my pain -- and i have a new appreciation for that stupid one to ten game -- stays at a nine.  for example, much as i want to write more, i can't,

Good Morning Everyone!!

Wow, just wondering were the week went?? And saying the same thing about the summer...

Prof... I won't get all mushy with ya, but made my day to see you. I read your post and then had to run out and move the water and all I kept thinking was "a damm sandwich, hell, should have been surf and turf"... I think you should have held out on this one!!!  And this fall was not your first rodeo.. Oh... okay, what did all the x-rays Show????????

Dear Jmill.. Thinking of you.. it's Friday, so know we will not hear from you during the weekend.. So, how are you doing??? Are your nerves back in your skin yet?? How long did they say it could be for an answer from the Judge?? Sending my girl a special "hug".........

Okay.. having my second cup of coffee with all of you and can tell it's going to be a hot one today already. The only thing good about today for the folks working outside is that the wind is blowing..

Back to not going to bed during the night, oh, have to wait until Morning to think it's time for bed.. ugggg.... And it effects my mood... Not the nicest person to be around.. One thing I have noticed with the switch in Pain Meds is that my PMS is way bad and I am way touchy even before.. I do not like this "mood".. Poor hubby is getting the butt-end of it ... poor guy... and it's like if I could just Shut my Mouth..

Pain is there, but last few days, just taking my "extra" and seems to be keeping things at a even level... ( extra is my other for break-threw) not mixing my own cocktail!!)

Okay, have to get out in the yard, before it's too hot...

So, will be back to play with you all later when I am grounded from outside.. ha ha ha

Loves... Dianah

dear dianah --

they did find a new fracture but they said that the pins have not budged.  i invite them to try living with a fractured hip on top of  pins.

my internist, the compassionate, empathetic, but best of all on top of his game -- read through the lines and is setting me up for a bone scan, a CT scan.  we both want an MRI -- but that can't be done with hardware in there.  they'd have to take the pins out!

as i told maggie -- the pain is unbelievable.  so don't worry about moi!  hey -- our cat is in the cat hospital and we hope we can brind him home tomorrow -- now that is something to worry about.

be well!  and don't fall off the x-ray table...

smooches galore,

Sat Check In...

Hi Everyone..

Just taking a break and decided that it was too hot to be outside anymore .. So, could be doing the dishes or laying on the couch... but, had to do my check in and checking around on all of you..........

Okay.. I am back, have not had my glasses on all day because I am sweating too much, but, Now I need them... Already hit a 100 and it's just noon, so my guess is it will go higher before the day is over...

Killed my wrist today.. uggg.. I thought I was pushing it and sure enough... did it!!!

Dear Shandee.. Am so glad your daughter is home and I am sure she is also.. Wow, this stuff going around is not good.. Here, seems to be a lot of tummy problems and strep also... It's so hard to tell with us "chronics" if it's something going around or if it if just us.. But, glad to see you and hope you are trying to stay cool.... hugs...

I hope the weekend is being good to all and of course, we don't OVER DO IT... Seems the weekends can be so hard on all of us... HA, I'll tell ya what kills me is those 7 days off that the hubby has once a month... It has to been a Man who thought this one up... heeeeeee ha ha ha...

A nap is sure calling me..  BUT, have to get hubby's dinner and lunch packed up first.. ugggg......

Sending all a hug and all my love... Dianah

Good Afternoon Prof..

When they do a bone scan, do you get a shot of something and wait and hour and then go back??

I did not know you can not get a MRI if you have hardware.. Wow.

Okay, what is the diff between a bone scan and a CT scan???

What is up with the cat?? That is your lap buddy and your entertainment, and the boss of the house.. Things must feel very lonely with him not there..

At 11 last night I had my head out the small bathroom window screaming at my cat to quit fighting.. I bet the neighbors thought there was some action going on at our house....

