Since Britney Spears and Kevin Federline split, the pop star's troubles have played out in the tabloids -- photographs at Hollywood hotspots with Paris Hilton, partying without panties, impulsively shaving her head, raging at a car with an umbrella, and spending a month in rehab.  Last month, the judge ordered the pop star to undergo random drug and alcohol testing twice a week as part of her ongoing custody battle with Federline.  Then what was supposed to be a comeback MTV Video Music Awards performance made Britney the butt of endless jokes, and the following week, her management firm dropped her and her divorce attorney resigned.  And on Monday, Britney hit rock bottom when she was ordered to temporarily relinquish physical custody of her children to Federline by a judge who had cited a troubling lifestyle fueled by drugs and alcohol.  Could Britney be at risk for suicide?  Plus, Dr. Phil will share insight into the Britney story from the inside. And, Spears’ former bodyguard who says he spoke out to protect her children, will tell Dr. Phil what led him to go public. If it's happening now, Dr. Phil is going to talk about it now! Share your thoughts, join the discussion.

Find out what happened on the show.

10/04 Britney Breaking News

Quote From: spritzy

Key word - used to look up to her!!!
This is really a form of medical help. Just because Britney can afford this type of help does not  mean she does not need it. Also I do hope Dr. Phil and Dr. Lawless do help out Britney Spears so she can work out  her problems. After that she should then be able to get her children back. I do not care for KFed as I only see him living off her and I would love to see HIM having to go thru the same things they are making  HER go thru. Anyway do not be such a hater because she has money---that is what we are all trying to accomplish!

Leave Britney alone, it's no one's business

I feel so sorry for Britney.  I think her personal problems should stay personal.  If she's got a drug problem or is depressed, that's her business.  I don't know whether her kids should have been taken away or not.  I haven't heard any reports of beatings or neglect.  However, none of us live her life and know what's going on.  I just wish they'd leave her alone.  Frankly, I don't care what her problems are just the same as I don't care what my neighbors problems are.  If the situation is being handled by doctors and other authorities, then why do we need to hear about every move she makes?  Let them take care of the situation without undo critcism and judgement.  I am a mom of two and would probably have a mental breakdown too if my kids were taken away from me.  I don't do drugs, I don't abuse my kids and I know I'm a good mom but I still fear authorities because my son bruises easily and is being tested for a bleeding disorder.  I've been questioned by a cop before just because he had a large bruise on his shin.  It's embarassing and terrifying to know all someone really has to do is make a call and they'll knock on your door and take your kids.  In fact, my boyfriend currently has custody of his son because the mother is a drug addict and her other two children were beaten by her boyfriend.  So I can see both sides.  They probably took Britney's kids before anything was really investigated and no one really knows why she didn't go to court.  No one should judge someone before they've been in their position and what we all think Britney has done may not be the whole story.  All we know is what people claim.  People are criticizing her for losing her kids and "running around town".  I wouldn't know where to go or what to do either if I had 20 people chasing me all day.  Heaven forbid she buy tampons or a condom or something.  To me it seems like the media is gonna chase her and exploit her until they get a real big story: "Britney's kills herself".  Then maybe they'll be happy.

Yes People Want to see Britney Destruct

Quote From: tori03

I really just believe britney has become mentally ill, therefore isn't really purposely making bad decisions. Therefore I have a hard time being angry with her being I don't consider her capable of making "choices" right now
KFED is definitely the one with Brit's mom that wants to see her destruct becasue he is the one that will get her millions. He has nothing so he obviously isn't helping Brit get well. It is pretty easy to see. Coudl you share the legal case now if something were to fatally happen to Brit and where her money goes.

That is all the lawyers want-money. And by the way why didn't the court order lady do her job and get the kids back? What was she doing or did she set this situation up?

