Bipolar Disorder

Quote From: mothermoon

I should be on right now ....seroquel, Lamictal, and trazodone(as needed)

but right now I am on just lamictal, and Atavan & Klonopin as needed.

Yes I am getting a new doc he is leaving the practice where he is at now so ill be searching next month.

only problem is the next Med we can try will prolly be lithium or something like it...I cannot take things like paxil or celexcia..those meds make me manic ...

well see how it goes

thanks

I was on Lamictal for about a year but then all of a sudden I had a bad reaction to it.  My doc mentioned Lithium as a next step for me but I was hesitant; so he went with Abilify instead.  Antidepressants throw me into a manic/rapid cycling state as well.  I'm just now trying to add one again, Lexopro, because I've been so depressed.  My pdoc says that since I've been on Abilify for awhile I might be able to tolerate the antidepressant.  So far so good.

It all gets exhausting.   How are you doing today?

Educating yourself is your best tool. My daughter has bipolar and I have educated myself on the illness, treatments, medications, etc.

I hope you find one or more of these helpful.

Hello

Yes, I started the class 2 days ago. She told our class that she used to teach high school. So she's fudging or something. Either way, I was a good girl and didn't give her any problem.

We have a small class of 12, so I think she is happy with our group. We make her laugh and keep her on her toes.

She liked the 1st page of my rough draft for a descriptive narrative story, so I can't give her too much crap. So far so good.

Ok, I gotta get a ham started for dinner tonight.

Later,     Jen

glad to hear you were a good girl.LOL  Its good to your class is not to big and you can get her at least laughing.Wish you much success in your studies take care.Ham sounds good!!! cathy

Good morning!  Tammy posted this a little while back: :o)

Types of Bipolar Disorder
Patterns and severity of symptoms, or episodes, of highs and lows, determine different types of bipolar disorder.

Bipolar I disorder is characterized by one or more manic episodes or mixed episodes (symptoms of both a mania and a depression occurring nearly every day for at least 1 week) and one or more major depressive episodes. Bipolar I disorder is the most severe form of the illness marked by extreme manic episodes.

Bipolar II disorder is characterized by one or more depressive episodes accompanied by at least one hypomanic episode. Hypomanic episodes have symptoms similar to manic episodes but are less severe, but must be clearly different from a person’s non-depressed mood. For some, hypomanic episodes are not severe enough to cause notable problems in social activities or work. However, for others, they can be troublesome.

Bipolar II disorder may be misdiagnosed as depression if you and your doctor don’t notice the signs of hypomania. In a recent DBSA survey, nearly seven out of ten people with bipolar disorder had been misdiagnosed at least once. Sixty percent of those people had been diagnosed with depression.

I am doing well. Thank you.

I just dont think that the lamictal is doing anything for me or has in the past.  So far I am managing well without the full dose or anything else to help. I wasnt diagonsed till I was 29 yrs old  and was never medicated. I have already gone through so many meds. Ill get there eventually. Hopefuly when I get a new doc things will improve.

I think that my best friend and her class last month just had the unfortunate luck of having this teacher in her 1st month. For our class, I think she has taken some of what she learned last month and tweaked her method of delivery.

I was griping about her last month, and yet when others gripe, I defend her. (Give her a chance), go figure, LOL.

The ham was yummy. The beans and ham will be even yummier. (navy beans)

I know that my olfactory (sp?) glands will suffer. I bought him "Beano" but he said it just blew his stomach up and made him feel really full. But the little pills worked! As he tells it, he won't take them again, but if I have my way he will. (UGH)....LOL

Oh well, life gones on...............and so does my workload.

thanks tammy

thank you tammy for the information of the books and authors you gave me to better educate myself with bipolor disorder.  My sister is going thru denial right now even though she has been diagnosed. I have done some reading up on the disorder on websites from the computer and every discription fits her to a T for having phase 1 type. Her life has been turned upside down and so has her husbands and children . She has temporarly lost her job and was ordered to go to seek help( it was a blessing)  We had a hell of a time cutting thru all the red tape with the privacy laws!!! She has been hospitalized now for 9 days, seems so inhumane. I know its for the best for her, so i will try and support every way i can to help her lead a more normal life. Its been so long since she has been happy, i hope and pray she can find her way!  thxs for the ear.    patty

My daughter has been in the hospital since monday so I know how you feel. But you have to remember they are in a safe place where they cannot hurt themselves or others.

I hope she accepts the bipolar and can learn some coping skills.

When Emily had a hard time with the diagnosis I looked up celebrities with bipolar. Just do a webs search. THen you can see how many brilliant and successful people have bipolar.

Hope that helps a little
