Have you ever wanted to talk to your doctor about pressing medical concerns, but were too afraid to speak up? Today, four physicians with four different specialties return to bust medical myths and teach you things you never knew about your body. First up, 45-year-old Pamela has a paralyzing fear of physicians. She was diagnosed with a terminal lung disease six years ago and hasn't set foot in a doctor's office since. Find out what happens when Dr. Phil creates a makeshift exam room backstage! Then, Denise and her husband, Steve, have been trying to get pregnant for three years. Steve says he’s tired of sex being a business deal, but Denise desperately wants a baby. Should she keep trying to conceive or just move on with her life? And, having four kids wreaked havoc on Casey's body, and now she wants cosmetic surgery. Her husband, Jonathan, says a tummy tuck is too expensive, and thinks Casey can get in shape by doing more sit-ups. See Dr. Phil’s surprise for her! Plus, a couple who say their 9- and 15-year-old sons are still not potty trained! Tell us what you think!

Find out what happened on the show.

07/11 What’s Up, Doc?

Please tell the couple who are trying so hard to have a baby they need to relax, quit thinking about getting pregnant, and enjoy themselves.

When we were first married 48 years ago, we wanted to have children right away and since it didn't happen immediately, we began to stress about it and do whatever the medical community knew to do back in those days.  It did indeed sort of become a job.  We lived on a farm.  One of the ewes had twin lambs and wouldn't "own" one.  I began feeding it with a bottle, which had to be done on a regular schedule day and night.  Getting pregnant kind of went to the bottom of the list, as this sweet fluffy little orphan was depending on me for it's life.     The lamb gradually began to thrive and one morning as I was bending over to feed it, I noticed I was very nauseated.   This continued to get worse and lo and behold I found out I was pregnant.  My husband thinks feeding the lamb brought  out my maternal instinct.  I think just forgetting about trying so hard was what did the trick.  PS  The lamb lived on to have lambs of it's own.

I think most everyone has or has heard a similar story.  The inability to have children may very well be a medical issue.  The woman on the show has had 3 miscarriages, and has been trying for 3 years. I dont really think the doctor on the show has either enough experience or enough medical history information to diagnose this couple's issue as "behavioral".

I myself have been trying for over four years with no success. I find it a bit annoying when people tell me to "just relax".  IMHO, that's insulting.

Dr Phil - everyone accepted that the mother of four couldn't "behave her way" out of the flabby tummy... Why is everyone so quick to flippantly believe that this woman can "relax her way" out of infertility issues?

You are the one with this issues. Unless you have research, interviewed doctors, gone through this yourself and/or with your kids, keep your opinions to yourself. Do you see how many people are putting up posting and are asking for help for their kids? Obviously this isn't an issue of just not going to the bathroom. It doesn't help these familys obtain the information and support that they need when ignorant people like you are using this valuable space for your IGNORANT opinions. I feel badly for you. I hope someday that you can be an openminded and understanding person.
I agree this is sad that grown adults would talk like this about children. This is the kind of comments you would expect from children, then again I always said that kids are cruel to other kids because of how they are raised. This just proves my point.....................

Telling the woman who is trying to have another baby to "just relax" is wrong. Dr. Masterson should know better than that. It's a lot more complicated than just relaxing, which doesn't work either. I was given this advice and tried relaxing, but 6 IUIs, 4 IVFs and 3 yrs laters I'm still not pregnant (started trying at 33yrs old). That woman and her husband should either look into adoption or find a donor egg. It gives other women who are watching this show false hope if they too are in the same situation and think that relaxing with solve the problem. I speak from experience.
THANK YOU SO MUCH for this reply!  I too agree that the doctor really had no idea what she was talking about.  Dr. Masterson did mention that she had looked at the patient's files-if she had really looked at them closely she would have realized that a woman who has had one pre-mature birth, multiple miscarriages, IUI's and one round of in-vitro, all failing, has something definitely wrong with her.  My husband and I have been dealing with infertility for 4 years.  We tried ovulation predictor kits, 3 IUI's, and 2 rounds of in-vitro.  We are now actually pursuing donor eggs since the problem is with my eggs and tubes.  That problem WOULD NOT go away if I JUST RELAXED!  It frustrates me so much when people who have no idea what infertile couples are dealing with give this advice.  It only upsets us more because we constantly worry that we are not relaxing enough.  The info. that the doctor gave really does give false hope to women who truly have something wrong with them.  If "just relaxing"doesn't work within a year, it really is time to go see a specialist.

