Unipolar and Bipolar

Quote From: 2happy2sad

Rest assured Cathy that there are people who struggle with bipolar that are reading the board and are ready to step in when someone has a question. You are right there is a big difference between the struggles of depression and the struggles with bipolar; that’s why two boards are established.  Possibly if you just let the board sit for awhile, without talking to yourself, the process will naturally unfold and people will post again.

Hey, how many of you first were diagnosed as having clinical depression and dealing with that side of bipolar for a long time before finding out that the manias should be dealt with too? I mean, who wants to stop a high until it gets way too far?

I'll take a little hypomania over feeling normal any day!!

I struggled with clinical depression for over 12 years before getting the diagnosis of bipolar.  And yes, my life came crashing way down, out of control, before I would admit there was a problem.  I still just want it all to go away.  Acceptance is sooooooo hard.

So are you advocating not taking meds?  LOL  I want to feel hypomanic EVERYDAY!!!!!!  :)

I'm not advocating not taking meds, but it sure is hard to get motivated to take something that will knock down a mania. I think when I start getting hypomanic, that I will just let it go, thinking I can always catch it if it gets too far gone. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't.

It ain't ever going to all go away, but with a little experience, there are times when you can have your cake and eat it too.

Hmmmmmmm

Hypomanic is who I am.  Maybe that's why the acceptance of medication is so difficult.

I wouldn't even mind the meds if there wasn't all the darn side effects.  Is there ever a happy balance that's chemically altered?  I haven't found it.  But to be fair, I guess I'm getting closer.

Do you usually notice things starting to go too far or is it your loved ones?  I've gotten so I'm not even sure how others see me.  Everything tends to be a big blur.

Can I have ice cream with my cake?  LOL

My daughter was diagnosed major depressive disorder first and prescribed ZOLOFT.... o man!! is all I can say.

That threw her into major mania. However at that time I wasn't educated in bipolar in chidlren. So it still took a while to find a doc that was.

I found out that mania in an adult can be VERY different from Mania in a child.  A child usually displays negative emoitions while in a manic phase. Violence, anger, outbursts, hypersexuality are common symptoms of mania in children.  Come to find out when my daughetr started thrashing on me and destroying her room etc. she was in an INDUCED manic phase brought on by the use of anti-depressants.

I would take "normal" over mania any day LOL

Just a mom's  opinion about childhood mania :))

Have a good day T.I.L (umm can you figure in out)

Hello Ted

Yes, I started out for the 1st 12 years being diagnosed as depression. I never knew that all of the weird things i would do from time to time was really mania.

Makes me a fun person to play with. I don't take any crud from peps anymore, for any reason.

Thought I would add my input.....

ByeBye
