Since Britney Spears and Kevin Federline split, the pop star's troubles have played out in the tabloids -- photographs at Hollywood hotspots with Paris Hilton, partying without panties, impulsively shaving her head, raging at a car with an umbrella, and spending a month in rehab.  Last month, the judge ordered the pop star to undergo random drug and alcohol testing twice a week as part of her ongoing custody battle with Federline.  Then what was supposed to be a comeback MTV Video Music Awards performance made Britney the butt of endless jokes, and the following week, her management firm dropped her and her divorce attorney resigned.  And on Monday, Britney hit rock bottom when she was ordered to temporarily relinquish physical custody of her children to Federline by a judge who had cited a troubling lifestyle fueled by drugs and alcohol.  Could Britney be at risk for suicide?  Plus, Dr. Phil will share insight into the Britney story from the inside. And, Spears’ former bodyguard who says he spoke out to protect her children, will tell Dr. Phil what led him to go public. If it's happening now, Dr. Phil is going to talk about it now! Share your thoughts, join the discussion.

Find out what happened on the show.

Leave Brittany alone

I think that the more people try to help the more they hurt her.  The people whom she thought she could trust most are selling her life for six figures.  The bodyguard is soooo concerned. Yeah right. Six figures worth of concern.  Kevin is sooo concerned. Yeah right. Six figures worth.  I think that Brit loves her kids and she is being judged harshly by everyone; including some of the message board writers.  I agree that she needs help.  Imagine your life for a minute in her shows. What we take for granted, she cannot enjoy. Just going to the grocery store, etc.  I'm sure that life is fun for a while and maybe one hour a day, but that crap has to get old; especially when you want to be a good mom. We all forget that we are all human. Instead of laughing at her and namecalling, I think that everyone should back off and let her have some peace.  The magazine reps claim to want brit to make a successful comeback but are not willing to leave her alone. I think that that is sooo sad.  Brit just needs to figure out who is truly in her corner; sometimes it's not always your family and sometimes it is. She has hit rock bottom so whomever is standing with her now i'm sure is there for the long haul and these are the people that she needs to support her.  Good Luck brit.

Excellent point!

Quote From: toona1010

I watched the show and the whole time Dr. Phil was saying the things Brittany needed to do in order to get the kids back- I was thinkng maybe she was relieved. Maybe she knows that on some level they're safe and she's free from the burden and criticism of caring for them - so she can go out and party without any judgement- but of course we will keep on judging...
You make an excellent point; how else to explain her nonchalance the day she was supposed to be in Court? Very few people realize the responsibilities that come with raising children, much less raising them in the spotlight like she's had to do. Maybe it caught her totally off guard and she's in actuality very realieved. Obviously she's deluded, but maybe there's some relief there too. Good, good point.

WAKE UP AMERICA?????!!!!

Quote From: debleg4122

My problem with Britney's son's being taken away is the reason that the judge placed this decision on his order.  No doubt, Britney is out of control but to remove her children on the basics that he did - no drivers license and not taking a drug and alcohol test.  Yes, she did not do what he ordered her to do but is that a reason to remove the children.  You would think that it would have had to be because she was mistreating her children, neglect or various charges of not being a good mother.  Not obeying the order should have resulted in other punishment but not the removal of her children.  No doubt she probably will get her children back with all the money that she has at her disposal right along with the problems that this seperation will do to their family.  This just shows me again and again and again how broken our judicial system is and just how much power that one man(the Judge) has over us all.  WAKE UP AMERICA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Your post is two things:  (a) A contradiction...."no doubt Britney is out of control but to remove her children..." What did you want the judge to do?  Wait until she actually hurt the kids in her "out of control" behavior before taking them away to safety?? And (b) ".....taking them away.....not taking a drug and alcohol test".....As a grandparent who has lived this type of behavior from her own daughter, there is a reason she didn't take the test - SHE WOULD HAVE FAILED!!  I don't know how many times my own daughter would say "I didn't know, I forgot....blah, blah", only to discover that she had been using the entire time and this was just her latest excuse!!  The judge ORDERED her to do these things and SHE DID NOT COMPLY WITH THE COURT'S ORDERS.  Ignore the orders does not make this a "broken judicial system", it makes this nothing more than someone who thought they were above the law!  This judge obviously saw the children in danger with her behavior and many facts presented in the court room that you/we do not know.  How sad that you immediately blame the judicial system and place your belief into a once-pop-star!  Until you've walked these shoes, it might be best to sit back and wait for ALL the facts!!

