After two previous attempt to send you a reply I'm trying again. First I want to introduce myself as an addict and alcoholic with a thirty year history of use. I got sober last year and God willing will celebrate 365 days and nights ;) of continuous sobriety on September 28 of 2005. I first want to tell you that I know how hard it is to do this alone. In fact it's close to impossible. All addicts and Alcoholics suffer from terminal uniqueness in that they think they're situation is different from anyone Else's. Only with the help of family friends and working a program weather it be 12-step or something else can you achieve sobriety. Sometimes it takes a while to get family and friends on board but as you live in sobriety they usually fall in line - unless they are addicts and alcoholics themselves.

Please do not let the cost of treatment keep you from getting help. Think of it this way how much time and money are you spending to obtain your pills. First thing go to your Dr.and tell them you are addicted to pain pills. If you absolutely can't afford traditional detox which is 5-7 days in the hospital. Then your Dr. can give you medications to help with the physical discomforts of detox. Next start going to Narcotics Anonymous meetings if you can't  find NA go to AA tell them what you are looking for. Some AA meetings will welcome you in others won't but they will all generally steer you in the right direction to get help. These meetings are usually available in the evenings so you can go when your husband is home and the kids are in bed. Some women's meetings even welcome children and the members take turns watching the kids.

If you are in state funded insurance make sure your doctor gives you a primary diagnosis of depression with addiction as a 2nd. You are depressed weather you think so or not and most state funded insurance won't cover addiction related treatment but with the depression diagnosis you may qualify for inpatient treatment in a state funded or County funded bed. Believe me everything will fall into place when you get honest with your husband and DR. Write to me here for encouragement and help. I always try to answer daily but this new board is problematic sometimes. As I said I wrote this message twice before only to have it deleted by the system. It's enough to make me drink again - just kidding but we do have to have a sense of humor about these things

Peace and God Bless you

Please don't use money as a means to not get help.  Your'e husband needs to watch your kids now before he has to raise them because you are dead.  12-20 pills aday is a lethal dose.  Narcotics is a free organization where you can get help.  And I don't know about your state's facilities and medical help, but if I were you I would go into debt to help before my children don't have a mother to take care of them.  I might seem harsh but I just think you really need to get real Right now.  That is a lot of pills and you might feel fine but I will tell you what your Liver is being destroyed by the day and your Heart is too.  And everytime you get in that car with your children you risk having, getting dizzy, losing conscienciousness,  a heart attack,  etc.,  and killing yourself, those children and maybe someone elses family, and My grandchild and Son and and his wife live in AZ AND  Frankly: I am taking it very personal that you are putting my family at risk.

Please talk to your Husband, go to a meeting, go to a hospital, go to a church do anything to Just please GET HELP!!!!!!

WHERE CAN I GO?

I AM A 23 YEAR OLD MOTHER OF TWO. I AM ADDICTED TO METH AND HAVE BEEN USING FOR ALMOST TEN YEARS NOW, PRETTY MUCH AN A DAILY BASIS. I HAVE LOST SO MUCH BECAUSE OF THIS DRUG. I HAVE DUG MYSELF INTO A WHOLE THAT I CANT SEEM TO GET OUT OF. I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO GET INTO A 4 MONTH IN PATIENT PROGRAM FOR MOTHERS AND THEIR CHILDREN. I HAVE BENN ON THE WAITING LIST FOR SOME TIME NOW, BUT AM GETTING PASSED UP BECAUSE I DONT HAVE THE MONEY TO PAY FOR IT, OR THE SUPPORT. I AM FIGHTING THIS BATTLE COMPLETELY ALONE AND IM NOT GETTING ANYWHERE. I ALSO HAVE LEGAL PROBLEMS, I WAS JUST RE INSTATED 2 YEARS PROBATION FOR THE SECOND TIME. THIS IS MY LAST CHANCE TO GET IT RIGHT. IF I MESS THIS ONE UP THE ALTERNATIVE IS UP TO 12 YEARS IN THE DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS, THAT IS IF I DONT GET ANOTHER CASE!  I WAS TOLD THAT CHILD PROTECTION FUNDS THIS PROGRAM BUT WHEN I SPOKE WITH THEM I WAS TOLD THAT THEY WOULD ONLY PAY FOR IT IF YOU HAVE AN OPEN CASE OR ARE FIGHTING FOR CUSTUDY OF YOUR CHILDREN. I DONT KNOW WHY THEY WONT HELP BEFORE IT GETS TO THAT POINT. THERE IS NOT ENOUGH RESOURCES FOR PEOPLE WHO ARE REALLY SERIOUS ABOUT CHANGING THEIR LIVES. I AM RUNNING OUT OF OPTIONS, TIME AND PATIENTS. I DONT KNOW WHERE ELSE TO TURN!!!!

If you can afford rent you can afford sober living. There are many sober living homes that allow you to bring your kids along. Just make sure you find one that's for women and children. Also you didn't say weather you were going to Narcotics Anonymous. It's free (well they usually want a buck or so a meeting, but no one will kick you out if you can't pay) and probably the best help you can get.

