(Original Air Date: 09/18/07) Does it annoy you to no end when someone uses a cell phone at the dinner table or chews with his or her mouth open? Along with author Peggy Post, Dr. Phil tackles the dos and don’ts of etiquette. One issue making recent headlines is appropriate in-flight attire. Kyla was flying to Phoenix on Southwest Airlines when an employee informed her that her outfit was too skimpy. Kyla saw nothing wrong with the way she was dressed and was appalled when she was asked to cover up. Did the airline go overboard, or was Kyla too tantalizing for take-off? Then, Kate took her 19-month-old son on his first flight, but she was removed from the plane when he became too talkative. Was the airline out of line for telling Kate to shut her baby up? Peggy Post weighs in on this polarizing problem. And, Joan says she doesn’t have any peace at home because of all the noise her family makes – from loud chewing to clinking dinnerware. Her husband, Bob, says he and their three children have to walk on eggshells around Joan just to eat dinner. Is Joan overly sensitive, or does her family need to be reined in? Plus, meet a woman who says her husband’s bad manners didn’t disturb her until she had a baby, and a guest who nominated herself as having the worst etiquette in the country! Share your own etiquette peeves and join the discussion.

03/06 Etiquette Dilemmas

Quote From: photo_man

Kyla, of risque dress notoriety, was taken off a Southwest Airlines flight because of the way she was dressed.  Threatening legal action, she said all she wanted was an apology.  The Dr. Phil Show put her on, and she got an apology from the airline, along with two free tickets to anywhere in the U.S.

According to her statement, that should have settled the matter.  But in one of the most flagrant acts of hypocrisy I have ever seen on television, she vowed to continue her lawsuit.  Of course, she had help from that shyster of a lawyer that appeared with her.  (I guess she needs money to pay that character.)

Her claim that she is doing it for all women is nothing but cant and hypocrisy.  She didn't even begin to pull off the acting job.  It was obvious she didn't care about anyone but herself and money.  She showed herself to be deceitful and a liar.

I believe the airline's apology was sincere.  They showed they are a class act.  Kyla's lack of class in front of the world will hurt her credibility for years to come, and maybe forever.

Shame on her for her hypocrisy!

That poor girl is not a hypocrite.  She was publicly humiliated.  Even after a considerable amount of press, Southwest still refused to apologize for the way she was treated by there staff let alone take action against those responsible for the discrimination.  It wasn't until Dr. Phil intervened was the airline willing to offer an apology. I can’t say if it was sincere or not because I do not know the mindset of its author.  However, I am hesitant to believe the apology considering how long it took the airline to respond.  To me it sounded more like a set up against the girl, which Southwest was eager to participate to further humiliate her.

I sincerely hope she sues this airline and I hope as a result ALL airlines develop a set of FINITE set of rules for flyers and employees.  I have endured and witnessed my fair share of flight attendants on a power trip!

Kyla, dress "modestly" & that won't happen....

I'm deeply embarrassed whenever someone dresses immodestly and it is rampant.  While I defend to the death their right to do as they wish, I also think we have a right to be "FREE" from it!

The Bible says to dress modestly and Kyla WAS NOT dressed modestly and that ends it for me.  (She couldn't even bend over without exposing her baby maker-God,please say she had panties on- and the straight-back bend means she is dressed as if she had a straight-jacket on.  COME ON, PEOPLE.)

Enough is enough.  My vote is with the original airline decision.  YOU BROUGH IT ON YOURSELF, KYLA.

Now I'm furious w/Kyla & her scumbag lawyer

It reached a point later in the show that I thought....you know what?....WE, the people who just may well make up the majority are SICK TO DEATH OF KYLA TYPES and that goes double-ditto for her stupid lawyer.

I am so sick and tired of scanky women I could scream (I've seen ALOT worse then Kyla by a long shot but that is not the point.)

It's all about people's "rights" to be bad and not about the rest of the country's right to "quiet covenant enjoyment" of our public places in OUR country (it's our country, too, dammit)....I want to be free of porno shots on TV, the internet, etc., I want to be free of immoral people prevailing without being mocked as "fundie", etc.

Gimme the good old days when MAINSTREAM America had a far higher standard.  You who agree with Kyla are just fanning the wrong flames.  We'll just get worse and worse.  Proof?  There will soon be "full frontal male nudity" on Desperate Housewives.  I refuse to be part of the problem.  How about you?