Don't Understand

Of all people I would think the subject would be how to help or assist Britney.  Instead the media is bulling her!

Let's find a way to help instead of being mean and throwing stones.  All of us have gone through bad times and need a positive direction to recover.  She is very young to deal with all that she has received through her success.

Let's give a little compassion and positive direction.

Please don't join the celebrity banwagon

I have enjoyed watching Dr. Phil forever and the main reason is because it wasn't filled with the celebrity drama. You see this during commercials, the local and headline news, breaking news into your favorite programs. And now the one show that i rearrange my life around is giving me more celebrity drama.  I love the Dr. Phil show and i usually check to see what will be on each day of the week. Any day that is covering celebrity drama will be a skipped day for me.

Quote From: cissie88

I would suppose people are making a big deal out of it is because putting your children in jeopardy is A BIG DEAL!!!! Save all your sadness for the people who really deserve it.
Where is the evidence that she is a good mommy? She didn't even show up for the Court date!

Have we nothing more pressing to spend an hour doing?

I cannot believe that in our current world...war, terrorism, starvation, etc...that the topic worthy of a whole Dr. Phil program is Britney Spears.  Yes, her life is in turmoil.  Yes, she seems to be out of control.  Yes, her children need help.  But what business is it of the general American viewing audience?  Where are our priorities?

10/04 Britney Breaking News

I am also a young mother of two and pregnant with my third. Strange as it sounds but I feel a kinship with her in the reason that I had my first son just days before she had hers and also we had another son just days within her youngest. Going through pregnancy dealing with the hormones and such screw with your head so bad and I honestly believe she is suffering from sort of mental instability due to the pregnancies being so close and not getting help from a professional. Also I believe it was the best thing for the children and her to not have custody at this time until she can get her life under control. I would love to see her get her life back and the only way that is going to happen is if she gets help for whats wrong. My heart goes out to her children and her.

involuntary committment

Quote From: kulbreez97

Did I just hear Dr. Phil correctly?  Did he just say that Britney is not using good judgement and then did he go on to say that maybe she needs to be involuntarily commited?  What kind of "doctor" is Dr. Phil.  I don't know about elsewhere in the US, but in NJ, to be involuntarily committed you have to be a danger to yourself or others and that includes ideation and a plan.   We don't commit people for using bad judgement.  Without knowing that Britney has a specific plan to do harm to herself or others committing her would be a violation of her rights.

It's a shame that someone who acts as if he is a representative of the mental health field would act in a way that continues to stimatize issues relating to drug/alcohol abuse and mental illness.   Whether or not it is warrented in Britney's life should only be determined by a licensed professional that has spolen to her directly (and is not profiting off the decision).   It is not something that should be guessed at as a solution or avenue of intervention for someone that is using bad judgement.

Perhaps Dr. Phil should think about educating the public about mental health issues and REAL interventions, rather than continuously exploiting people (in this case even without their participation).

Up until recently I worked for our county Deputy Prosecuting Attorney, and in Arkansas, as well, you can only be committed if you are a danger to yourself or others. It's not a simple matter of getting someone and taking them to a facility. Although if you're a celebrity it might be easier to get into treatment, for regular people, it's a bunch of paperwork and a court hearing along with witnesses...the whole thing. Almost a mini-trial. Like you, I'm suprised Dr. Phil would suggest this. Putting your baby on your lap while you drive is not the worst thing a mom could do to cause a judge to render her a danger to others and thereby commit her.  As for anything else, there will need to be reliable wittnesses and proof that she's a danger to herself and her children.  The Courts demand a higher standard of proof than just watching some clips and coming to a conclusion. unless I missed something in the show, which is entirely possible, I think he missed it on this point.

feel bad i guess

Yes, i feel bad for Brittany but, i feel worst for the kids. They are going to need help im sure when they get older knowing their mom is brittany and dad is famous too. Its hard on kids. Bad enough she has to get mess up on drinking and whatever she does. It amazes me, how when ppl have money and they are famous it goes right to there heads, and there are so many poor ppl and ppl that wish they had money like them, and they go and get mess up. I sure hope she get help and eventually get her kids. But, im sure they all have to go to counseling or be on this show and Dr.Phil can help. I have 3 kids, and i wouldn't do anything stupid and get mess up so i could lose my kids. Why have kids if you are going to mess there lifes up as well. But, I sure hope both parents get help in dealing with this and soon enough the problem will be solve.