Again, glad you are back.. Missed you a lot.. All my love.. Dianah

a good afternoon back acha, dianah.

there is a controversy about the need for MRI and it being the gold standard for avn/on but no one wants to be the lab rat.  in my case, we will be looking at a bionic hip placed next to a pinned one.  they can get "hot"  -- and that don't sound good!

as far as i understand it, the bone scan consists of an injection of a radioactive agent -- and that ain't good, neither! -- just an injection -- and, yep, you show up when the loverly stuff has coursed through your veins and then they take pictures (little dots) of where the radioactive bone matter has  axccumulated.  the problem with this test - - and the reason why i don't generally have one if i can help it -- is that it is highly general.  all it says is:  there sure is alot of bone resorption in these areas -- shouldn't we do another expensive test to be more accurate? -- hmmm?

the CT scan is great for soft  tissue and masses 'n all but  not too hot for nailing down bone issues.

it is the MRI that is perfect for avascular necrosis because it catches problems early and is meticulous enough to find bone necrosis in the beginning of the disease.

what a cheerful post!

sammy is in the hospital for one more night and (those of you with children will kindly refrain from tiittering) and frankie-boy has gone to "visit" him.

i hope that the couch is comfy and the rooms full of a good breeze.  we've decided that we would rather go cold than suffer from this heat.  if anyone would like to contribute to the fund....

Hiya Prof,

Yep I've had a bone scan where they injected me with something and then I had to go back a couple hours later and have it done. You're quite correct - there were a lot of white spots on mine showing where all the oesteo was. That's also how they picked up I should go for a mammogram!! Don't know how cause I certainly couldn't see anyhting there, but I could see it in my shulders, elbows hands, knees and ankles. They will always try to make you go for the expensive test - to me it's a money making racket.

Sorry had to titter about sammy and frankie-boy going to visit. If you're anything like me my little baby dogs are just like babies and we worry about them. When it's very cold here we even leave the heater on in the kitchen for them to keep warm at night.

I'm so sorry that you're in so much pain - but odn't you find that the cold weather affects you more than the heat? I'd trade places anytime with you - give me the heat (although I can't take it - it affects me badly with migraines) but this cold weather - yugh! Still fighting this bronchitis from the 14 July, thankfully the dr gave me some pills for the gastro and that seems to have eased off a bit.

Slept in the lounge last night and boy was I freezing. Couldn't take the hubby's snoring anymore. All my pills are finished and I can't get till the 9th so there's no sleep for me. It's a terrible thing this insomnia and just don't know how to get around it. Suffered from it all my life. The couch was so hard and I lay on my bad shoulder so am paying for that now - will have to bring out the bean bag again and sit with that on while I watch the Grand Prix tonight.

You have a good sleep and here's hoping the pain eases of a bit for you.

Soft hugs

Pickles

Living with Chronic Pain

Happy Monday Morning To Everyone!!

By the time I finish this post it should be close to midnight.I was reading the posts from back a month or so because I am still putting names with the user names. It made my night to raed all the support and kindness from all you gals!

Hello Andrea! I'm sorry that it has taken me so long to respond to your letter. With my daughter being sick and in the hospital my mind and body got so worn out. But I am back to normal now.

I was born and raised in Minnetonka, Minnesota. That was such a great place to live! My brothers had asthma really bad and years ago the docs suggested people with respiratory issues move to good ol Arizona. So here I am now living in a HUGE oven! I tell my family back in Minnesota that we live in the wild wild west.Where in Minnesota do you live?

The surgeon fused my back at L5 S1, they used 2 screws and wired them together so the fracture can heal. I will always have this hardware inside of me. The last set of x rays showed the fracture is healing.

What are you taking currently for pain? I had trouble also with some narcotics, like Vicodin makes me so sick I can't stop vomitting and I also get a terrible rash all over my body from it. I also can't take any NSAIDS with my stomach being very sensitive to them.

I have gone to this one PT office for over 18 years and they are great! They do a lot of hands on with whatever part of your body thats in pain.

I haven't worked in over a year, getting closer to two years. I started my own home based business working with seniors doing senior placement in residential homes. I actually love my job when I was working and I want to get back to working soon I hope.

I understand when you said your not the same person, I  used to be very active and on the go all the time. Now I can stay home for 4-5 days and it doesn't even bother me.

