scary thing, I just remember the first day of the last time I quit, it was so dam hard.  But then at the end of the day it was a great feeling!

The other thing I say is when you set your meter, set the time to the time you go to bed.  That way when you wake up in the morning it says you have been smoke free for 8 hours and then by lunch it says 13 hours and it makes it easier, as the time seems longer.  You think oh I have gone that long why can't I go longer......

Anyhow, hope you all have a great day!

Hi K;   Nice to see you here!  Yes it is very hard to quit no matter how young or not so young we are.  Since you were able to do it before and for one and a half years, you can do this again.  Everyone here has been where you are now.  It took me several tries to do it.  I would not have done this without my friends here in this board.  Everyone here is priceless to me!   You need to get to your doctor and get some Welbutrin or it's equivalent.  Some of us have done it without these meds so it's up to you if you want to go this route. I used the pills and the Nico-derm patches.  Some of us went cold turkey.  It's really up to you, you should know yourself better than anyone else. Then you need one of these meters (Silkquit).  Linda posted the site in one of her messages.  You need to pick a quit date.  You need to find something else to do with your hands while you are in your first month or so.  I knitted and did a lot of crossword puzzles.  Good music to meditate helps a lot too.  Long fragrant baths and meditation.   I had to stay away from all of my smoking friends for the first month or so.  I did loose a few "friends" because I quit but these people were never really my friends.   And yes, I did fall off the wagon. With the help of my friends here, I got back on the wagon and been smoke free for 6 months, two weeks now.   The idea is that you post here often and be honest with your feelings.  It's not easy to quit but it is doable.    Have a great day and hope to read you here again soon.   Aggie Six months, two weeks, 11 hours, 57 minutes and 13 seconds. 4887 cigarettes not smoked, saving $1,954.56. Life saved: 2 weeks, 2 days, 23 hours, 15 minutes.
