I live in NEPA and have tried for several years now to find play groups and friendships. I feel I am a little out of the loop. I have two older sons and since then remarried. We have two young children. We go to the library, gym, playground, school yards and when I do start a friendship It seems they fall apart I believe due to maturity. I do not want to talk about the newest style of boots out. Nor do I want to talk about the new night club that opened up. I am a stay at home mother who devotes my life to my husband and children. I am not old, infact (OK I'll spill it out), I'm only 34. It just seems so much more difficult to find other mature mothers out there who are also at home. When we go to the park, I find myself surrounded by 15 - 18 year old mothers who dropped out of school, live at home with their parents and spend their evenings "clubbing" (I really don't even know what that is).

Anyways if anyone has any helpful info. of joining a mature playgroup (that also doesn't involve taking out a loan, many of them are so expensive) please respond to my post.

I understand

It is hard to find friends that enjoy  and value the same things you do.  I have few friends because I have been a stay home mom for 16 years.  All the people I grew up with are just now having children.  So when I was home changing diapers they were out clubbing and having fun at college.  Now my kids are old enough that I can go out for the evening but now they have to find sitter and worry all night if the sitter is really watching the child.  My friendships with those people are not close.  I feel lonely at times so I started going to classes for things I enjoy to meet others who like the thing I do.  It has helped some good luck.

NEPA MOM HERE

Hi I am so excited about finding someone close to me and HAVE  the same FEELINGS  that I do. It is so wild to find those kind of people like us. I am the same way I put my family first. I really do not have friends that I can call a friend. They all have different values than I have. I hope to here back from you. I am also very close to your age by 2 years. I like to here from you. Maybe we can meet up sometime and have a kids day out. I have 7 children ranges from 14 years to 1 year.

Hi Tator,
I was really shoked that anyone even replied to my message, it was awhile back, and I never recieved an email telling me. As you know NEPA is pretty big, so it would be really near if we were near each other. I am still pretty much in the same boat, just now that my youngest son has started school. I really thought that I would find my place once he did. But it is the same, but instead of young kids with babies and hangovers, I have landed smack dan in the middle of la la land. He attends a Montessori, which educationally speaking is phenominal. He is striving forward achedemically and socially. But the other moms there, wow..... I feel like I am in the movie "Stepford Wives". I look around and listen to them talk and think, "Are you kidding me?"
