Bipolar Disorder

Quote From: mommajenny

i am just wondering if your husband is the father of your son? You keep saying my son. Also i think that regardless what your husband thinks or does you need to stand by your son and help him to get better. If you dont then what reason does he have to get better at all. He needs his family. Your husband needs to realize that your son has a disease. You need to talk about the hurt that he has caused and look at it differently now. He is sick. He needs support so that he can be a father to his own child. Your husband is hurt but to threaten you to not pay the bills is crazy. You both need some councelling. Talk to your church. Nothing in this world is greater than a mothers love and you are doing the right thing by helping your son. Your husband will realize that sooner or later.
Oh my god, I am soooo sorry, you have to go through all of this by yourself. My husband has bipolar and I too had to got thru his mood swings and parania thoughts by myself. No one would listen to me  when I told them he was sick.

Hope for severe bipolar disorder

Quote From: rianant310

I just read your post (I am a new user as of five minutes ago).  Please don't give up hope.  I was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder seven  years ago after trying to kill myself. For nearly five year after that I was very depressed and really didn't want to live.  All I could think about was everything Bipolar Disorder had taken from me.  I was also very angry because no one--especially my family--seemed to care enough to educate themselves on Bipolar Disorder.  I finally decided, thanks to some special people in my life, that I would read everything possible on Bipolar Disorder and do everyting in MY power to help myself.  In these efforts, I have come across a poem written by a mother whose daughter is bipolar.  I would like to share that poem with you now:

It's a journey you've not chosen,
destination not know
but no matter where it takes you
I won't let you walk alone

No matter where the highs and lows
may take you to
I'll hold your hand, and take a stand
and be right there with you

Don't ever panic
and think you can't make it through
those thoughts are just the illness
and really are not true

When the deepest of depressions
come swirling in
I won't let you sink
I'll teach you how to swim!

When the mania peaks out
at an all-time high
I'll keep you grounded
until it passes by

When we see the delusions
come sneaking in like thieves
I won't let them steal your mind
and confuse all your beliefs

When you've had more than you can take
and you're thinking suicide
you're riding waves of destruction
that are welling up inside
I'll control the demon
and I'll turn back the tide

It's a journey you've not chosen
with pitfalls and dangerous ground
but bipolar is just an illness
that we will turn around

So take my hand and walk with me
and trust my every move
we'll ride out the journey
and I'll help you make it through!

Though it's a journey you've not chosen
our destination we have found
with medication and treatments
we have gotten to solid ground

As we move beyond the illness
lest we dare forget
Let's use our story to help those
we haven't met

And with our encouragement
help them find their way
and stand beside them
till we hear them say:

It was a journey not chosen
but our destination we have found
bipolar was just an illness
that we turned around

Then we will add them to our group
and still we won't forget
that it will always be our duty
to help those we haven't met.

This poems was written by Mary Worthen in her book:  Journey Not Chosen, Destination Not Known.

While it's just a poem, it has given me hope that there are people out there who both care and work hard to understand bipolar disorder.  It has given me hope that, one day, I will find someone who will stand beside me and help the way she has helped her daughter.  But for now, my job is to just hang on.

I, like Lorrie, am more than willing to exchange e-mails so we can help each other.  Please consider doing so.  And PLEASE, hang on!

weight and bipolar

Quote From: noemialani

I am wondering if anyone else has problems with self image? I am 117 lbs. and everyone says I'm so slim. I don't see myself as slim just as overwieght. I avoid looking in the mirror because all I see is fat. Is it the bipolar condition or something else? I'm under alot of stress with my bipolar daughter and maybe this is a form of self destruction. I have a problem taking care of myself. Please give me some insights. I feel I'm on the brink of explosion.
i have no appetite on my meds and lost alot 10 lbs my face is also withdrawn and i am feeling nauseated most of the day

I have been losing weight due to my Manic Depressive and or Depressive Disorder. I have lost weight, gained it back, now I have lost more which is good. I hear voices, see snakes crawling all on the stove and people. I do hear voices frequently. I tell my psychiatrist, Mom doesn't understand completely. I have lived with this for over 20 years. Different medications, hospitalizations, different meds. I just wish my Mother understood my disease more, She thinks Just get over it. I wish someone could help her understand. I Need Answers

I need some answers about Bipolar disorder. I'm 17 and i haven't the slightest clue about it. My Bofriend(16) is bipolar, his doctor has put him on Zoloft, but he refuses to take it.  I read that Zoloft isn't supposed to be given to children under 18 to treat depression. Which is another thing, I do not thing he is depressed at all. I do believe he has issues with his anger, but i think that stems from his childhood.(it's a really long story but to sum it up, he's been tossed around from foster homes to family members home and now to a family friends) I think with the right medication and some evaluations that he can be helped. I just don't know anything about this disorder, and I just want to help him. Thanks

bi-polar`

Quote From: tamsin

Hi Wendy, my name is Linda, I have been on "Lamictal" for a few years now due to my bipolar state.  I also take Prozac and Lithium to stablize my moods.  I am not sure which meds are helping but somthing is. Oh yeah...  I am also taking trylyptal as well.  My problem is, I start feeling better after a crash and my husbands constant support and nagging to take my pills, I start to convince myself that I dont need them anymore and that I am strong enough to go it with out them.  Then I have some very crazy high and whirlwind days.  I am sure that I am CURED!!!!!.  And then....  the terrible fall and crash harder than the last time.  I am struggleing to continue to stay on my meds and to combat the feelings that I just dont need them anymore.  It is an every day challenge.  I hope that the meds will help you and you can find the peace in your life.  If you have any more questions or would just like to talk via the board, just let me know...   good luck!

Hi! My name is also Linda and I was concerned why you were on 3 different mood stablizers. I understand that  your moods aren't stable yet. I hope this doesn't offend you. I was just wondering.LindaW

Your kind of right about Zoloft and bipolar. Usually a person who is bipolar will have worsening symptoms of their illness if they are taking an anti-depressant like zoloft. Which could explain his anger. Your best bet would encourage him to talk to his folks about finding a doctor who specializes in pediatric bipolar disorder.

A patient should also NEVER stop taking a medication before consulting a doctor. Being medication complient and using the skills therpay teaches you is the best way to maintain a stable life.

Go to your local library and look for books regarding bipolar disorder to help educate both of you.

I wish you luck.

I am a 32 year old mom of a  15 year old with bipolar and I have read alot of books and websites to help educate myself. If you have any more questions please ask away.

Have you told your doctor about this? There are some meds that make you lose weight and some that make you gain weight. I sounds like you are underweight and might need you meds adjusted. They should not cause these side effects as hearing voices, seeing snakes crawling. These sound like hullcinations and could be dangerous. Do you have Bi-polar or Schizophrenia? Or a combination of both? I am just throwing out ideas. Hope you get to feeling better soon. I would be available if you need to talk to someone. HOPE YOU HAVE A HAPPY THANKSGIVING DAY!!!!!!!!!

I agree with Tammy about the Zoloft. It usually will cause bipolar people to cycle if they are only on antidepressants. They usually also give a mood stablizer with the antedepressant. You can find out a lot of info on the internent by just pulling up bipolar. Hope you find the info you are looking for.HAVE A HAPPY THANKSGIVI9NG!!!!!!!!! lindaw
