Bipolar Disorder

Quote From: mommiebot

I don't think she'll be overdoing. She also has a fracture to her left femur and it hasn't even been pieced back together yet. The neck was done Fri. and the surgery on the leg is in a few days. She has a long uncertain road ahead.

Thank you for posting to me. BTW how is the mobility affected in the neck with fusing?I feel like such an idiot asking about what is probably so obvious.

Bless you,

Leslie

sounds like your friend has a long way ahead of her. The fusing makes the neck more stiff since. So the mobility of the neck is less but not bad. something one has to get use to. Hope your friend is feeling better soon.

Bipolar Disorder

Quote From: rhondapat

Hi Blaze,

Yup, I hate those big words too.  So, once you get the report you can look up the definition of each one and put it in layman's terms.

What I do is go to Google.com.      Then type....    define:  stenosis  (example).     Then just definitions come up and far easier to understand...then search the web for scholarly articles on the diagnosis.  You can refine your search in Google for that as well.    Someone showed me that one day and I said "I'll be ...."  Since then research etc., has become a breeze.

I don't know anything about this...I would be getting the "weird" names and do research and find out appropriate health treatments.  Then you can discuss the health concern with the doctors at a far better level.  When you understand...it does make things better.

Anything I can help you with...let me know...I'll help...I know how stressful these things can be.  Have a good day and I'm here for you.

Rhonda

your right. It helps to see them for ones self. Sometimes the doctors think we should know what they are talking about. But will do my own research. Hope you have a good day today.... Went fishing this weekend and out fished my husband. He never minds thought. He likes to see me have a good time. His doctor is suppose to call me this week when she reviews the hard copies of the cat scan..

Bipolar in public

Quote From: ucimhappy

Your so correct!  We need the message out there loud and clear.  we need our society to understand and not fear us.  We need more information out to the public. ALL the issues we face need to be aired.  More positive than negative stories told.  Not just the shame and guilt stories we all have.  It is not the total picture and does not help our cause or situation.

ucimhappy (yes, that is my handle.  I try!)

Hi,

This is my first time on a message board.  It is great to see others dealing with BP.  I agree with the need for positive stories.  It would help with the low times.  I think I am in a normal time now, if that can be real.  I have this severe fear of being a burden and withdraw with others, even with my therapist.

If I am on the wrong subject area, please let me know.   I am hopeful for replies from other understanding people.

Thanks.

Hi Rhonda! Sorry you are having trouble

Quote From: rhondapat

I know you had the lamicital rash.  Can you describe it?  Looks like, feels like, what parts of body it covers?  And any other tidbit of info.

I have a rash...but is it the lamicital rash or windburn.  Right now it is confined to face/neck/very upper part of chest...where it gets exposed.  No place else.  It's not bumpy either.

Please let me know...they took me off for three days and then will start back up at a lower dose

Thanks

Rhonda

If “they” have seen you, I guess you should follow directions and trust that you are in good hands.

But just for information --my rash came on suddenly after being on 25 mg x2 daily Lamictal 20 days. Started out with bumps on the face, mostly cheeks and chin. Very red, like a bad sun burn. Almost blistered in less than 24 hours and really hurt. I went off immediately and never went back on. I guess I was lucky not to get Stevens-Johnsons Syndrome which can be fatal

I’m on Tegretol and Seroquel now (since 03/02/06) and doing well. Hope your rash problems work out.

bipolar all the time

I am a 40 yr old woman with Bipolar, post traumatic stress, severe anxiety disorder and insomnia.

I am taking the new drug abilify- with no help. I have been hospitalized 4 times in the last 3 years!

I also take 200mg seconal for bedtime and 1oo mg for during the day.

I do not understand why we have all these treatment centers for addictions and none for mental health - except for state hospitals who just throw you away.

Personally I think if i was addicted to something I could get help for myself, and they wouldn't let me leave until they were sure I was on the right track.

This is not so with a mental disease.  Addiction they chose themselves and mental health we did not!

Dr. Phil- I feel we need more advocates. And you being a psychologist should also be on the same track.

I did not know that you have bipolar also!  That would have been awfully useful info!  So, what's going on with you?  I hope all is o.k.?

Sometimes this illness plays trick with your head and keeps you from doing what is best for you.  Your fear of being a burden is probably one of those ways.  Well, I think that Dr. Phil should go back to the subject of bipolar and bring someone on the show who is succeeding with their treatment and has a relatively normal life.  We can use our illness to our advantage!

Smile!

Hi Sunshine

I think you are right about Dr. Phil needs some success stories.

Thanks for replying.  I realize now the feeling of being a burden problem is from rejection and abuse from my mother, as a child.  Mike said in our last session I need to read:  "The present is not the past and I was a child - now I am a lady."  I was glad he knew I was not there yet.  He may not like it when I tell me I had to bury those emotions to continue my job search.  I feel a weight lifted with finishing my resume.  I hope the staying up past midnight is not my manic side.  Have others talked about poor eating with Lamictal and Zoloft.   Sorry for jumping thoughts.

Thanks Blue

I think my pdoc is educating my primary doc.  Anyways consensus seems that it was not that rash but more than likely sun/wind burn

Glad you are doing well.