Did Dr. Phil cross the line

On the Today show Lynn Spears said that Dr. Phil broke a trust when he spoke of this visit to Cedar Sinai Hospital too see Britney.  I no longer wonder why Britney and her sister are so messed up. This mother should start seeing reality and understand that if you ask someone who is in television he is going to have the expectation of being able to comment on the visit. Additionally all he said was that Britney needs to get help - does her mother think this is news. - her mother should have seen she got help a long time ago. I understand that Britney is an adult but I also know if you have a good relationship with your parents you will listen when they have your best interests at heart. Britney should have had at a minimum weekly counseling from the moment she thought about getting a divorce.  Lyn Spears is just looking for any scapegoats to try and move the blame for her daughters condition from her to everyone and anyone else.  Britney needs help and it is time for her family to send her some where far away from California for quite a while to get better.  Britney  can be a good mom but she needs to learn how to like herself first and how to handle herself in the world where she has chosen to make her living.

I understand the problem with the paparazzi - I think there should be a law that no one can come within 10 feet of a celebrity without that person's permission.  A Celebrity shold be defined as anyone who makes their living by singing, acting or playing an instrument, is a member of a band, orchestra, cast, or group and has earned enough notoriety to have had their picture in any type of media - print, tape, digital, or other method where the picture of the person has been displayed.  This law would not keep the paprazzi away completely but it would allow the person to move about without having to constantly ask these picturemongers to move constantly.

practice what you preach

Dr. Phil is always telling people to take responsibility for their own actions and own up to their mistakes. Well, Dr. Phil made a huge mistake by a) publicly going to the hospital to see Britney, and b) talking about Britney to the media. This is not professionally responsible or ethical behavior. The fact that he wanted to devote a show to Britney's problems without her consent is really astounding to me. He does not appear to be a very caring 'friend' to the Spears family, nor a competent therapist.

Britney seems to have an untreated mental illness. It is true that she needs professional help. She also needs people around her who are not going to try to exploit her for their own gains. Being the topic of a tawdry talk show will do nothing to help Britney. If Dr. Phil was such a great 'friend', he would have arranged a private, confidential meeting or phone call with Britney with her permission. And the world never would have known that he had any conversation with the Spears family if he were a true professional. Psychologists and other mental health professionals are not supposed to tell anyone who they have seen without a signed release from the patient.

Dr. Phil really should know better, and so should his representatives. So practice what you preach, doc. Take responsibility for a huge blunder instead of crowing with indignity on any and every network that will have you.

Dr. Phil is the most well known and respected psychologist because he is on television.  I am sure that if Dr. Phil was in private practice he would NEVER discuss his meeting with the Spears family or any other patients cases.  Dr. Phil is a television personality and has reached more people, including troubled mothers that are similar to Brittney just without the fame because of releasing the struggles and journeys of his guest or those that choose to discuss their "troubles" with him.  I am tired of the Spears family thinking they are above everyone and deserve special treatment.  I'm sure the Spears family watches television or at the very least knows that Dr. Phil helps his "clients" as well as millions of others dealing with similar situations through the media.  So, guess what?  I admire Dr. Phil for not wanting to help just the one spoiled rotten little pop princess who happens to be in a rut and her children are paying for it.  Instead, Dr. Phil is wanting to help her and the millions of viewers that are in similar situations or have friends or family members spiraling out of control.  Not everyone has the resources that Britney has and Dr. Phil is a way for the average person to get his expertise advice.  Way to go Dr. Phil.

Legal System

Quote From: leprachaunmom

Could you describe to America the legal system during a heated custody battle like this. To see KFed speeding along the other night is equally as bad. He could have stopped at a Fire Station for help. He seems equally as offensive as a parent who abuses pot and alcohol and god knows what else.

He just has Britney's money to pay for his attorney that is not helping the situation. Britney did the right thing to divorce this yahoo, but why did things get worse when she left KFed. It seems like a typical abusive relationship where KFed is retaliating and using these two poor children as missiles.