How is your pain now? Did your surgery help? I have a lot of muscle spasms along with the right leg nerve pain (Sciatica I think it's called)

I hope we can chat some more since we seem to have a lot in common,

I hope everyone had a nice weekend and your pain is being somewhat controlled...........................

Hugs To All!!!!

Shandee.

My new wife has this too

Quote From: kkay8871

Hello,

I too suffer from chronic pain, due to Degenerative Disc Disease. I have had 4 surgeries directly related to this, and 6 surgeries for various other problems, though none were elective. I know I need another operation on my neck, which would be the 3rd there, because the fingers in my left hand are going numb.

I was diagnosed with Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis when I was 15 yrs old, and went through 2 1/2yrs of pain, which included getting weekly shots of Gold Salt Injections, and weekly blood & urine tests. That in itself was pain enough, but I also had to sell my horse which I'd only had for about 3 months (a childhood dream, unable to come true til then due to moving every 3 or so years as we were a military family), was in the hospital 6 times one summer, and had to travel by helicopter to Keesler Air Force Base by myself for a week of testing.

Now as an adult I've had a total of 10 operations in the last 15yrs, and believe me there's nothing I'd like better than to be free from all this pain. I'm on a prescription plan which includes Methadone, Lortabs, and various other pills, just to maintain the pain, but it doesn't really go away, does it?!  I've applied for disability, as I'm a single parent, and haven't been able to work since last October, therefore I have no insurance for myself. I was denied the first time by the people who decide whether or not you're able to work, so I've retained an attorney to file an appeal, which takes anywhere from 12 to 14 months!!  I now have maybe 8 months to go before the appeal. I now have been diagnosed with major depression and generalized anxiety disorder, thanks to all the red tape. I am blessed enough to have a mother and an ex-husband who are helping to pay our rent and untility bills, (my mother is using her retirement savings which makes me feel guilty as hell), and we at least qualified for food stamps.  What on earth do people do if they have no one to help them?  I firmly believe that's where a lot of our homeless people come from, waiting on our government to help them.

I've lost 2 jobs, and a 2yr scholarship, so believe me when I say I DO understand your pain.  All we can do is what we are doing, which is just getting through one day at a time. And pray alot. One of my doctors said recently that God must be preparing me for something special.  I can believe and accept that, but I'd sure like to know WHEN?!!!  Seriously, I'd like to go back to school and major in psychology, because I believe I could help other women in going through times and circumstances like ours.

I'll remember you in my prayers,

 Karen

Hi,

I'm new here.  I registered a while back but I don't think I posted anything.  I recently got married.  She found out a month or so before we got married that she has degenerative spine desease.  She also has two buldging discs and two pinched nerves in her neck.  She is in enough pain that she just passes out from the pain.  She has got to the point that she can not hardly get out of bed.

I wrote to Dr. Phil to see if he had any advise on what to do to get her better.  I really don't think the Doctors understand how much pain she is in.  I feel helpless because I can't seem to do anything to make her better either.

I just want her to feel better.  Is that to much to ask for??

GOOD MORNING TO ALL!!!!!

Good morning all, I hope this finds everyone doing well. Welcome to all who are new here. I am so happy to see that Prof. is back, really missed you. Pickles, wish I could send you some of this heat we have. Ha Ha. It has been in the upper 90 to low 100 all month long here. Thats what happens when you live in southern Mississippi, you pay for it in the summer time.

Dianah, hey girl, the ankle is doing better and so is the foot. Wearing a brace on it when I am going to be up and working for long. It still swells pretty bad, could be worse though. I am trying to get ready to plant my garden again, but this heat is slowing me down. Since they cut the nerve in my chest, by accident, and gave me Horners Syndrome, being able to perspire on one side only, makes it hard for my body to cool down. Either I have to do it early in the morning or late in the afternoon. Wish we would get some rain. You know, the kind where it is a slow steady rain, all day and all night. Oh, to be curled up on the bed with a good book and hear the rain on the roof, the best way to fall asleep.

Well I hate to have to run, but the day is only going to get hotter. To all, I hope that you have a relief filled day. I am thinking of you all, and sending warm hugs. Love ya"ll,       Cheryl Lynn
