(Original Air Date: 09/18/07) Does it annoy you to no end when someone uses a cell phone at the dinner table or chews with his or her mouth open? Along with author Peggy Post, Dr. Phil tackles the dos and don’ts of etiquette. One issue making recent headlines is appropriate in-flight attire. Kyla was flying to Phoenix on Southwest Airlines when an employee informed her that her outfit was too skimpy. Kyla saw nothing wrong with the way she was dressed and was appalled when she was asked to cover up. Did the airline go overboard, or was Kyla too tantalizing for take-off? Then, Kate took her 19-month-old son on his first flight, but she was removed from the plane when he became too talkative. Was the airline out of line for telling Kate to shut her baby up? Peggy Post weighs in on this polarizing problem. And, Joan says she doesn’t have any peace at home because of all the noise her family makes – from loud chewing to clinking dinnerware. Her husband, Bob, says he and their three children have to walk on eggshells around Joan just to eat dinner. Is Joan overly sensitive, or does her family need to be reined in? Plus, meet a woman who says her husband’s bad manners didn’t disturb her until she had a baby, and a guest who nominated herself as having the worst etiquette in the country! Share your own etiquette peeves and join the discussion.

Kayla

Thank you, Dr. Phil, for standing up to that lawyer and this frivolous law suit.  Kayla is very immature and she only sees this as a way to get a lot of money. (Sadly, I'm sure mom pushed her to do this).  Believe me when I say that she has no interest in "enlightening" the world to the horrid ways of airlines, rather she is only showing her true face, and that is the ugly face of greed.  Karma is real and it will come back to get her.

Bye bye baby

When I heard that poor mom talking about how she was kicked off the plane, I was just upset. I have TWO small babies under the age of 3. I live in Western Canada and my mother in law lives in Florida. She sent us down to see her and we went with Continental. We dident have any problems with our flight. We were sitting in the back so that we dident bother anyone.

I think that the flight attendant on the flight that the mom and her baby were on must of been having a bad day. The flight attendant sould of asked for the baby to hush up and walk away. If the other flyers were having a problem, they should of asked to be moved to another seat. I know what its like to fly with a sick baby or a baby who just wants to talk. The flight attendant was in the wrong NOT the mom. The staff needs to know what its like to be on the other end of things. Being a mom on her own with a young child is very hard.

03/06 Etiquette Dilemmas

Quote From: yoshiyoshi

This is how the mom is behaving:

"WAAAAH! I got thrown off the airplane! WAAAH!! It's not fair! WAAAAH! Nobody tells mommy to quiet her baby down! WAAAH!!!"

Being an adult DOES NOT entitle you to behave and reason as if you are the age of your own small child. She couldn't afford a pacifier? She wants to go on TV and throw a temper tantrum cause someone finally told mommy what's what, and she could handle it cause most mothers like her these days, think they can temper tantrum their way out of everything. Then they wonder why their child thinks it will work for them.

I agree with you, and the airline workers. That mother should've gotten her kid to shut up before they had to intervene.
I didn't watch the show today. I watched when it was originally aired last September. But, I remember the incident quite well. The first time that kid said "airplane go bye-bye," many of them, tired of the delay, repeated it. I think a few even egged him on. But, after a while, he just wouldn't shut up. I suspect, for the flight attendant to intervene, someone must have complained to her. At any rate, even if someone was egging him on, his mother didn't have to allow it to escalate. Does she not know the words "be quiet!"?

I need to know are you a mom or a dad?  have you ever had a sick baby?? if not then you dont know what its like to fly with a small child. Its hard to have kids and fly. Trying to keep a small child confind to a seat and quite is the most hardest thing I have ever had to do. What are you going to do next time a overweight person sits next to you and their are is touching you ???

I would love to see you fly with a sick baby and we'll see who is a baby.

I feel like the lady sitting on stage was telling my story.  It makes me angry to hear smacking, chomping, gulping.  I also have been looking for the help info... let me know if you find it.  Thank you.