My son has this disorder and it did not come to light until he was 6, he was potty trained and it went normal until then.  It is not as severe as the boys on the show, he has pretty good control of it at 10 but the symptoms are still there.  I have taken my son to the best childrens hospitals and phycatrists to help him get through this.

I can assure you, my children have never been abused and are very happy children.

If a child has has cancer or diabetes does that mean they were abused?  This problem is a medical condition.

my son also had the same problem and he is now 18 and doesn't have any problems as far as I know. When he was 7 the doctor suggested an over the counter medication called COLACE. I would suggest trying it. It worked well for my son.

They need Dr. Phil's help?

Quote From: biguns01

What in the world is wrong with these parents? I doubt that it is a coincidence that BOTH of their kids poop their pants daily. They said they control it at school, so whats the difference at home? I think the parents just never finnished the job of potty training. Dr Phil needs to figure out what the heck is wrong with the parents before they even start to work on the kids!!!!!! WRONG WRONG WRONG
Did you not even listen to the segment or did you just watch the pictures. The doctor daid that this is a MEDICAL CONDITION!!!!  Any child or adult that had been potty trained can revert back. To all out there: THIS IS NOT A POTTY TRAINING ISSUE!!! It has to do with the programming of the brain and how it reacts to outside stimulus (stress) and how it reacts to inside pain receptors. I wish that the people that are putting rude and ignorant postings would just get off of their computers and go to the library or their local doctors office and research this subject instead of being unsupportive of everyone who is looking for answers. The kids or adults suffering from this need our support NOW more than ever so that they can grow up with healthy self-esteem and be a productive part of society just like everyone else. Let's help these kids no matter how "stinky" of a situation it is.

I cant believe this

Since my ten year old was about three years old we have been going through these same exact issues.  I am sitting here with tears running down my face because I thought I had done something wrong and it is so nice to see that we are not alone with this problem.  I have also done everything from rewarding her for not having accidents to punishing her when she does have accidents.  We can never find any panties for her because she has become so ashamed or afraid of getting in trouble that she is hiding them all over the house.  As we speak I am calling her doctor to make an appointment to see if there may be something that can help with this.  I have already tried the laxative thing and the stool softeners and adding extra fiber to her diet but nothing has seemed to work for her.  Thank you to everyone who has posted about their own children having this issue and thank you to Dr. Phil for bringing it up.

Boys with Encopresis

I was disturbed to hear the boys talk about encopresis and their family's lack of knowledge and reaction to it.   My son has the same condition, which started when he was a year old.  I took him to several specialists as a toddler.  He is now 13 and on a maintainance program.  My family doctor and I tried different medications until we found what works.  I think this is something many families go through, but are afraid or embarrassed to talk about.  Thank you Dr. Phil!

Ouch.

I feel terrible because I am 32 years old and have only one child, I go to the gym 5-6 times a week and I have the same stomach as the woman on the show today.  When the doctor said that this is not something that goes away with diet and exercise, I was truly disheartened because who can afford a tummy tuck???

People Just Don't Understand

The couple that have the two boys that have the problem with going to the bathroom are needing real help.  It has taken me quite some time to get my 7 year old to quit having accidents because it hurt when he would go poop.  I would catch him sitting in a position so that it would stop him from having to go.  These boys need real help and don't need to be put down for something that alot of kids suffer from.

What man or woman wouldn't just love to have cosmetic surgery to help them feel better about themselves.  I have only given birth to 2 kids, but my body is nowhere to where it should be.  Are there doctors out there that are willing to help all of us afford that kind of surgery?

Are you kidding me? The one kid crapped on the floor and left it!! That is not medical. If these kids had to clean up their own mess I bet it would CEASE! ! Quit making excuses. Some people may have a medical problem that interferes with normal bowel habits. That is OBVIOUSLY not  the case here. They can control it at school. It is a habit! Quit trying to act so superior by calling everyone ignorant. It is getting old!!!!!!!!!
