(Original Air Date: 09/18/07) Does it annoy you to no end when someone uses a cell phone at the dinner table or chews with his or her mouth open? Along with author Peggy Post, Dr. Phil tackles the dos and don’ts of etiquette. One issue making recent headlines is appropriate in-flight attire. Kyla was flying to Phoenix on Southwest Airlines when an employee informed her that her outfit was too skimpy. Kyla saw nothing wrong with the way she was dressed and was appalled when she was asked to cover up. Did the airline go overboard, or was Kyla too tantalizing for take-off? Then, Kate took her 19-month-old son on his first flight, but she was removed from the plane when he became too talkative. Was the airline out of line for telling Kate to shut her baby up? Peggy Post weighs in on this polarizing problem. And, Joan says she doesn’t have any peace at home because of all the noise her family makes – from loud chewing to clinking dinnerware. Her husband, Bob, says he and their three children have to walk on eggshells around Joan just to eat dinner. Is Joan overly sensitive, or does her family need to be reined in? Plus, meet a woman who says her husband’s bad manners didn’t disturb her until she had a baby, and a guest who nominated herself as having the worst etiquette in the country! Share your own etiquette peeves and join the discussion.

Etiquette !!!!! Where

OMG Dr. Phil. What is the world just happened????????? I Was watching your show and couldn't believe what just happened. Your guest  is obviously out for the all mighty dollar. I hope that they throw out this ridicules case and give her a set of morales. She already stated that she wanted an apology from this airline and when she got it , it still wasn't enough. I can understand her anger but like you said. GET OVER IT. I would love to be in her shoes and get 2 airlines to give me free tickets, since I have never gotten anything free in my entire life. She will soon see that it will not be worth it in the long run.

Thank you for this opportunity

she is all about publicity and money

I cannot not believe what i just saw on the show.  Kayla was so being prompted by her lawyer.  Unbelieveable.  I did notice that when Dr. Phil asked her about if she got an apology from Southwest that she would drop the lawsuit.  Her answer was that she would stop doing the talk shows.  She never said that she would drop the lawsuit.  She is all about getting a cash settlement from Southwest not to mention all the publicity.  She acts all sweet and innocent.  She is all about getting attention and that is what the outfit was all about.  I hope Southwest has a good lawyer and shuts her up.  This is a waste of taxpayers money.

Short Skirt

I have seen this young lady on different shows with this outfit on that she wore on the airplane.  I feel that, that skirt was way to short to be wearing period.  As she was sitting down in the chair you can see her world because her skirt was to short.  I feel the airline had every right to ask her to cover up. Now enough is enough and she really just needs to move on with her life and put this behind her.

Irritating sounds (gum, chewing,crunching)

I have suffered from this since I was 10 ( over 36 years).  I think it is a legitimate condition. It is awful to have and I wish I didn't, but I think Dr. Phil dismissed this problem too readily.  It is terrible to live with = I'd give anything not to 'have it'.

Who decides those times and places and dress? You?

No not me did I say that??      Common sense says that ,but it's obvious some people lack it and that's why they need to be called out.

SWA chick

wow, that girl changed her tune real quick after her lawyer spoke--- before then, the 2 free tickets and apology were just fine. I love how Dr.Phil called her out on that!  Dr. Phil at his best :)

Kyla

Kyla, I am sure you are reading these boards today. You require attention to get through your life and your need of it is not going to stop on the Dr. Phil show.  You are going to milk this situation for everything you can get. Take the free airline tickets, take the attention you are receiving and the symapthy of those who feel you were wronged. Take the high road and show that you have made a change in the airline industry without filling your pockets with their money. If you cannot accept SW airline tickets, then don't go after their money either. I was on your side until you and your lawyer said you are open for a law suit.

I hope you lose.

09/18 Etiquette

Quote From: onoone02

I happen to see Kyla on the Today show with her mother and attorney. Matt interviewed her for several minutes in a close up shot. She was then asked to stand up and show the "outfit" she was wearing on that fateful day. The outfit was nice, the skirt in my opinion was a bit short, but what bothered me, was when she sat down, you could see her underwear; perhaps this was the situation on the plane. Was a family exposed to her exposure, and in trying to protect someone's innocence, did they complain?

Kyla said to begin with, she just wanted an apology...but now they are contemplating whether or not to file a lawsuit....is this another situation where a child being told "no" throws a tantrum and we are going to give into that "fit" ???? Our society has become a "I can do what I want no matter what"....laws are blatantly broken and another attorney makes more money and a name for themselves by defending a wrong doing. We need to start thinking others "rights"  as much as we think about our own...it may change society a little.

You are so right.  Sounds like Kyla is looking to make a buck on this.  Please.....she took the tickets Southest Airlines gave her with a smile....then....she decided she didn't want them.  Her attorney should be ashamed for even considering a lawsuit.  This is as Dr Phil said "a waste of taxpayers money".

Whenever I saw her on TV, I did change the channel, but I was able to hear on FOX news that she had a really hard time adjusting her skirt when she did stand up.

This whole story is ridiculous and so over.  Do I think what happened to her was right??  NO...but, she got the apology she was wanting, now girl you need to move on.

baby on board

I think that flight attendant should be fired just for this reason: she was unprofessional and jusdgemental, instead of recomending baby benadryl, she shouldve went out of her way to help that mother in need.I wouldnt fly on that airline either. What the airlines should do, is have a speical section of seats just for mothers and children if they dont like it, do something about it. IF they arent going to do anything to help the passenger make a more comfortable flight, than they should shut up, if it werent for us flying the freindly skies, theyd have alot of empty seats and no one to serve soda and peanuts to. Be curtious of others and grow up. The child doesnt know any better. The adult does.

What about..............

why it took soooooooooooooo long for the people of Southwest Airlines to issue Kyla an apology? I saw her earlier in the month when she was the on Today show, and that is all she was asking for then as well and did they bother to do anything about it??? NO!!!  It upsets me that Dr. Phil was stressing the point over and over that Kyla should be the better person and just accept the apology that was given by Southwest Airlines ,and drop any thought of a lawsuit, but for an individual to be the better person from the beginning and simply ask for an apology from a company who she had been a loyal customer, for what alot of people in this country, including myself, thought was unfair treatment, over and over again and yet was basically ignored or pushed aside, that would be the point that would be made by a lawsuit. I'm tired of customer services for alot of business just basically wanting to get you through the door or (off the phone) and transfered to someone who has no desire of helping the situation as the first 5 people that you talked to reguarding an issue. I would have been interested in hearing why Southwest Airlines waited until now to issue an apology. Southwest needs to write her a check anyways because everybody knows even negative publicity is publicity!!!  This whole issue was brought to everyone's attention because Kyla asked for an APOLOGY not because we had read that she had already filed a lawsuit.