PS....I noticed her skirt was about a GOOD FIVE INCHES LONGER ON DR. PHIL, HELLO!!!

Fake Nails and typing

Okay, I am annoyed by women who type with fake or long fingernails, it is so annoying, distracting,

Don't they know it is noisy and irritating to others?   No one ever wants to discuss.  I think it is low class and egotistical.  I would like to know what others think.

Women who type with long fingernails are low class??? Do you have ANY idea how many people you have just targeted - myself included? That (and I realize what I'm saying) is the stuiped post I have read on here!

It would be fine if the noise bothered you; I could understand that (sort of like heels on tile or whatever) but to call us all low class and egotistical?! WOW! That came right out f left field!  And then to rammble on about how "nobody ever wants to talk about it"....OMG! Are you kidding me? You need to "GET REAL"!

Just love it when someone comes up with a Bible quote regarding a subject & then turns around with a "tacky, tastless"  remark  discribing a part of a female anatomy. Come on---"exposing her baby maker" and "God, please say she had panties on".  I think you could of got the message across using a better choice of wording.

Sorry Kyla, but-------

I feel SouthWest did you wrong from what I understand in listening to the show. If there is no standard dress regulations for the associates to follow and also not posted for the public, then so be it. There was no mention that Kyla was exposing herself to others. Now with that still in mind, Kyla get over it & get a life other than appearing on talk shows with money grubbing lawyers.   Yea, he really wants justice for you and the many others that follow, since you have been so hurt & humiliated. GIVE IT UP GIRL ! You have made your point!  You got what I heard read-----a sincere apology (I thought that was all you wanted). Yes, it should not have taken so long, but "get over it". Life goes on & does not always need to end up in court, using MY tax dollars for such a frivolous case. Kudo's to Dr. Phil when he basicaly  said "let it go & don't waste my tax dollars". Believe me your lawyer is not following you around unless there is big money in it for him. I could not help notice after Dr. Phil tried to pin you & your lawyer down about a law suit, you then gave the tickets back to Dr. Phil. It made me wonder if you felt by accepting the tickets it may damage your up coming suit? You are a beautiful lady, maybe you can get a modeling deal out of this!

Question for Joan

Quote From: hsmomof6

OK... my kids were simply demonstrating what sounds DO bother me. They are actually quite good about leaving my presence when I ask them to do so.   My husband is probably the worst offender in most situations and "I" certainly did not raise HIM.  Trust me when I say I do not "allow" sloppy eating (far from it) and I certainly don't tolerate disrespectful attitudes among any of my six children.  (Including my 3 steps who were not on the show). ;)  I can see why you may have thought that though.  Joan
Hi Joan, I totally understand the purpose of your kids demonstrating what sounds annoy you.   And people really don't necessarily have to have bad manners to annoy us in that way, do they?  I have a question for you, though.  Do you have any idea, thinking back over your life, when and what may have caused this to start happening?  Dr. Phil didn't ask you anything like that.  And I agree with others that it was definitely the shortest segment in the history of the Dr. Phil show.   He must not have thought it was as rampant as it apparently is, or as devastating to peoples' lives.   It has caused me to make  bad decisions in my life.  But to the question:   Was there any traumatic experience in your life (divorce, death, surgery) that may have caused this to start happening?  Do you remember a specific event when it did start happening?  I have the same thing, so I know exactly how you feel.  You told my story up on that stage, along with many others I can see now.  Just wondering...

Manners is missing the point

A lot of people seem to be missing the point, including Dr. Phil.  It's not a matter of what kind of manners a person has!!  Even the sound coming from a person's mouth while eating, regardless of whether their mouth is open or closed, is enough to drive people with this (whatever you call it!) crazy!  It's unrealistic to expect people to not make noise when they eat.  I make noise when I eat, I'm sure.  But for some reason, it drives me nuts and makes me enraged!  But the weird thing is, it doesn't happen with strangers.  I noticed a lot of people said they didn't like anyone doing it.  I don't have that problem, thank God.  I can only imagine how many more problems that would create in someone's life.  It's only with certain family members.  And I don't know why, like many others of you.  The first remembrance of this happening is when I was 12 and in the hospital for major back surgery.  Anybody else have a similar experience???
