Climbing a Mountain

Well with all the worry of Hurricane Rita, I remained smoke-free. With so much going on with the hurricane of not knowing exactly where it would make landfall.

It is somewhat strange at times, what will really trigger the desire to go back to smoking. I do believe in my quitting smoking, you do have to be on your guard at all times for a while. With so much going on in the news of the hurricane, I didn't think of it, at those times!!!!!. It was when I had a moment to myself, that I thought about it. I was big on rewarding myself for little tasks, or should I say I was just addicted to smoking and I thought I needed a reason.

I take a deep breath and inhale, then exhale as to taking a drag off a cigarette.

With all the stuff  going on from the hurricane, I did not think once, about my inhaler. Yippee.  Before that, I made sure to always have it in a security spot (my purse) !!!!!

Now it's my inhale and exhale of breathing that does it for me.

For all those that are still yo-yoing with smoking, please try again. There are all types of mountains we climb, for all different reasons. So what if you tried a hundred times, maybe this is the time for you now. Get all your gear (knowledge) together, and take a deep breath, and start climbing!!!!! Before you know it, you will be at the top.

Hi Linda, Well, you are right, when I feel the urge, I do the same .Though it has only been 1mth,1 wk, 1d 16 hrs, and 41 mins. for me, I find I very rarely get the urge. I thought it would be much worst than this. I am pretty busy though. I work 40 hrs, at my daytime job, where there is smokeing, and this 92 year old woman is the picture of health and has smoked since age 14. And, I work another 20 and sometimes 30 hours at my second shift job. Plus I have an adopted 3 year old and an adopted 20 month old with downs syndrom. I guess being busy all the time is what is makeing it easier for me. Good luck, keep it up, you are doing great Gina

Look at you girls go!!!

Lets see now:  Aggie - 7 months!! woooo hoooo!; linda12k - 6 months!! woooooo hooooo!!!; itsgina14 - one month - you goooo girl; anniesgran - 10 days and goin strong!!!  I think I can safely say for us all in here: "you make us proud!"  Never surrender, never give up!! :)

I have to say I'm a little envious of you all, too.  Why?  Because I tried and tried to quit cold turkey.  I couldn't do it.  I chewed off my fingernails and was eyeballin my daughter's when my hubby (Gary) tapped me on the head and said, "Don't even think about it!". ! HEHEHEHE.

What you are doin is so awesome and I'm so proud to be here, coming along, in on the journey towards freedom with you four.  Every post you ladies make is inspiring for someone out here who's not ready to talk to us yet, but he/she is reading and taking comfort, gaining strength from reading your posts.

Linda, you're so right about watching out for those temptations, and yes they can be so sneaky about how they lure ya into failing.  For me it was those times when you light up without even thinking about it.  Suddenly there's a smoke in your hand and you can't remember lighting it up.  Sound familiar.  Yeah, those are the sneaky ones, the ones you have to really be on guard against..  That one that completes your first cup of coffee in the morning and tucks you in before youy close your eyes at night.  How about the one that substitutes for dessert after a meal or the one you have to light up before you enter a club or party where you don't really know anyone.  Its your best friend.  Its the one that calms you down, your sedative when the road gets bumpy.  The excuse for taking a little break and isn't that just what you say as you open the door?  "I need to take a little smoke break, be right back".

Tell you what, though.  I don't smoke anymore and have been clean for 9 years as of Sept 20, 1996!!  And I know I won't go back to them, I'm positive, why?  Because I did break down about 6 months into my quitting.  I smoked 3 packs in as many days.  And the best part of this is that when I finished that 3rd pack, I simply didn't buy another pack.  I had really done it, really turned the corner and closed the door and I feel great.

I believe in the four of you, I just KNOW you're going to succeed.  Why? Because you're all sharing with us.  You're checking in and sharing with us.  Putting it all out there for all to see.  I pray for you cuz I know how much it helps.  I know the struggle can be really touch.  Lean on us, we who are here sharing your stories and caring about each of you, because you matter.

Take care, ladies and remember to lean on us, we're here for ya, we want you to succeed!

Hi

Hi you guys, long time no see, or chat! It was so funny to logon and not know anyone who posted, well I take that back, I saw Linda, but other than that it's all new faces. Good to have you all on board, maybe my memory has lapsed on me though, and either way, it's not a surprise. Good job to everyone, keep pushing forward!!!

I wanted to update you all on my husband's cousin, in the car accident. She is now out of ICU and in a regular room. They have started her on physical therapy and I don't think to this day are sure of the damage. She is talking some though and it's honestly just a miracle. NO honestly it's God! So, we are all so thankful for all the prayers that went out to her, from the bottom of our hearts.

As for me and smoking, I am on my 2nd month of 1 a day. I can't believe I've cut back to ONLY 1 A DAY. I know I'm still holding on though even if it is 1 and I have to let go. I'm working on it. It just seems that if it's not one thing it's another to keep my nerves SHOT!

So, where's all the old timers,.....which thinking I did see Aggie and Ann posted too, sorry ladies, and how are you? WHat about...Traci? How are you?