Your friend,

I know how you feel

i was so happy to know i was not the only  one w/ this problem when i saw the show. I disagree w/ Dr. Phil that it is stress related because i have always been this way, except there are many more noises that drive me CRAZY now than when i was little. It has gotten so bad that there have been times i have been in a waiting room or in line somewhere and someone is eating or chewing loud that i have just left. Everyone that knows i have this problem tells me i'm crazy or uptight and just to ignore it. This makes me mad because believe me i've tried and i'd love to if it WAS possible!! This is something that affects my life in so many different ways.

I would love to know if there were any ways to help w/ this. I also could not find anything on Dr. Phils site.

Someone garbbed my boy

A friend and I went on a trip to our local Wal-Mart and we took with us our boys.  At the check out we proceeded to cash out our items at the self check and Nate, my oldest, kept grabbing things from the isle, as children do.  I perodically stopped and correscted the problem.  This employee was watching from nearby.  Nate grabbed another item and this lady walked over grabbed him by his arms and forced him in the sitting position in the cart.  If that wasn't enough she leaned in and threatened him with a witchlike face.  HE WAS ONLY THREE!  SHe scared him to death.  I was shocked and completely in awe of what to do.  How do you deal with a situation like that without being confrontational and making a scene?  We didn't kow what to do, but we went to the customer service counter and told them the event, and they acted completely neutral, and calmly said they would talk to her.  I never checked on it again, but I felt very wierd, was I being irraltional, or is someone, esspecially and stranger, accpetable to do something like this?

03/06 Etiquette Dilemmas

I really don't understand what Dr. Phil doesn't understand about Kyla's situation. That the company, after countless appearances, finally decided to issue an apology and two flight tickets which Kyla would not utlize, is absolutely no reason for her to back down. The company humiliated her and treated her unfairly. She has spent countless hours trying to seek some justice, and she still deserves it.

They only said and did this to save face. Did Dr. Phil strike some sort of deal with this airline? Sure seemed like it.

Women who wear skirts so short they can't sit without showing their panties, if they're wearing any, humiliate themselves. So do women who pose for Playboy and other "Girlie" magazines. I've heard that Kyla has done both.

03/06 Etiquette Dilemmas

Quote From: shmigelz

Alot of people are already nerved up enough about flying, especially after so called 9/11 things are worse. Im Canadian and even boarding a flight to the US is a major pain and a joke in my opinion (AS IF my DAMN Crest toothpaste is a BOMB! Give me a brrrrrrrreak!) Im sure IF they wanted too, they could easily go from Planes to BIG Cargo ships, or Passenger Trains, etc, etc... So I dont appreciate throwing out my toothpaste, contact lens solution, refresher tears for contact lens, AND my DIET COKE!) Enough about that..

Kate should know better being a 'very young' mom maybe she's not mature or old enough yet to understand how kids are to behave in places such as airplanes, movie theatures, church, etc, etc....

If it bothers Kate maybe she shouldn't of got pregnant as a teenager? Where's the daddy or your husband to help? Or your married...

But if I was a paid passenger on that plane and some kid wouldn't shut-up, Id thank the flight stewardess for making the kid or throwing them off the plane.. Its a tight, small confined area, people are already on pins/needles for the simple sake of flying... Granted there is a tiny % that are used to it....and maybe dont mind..

Maybe Kate likes and feeds off the attention her annoying little kid brings upon herself. If she can dish it out and accept it, then she's also gotta take it too!

OR DONT FLY IF IT BOTHERS YOU!

I am a mom who is married and my husband does fly with me and our two small childern. Oh and I'm not a teen-aged mom. Its hard to fly with small kids who are wait I would like to quote you " its a tight, small confined area, people are already on pins/ needles for the simple sake if flying..." flying for the first time. Do you remember the first time that you were on a plane?? How old were you?? And if you were young how did your mom or dad deal with you? I would like to know. I fly from west Canada to Florida all the time and its not a walk in the park. I hope next time that I fly that you are not on my flight.

Face it, folks.  Modesty, Good Taste and Class are a thing of the past.  Witness Miss Blonde Plastic and her implants.  It's all about MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
You know what went through my mind when I read you post? Bratz dolls! In case one of their outfits is missing, Kyla has it. She wore it on the plane. And, is keeping it for her next press conference.
