living with Bi-Polar Disorder

I have lived with BiPolar Disorder for 7 yrs. I take several Medications daily and they help alot. I know what that one person was talking about how you feel better once your medications are in ur system. If I have forgotten my medications for a day or so my mind is so fuzzy and my emotions are all over the place. I have been taking my medications now daily without interruptions. I hate when people in my family say oh no she is getting sick mentally if Im in a bad mood or a little depressed one day. I feel so over medicated sometimes. What do others think I take the following meds: Depokate 4tabs 500mg each daily. 1 Tablet of Zoloft daily, 3 tablets of seroquel daily??? they all  keep  me very stable. I hate taking them cuz it seems like im always tired. Is that from the medication or something else? I don't know. Thanks for letting me post. Brandi.

Like Dr. Phil would ask:  How's that working for you?  In my opinion your going to need the help with medication and talk therapy.  God created the docs and medicians that help us.  Prayer and God can help you cope along the way, but studies reflect that medication is a primary tool.

I have to agree with Faith's response. Studies have shown that prayer and faith can do amazing things and in the case of mental illness when used in accordance with therapy and meds. The results could be very good indeed. I know for some the thought of meds and taking them for life is a very not fun thing for them. My question is that if you had diabetes would you pray only or pray and add insulin. I would the same questions for heart disease, or any other illness that requires daily meds as a regiment to a healthier life. If there is another reason why meds and therapy are not being sought then perhaps that is what needs to be addressed more so.

I have to say that prayer and faith are a very strong thing. But we live in a time where sometimes other things are needed. Like meds. I have strong faith and still deal with deep depression and bi polar does that make me not have a relationship with God no. LIke the bible says that sometimes a physican is needed for medical problems. apostle luke was a physican and yet a apostle so even they believed in medicine at times. Just my thoughts on it. Hope your hubby stays strong.

The depokate can make you tired. Have you tired to get something else. Tell your doc that your tired all the time. you dont want to be a zombie. Alot of these drugs will do that to you. and the seroquel will make you very tired. I was taking 2 at bed time and it set me down and i cant imagine taking the depokate too... Talk with your doc asap...

Bipolar Disorder

Quote From: mustbecrazy

I am a bipolar parent, so you should ask my kids...LOL  I think my dad was bipolar, based on symptoms, but he was never diagnosed...he lived in the generation where "shrinks" are just a hoax, or just for extremely "insane" people who "don't belong out in society".

You didn't mention your age, or whether you are living with your parents, or whether you are an adult dealing with bipolar parents.  At any rate, I hope that they are taking meds...it makes living with them MUCH easier.

Please let us know what your individual situation is, and we'll try to give you some pointers...from one who has lived it...Becky

I am a bi polar parent too. And its hard on the kids I know. My adoptive parents have given up on me. Said it was all in my head and said they wish they never would of adopted me. They dont talke to me anymore since they think i am making it all up. What a hoot. I wish i was making it up. I have lived with it for over sixteen years. and its daily torment. I look on my journels and all I want to do is die. It would make the suffering go away.

my kids atleast has a dad that cares about them. and so do I just get very stressed. anyway. hope things work out.  Alexis