KFed has 3 other illegitimate kids, no education, no religion. Why doesn't a neutral Guardiam Ad Litem take both the kids until this passes. It doesn't seem any safer for the kids with KFED, especially after how he was driving last night.

My prediction is that KFED will resort to everything to see that Britney self destructs and then like Anna Nicole Smith these losers get the money-they don't care about the kids.

From where I am, the Legal System is for the protection of the children. There had to be more information presented to the judge than what the public knows in order for custody be placed with the father. I would hope that a Guardian Ad Litem has been appointed in order to fully investigate both parents. If the Guardian has been appointed, it does not mean that the children would be taken away from the father during the investigation. Guardian Ad Litem's do not take custody - they only investigate from an impartial standing.

I know this well because I am currently involved in a case where I took custody of my sister's daughter due to her alcoholism and mental instability. It has been the absolute worst thing I have ever been through in my life. My sister was, at first, out-of-her-mind angry but within a couple of days she understood. I tried so hard to work with her and help her but the situation became so twisted and violent.

DSS got involved and supported me. As time went on, my sister made my life, my family's, life and her own daughter's life a living nightmare. She had money and took us to court with false accusations that eventually wiped out all of our savings and has pretty much put us in bankruptcy.

A Guardian Ad Litem was appointed and we (my husband and I) were again supported but to get us out of the middle, we ended up having to give custody of my neice to DSS and we became her foster-parents.

Somehow, my sister has been able to convince a small army that SHE was the victim and now we are no longer in a battle but we are in a WAR. We fear for our safety and, especially, my niece's.

My neice has been in counseling the entire time. Since she has been at my home, horrible facts have emerged about her life behind closed doors with her mother. I feel like I am dying inside for not seeing and taking action sooner and I am dying inside because I have lost not just my sister - but my Identical Twin sister.

Back to the legal system - this fight never ends. Legally, the door will never be shut to the possibility that my neice, who is 10, could go back to her mother.

I got off track - sorry - just remember - it's what's in the child's best interest. I hope a Guardian Ad Litem is assigned and the father (KFED) is investigated THOROUGHLY too.

I don't get it

I just don't get it,  i live in Holland (Netherland), and i have been following up on Britney and her actions, the way i look at it is that she just has problems since she broke up with Kevin, and iff the paparazzi is on your back 24/7 watching you with every move you make, then i don't think it's strange that she does crazy things.
In my mind she doesn't get any time off from the paparazzi, so she can't recover from her problems.
I don't know iff her mother Lynne can get her treatment by getting her forced to a mental home, i thought that a mother could do that?
I also read that Jamie is pregnant, and that there was a lot of negative comment on, i had my son when i was 20, i didn't choose for it, but i'm so happy with him, he is such a great boy, and i'm overloaded by positive comments on how great of a mother i am! Not all teenagers make bad parents, they make sometimes great parents!

I hope that Britney can see her kids when she is better, and that the whole family is going to be a happy family again! I also hope that her mother is kicking her daughters bud in a mental hospital, cause iff my son at that age and in that situation is going crazy, i would also kick is bud into a mental hospital, and i would do everything to get him better, no matter what, that is what a mother has to do, because you own child is and always will be YOUR child.

LEAVE HER ALONE

Dr. Phil,

I am so sick of hearing everyone judging Brittney!!! I feel so sorry for her.

You have to help her!!!!!         She is going to end up getting killed just as Princess Diana did.  You know she is not the only one that has troubles or made mistakes in their lives!

How in the world is she going to get better mentally, if she is not left alone! I watch Inside Edition today, and she was asking them to "PLEASE LEAVE HER ALONE" Just as Princess Diana did, and look at what happened to her.

I do believe if everyone would just leave her alone, she could TRY to get her life back.

I just can not express enough on how Judgmental everyone that talks about her!

They need to clean up their own dirty laundry....

Vanessa Jones~

PLEASE HELP GET ALL OF THESE PEOPLE OFF HER! YOU ARE THE ONLY ONE THAT CAN>>>