I don't mean to sound harsh but you obviously have enough money to obtain your drugs. I am a recovering addict and alcoholic who thought I couldn't afford treatment either. I started going to AA and got a sponsor. She told me to figure out how much I was spending on booze and drugs. Well it came to over a grand a month. I started into an out patient program which was $250.00 a month for three months. I contintue to attend AA and work a 12-step program and by the grace of God will be sober 1 year on September 29, 2005.

As of right now I have no rent, i am living with family. I have looked into all of sober living homes. Everyone is different, not everyone can quit by themselves. I have been using since I was 14 years old, daily. Its also a part of my probation to be in an inpatient program, I have to do this or its prison!!

When you go to AA or NA your are not quitting alone. You are quiting with the assistance of a worldwide fellowship of people who have been in your shoes. You have been using since age 14 so at 23 that makes 9 years. I used from age 9 to 43 so that's 34 years of drinking and drugging. I was as close to hopeless as a person can get. My next step was the street. So if I can do this I know you can. If in-patient is a part of your probation then they should have some referrals for programs that can take you. If you have to be on the waiting list your case will look a whole lot better if you are attending meetings daily and working a 12 step program. You are right that not everyone can quit alone and those who do are probably not real addicts. Addicts like you and me need help to quit but we still have to find the strength within ourselves to get well. I'm not just some person who doesn't have a clue - I'm an addict too. I have almost a year of physical and mental sobriety. Life is tough a lot of the time but as I have said here before my worst day sober is 100% better than my best day using. Do it for your kids. They deserve to have mom.

Peace and God bless you.

Hola!

Maybe it's just me, or maybe I'm missing something, but some of what you're saying doesn't add up.

For one thing, you say you've been on waiting lists for "sober houses".  If you're still using every day, this is nonsensical, since sober houses always require a period of sobriety.  And I'd guess that's especially true if the home allows kids.  You wouldn't even pass the UA they give you at the door!

Then you say you have to be in an inpatient program or you'll go to jail.  Again, why the search for sober houses if you need to be in an inpatient program?  And are you sure that's your only option?

Since inpatient programs are costly and many can't afford them, I find it a bit surprising that this would be your only choice other than jail.

I mention the above because I truthfully can't tell whether you're genuinely confused or you're misrepresenting the situation on purpose.

Also, are you sure you're really ready to do what it takes to get and stay sober?  I know you want to stop using as a way to avoid jail, but that's not the same thing at all.   And it's not even about the recognition of the damage you're doing to yourself and your children.

It's never hopeless, and there are things that you can do and lots of people who care, but if you're truly reaching out for help, take a few minutes and please clarify the situation.  What exactly do you need to do (legally) and what is the timeframe?  Have you attended any AA or NA meetings?  The people in these meetings have "been there and done that" -- they might know resources you're not aware of.  Is there anyone who can help care for your kids for an extended period of time??

You alone with family??

Quote From: lynzrae

I am a recovering addict.  My drug of choice is Meth too.  I have not touched it since 1997 thank the good Lord, and THE 12-STEP program.

I am wondering why you say you live with family & you still have your children; in your custody; and you say you are all alone.

Maybe you should try and stay clean for a few days and see how you really feel, because I am sure you have forgotten what it is like to feel anything true to yourself(for a long time, you said 9+yrs.).

We addicts have a tendency to exagerate situations and minimize our own responsibility.  We can't help it we are sick and I don't mean to tick you off or anything.  I just know that after you stay up week after week you just don't think clearly.

So instead of letting that thinking that you have to stop the stuff forever think of it like this: "I will just stop until I can get a clear head again."  Really clear your  mind of all the selfish crap and get what needs to be done for yourself and those precious children You brought into this world.

Go find the help you need to get into the treatment you need, go to churches, go to family, call in markers, do what you have to.   Have your family, take care of your kids, (if it is a safe place) if that makes it easier and faster for you to get into treatment, just get into treatment!!!!

Then after you are clear headed and the courts are happy and the kids are settled and your treatment is over; if you still feel the need to go out and use then go for it.  But for CRYING OUT LOUD you CAN NOT MAKE RESPONSIBLE CHOICES HIGH.  SO TAKE A BREAK FROM THE DOPE.  COUNT YOUR BLESSINGS!!!! TAKE A GOOD LOOK AT YOUR KIDS BEFORE THEY ARE GROWN AND GONE BECAUSE YOU KNOW HOW TIME FLIES WHEN YOUR TWEEKIN!!!! AND PLEASE JUST TAKE IT ONE DAY AT A TIME(One minute at a Time if you have too!)

God has been my best friend through it all.   I will be praying for you, and your kids.  They are worth it!!!!!!!!  And the battle is not half as hard as ya think once ya put down the dope.  I am living proof!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   Good Luck Kid!!!!!!!!!!!!
