(Original Air Date: 10/15/08) The speculation surrounding O.J. Simpson has never stopped since his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and Ron Goldman were tragically murdered 13 years ago. Millions watched O.J.'s infamous white Bronco chase on TV. The murder trial, which lasted 10 months, is often called the trial of the century and was the most watched in history. Simpson stirred the controversy again by attempting to publish a book called, If I Did It. While he says it's a work of fiction, the family of Ron Goldman believes If I Did It is his confession, and that he got caught up in the interview process for the book and forgot that he was supposed to be speculating rather than reporting. Now, the Goldmans are the focus of a huge controversy as they take over publishing the tome. Are they justified in taking the profits away from the man they believe to have killed their loved one? And, meet the ghostwriter of If I Did It, Pablo Fenjves, a man who sat across the table from O.J. for over three months as the former football star told him how it would have happened -- if he had been the killer. Join Fenjves as he goes back to the crime scene and reveals compelling details from his conversations with Simpson. Plus, Dr. Phil offers his take on O.J. and this now best-selling book. Was it a confession, or is it truly just a hypothetical account? Tell us what you think!

Find out what happened on the show.

A Black Man's Perspective

I cannot claim to speak for my race a whole, but many of my black friends view the OJ trial and the aftermath events as typical of white America's perception of black men as boogie men.  It was about a white woman being victimized and a black man being the culprit.  The victimization of a white woman by a black man historically invokes fear and anger from whites in our society and frustration and dispair from blacks.  If this would have happened barely 50 years ago, OJ would have been hanged before the facts were even argued at trial.  Thank God for progress.

I personally think that OJ is innocent, at least there is definitely reasonable doubt that he is guilty.  For this book, I believe he pulled deeply from his imagination to help develop it.  He's had over 10 yrs to think about it and like most best-selling authors, he brought forward a provocative tale to sell the book.  I know that actors have the talent to bring out emotions to make their performances come to life and feel real to the audience.  Why couldn't he have done that for this book?  Plus, who would read a book from OJ about how he didn't do it.? The 1st trial has already accomplished that.  Plus, according to the show, his children signed off on it.  If his kids (they are adults now) believe that their father is innocent of the murder of their mother, why can't the rest of America?

Clearly the author is biased.  Certainly today on Dr. Phil, we only heard one side of the story.  If Dr. Phil could bring on OJ or his children, it would be great to hear the whole story.

My heart and prayers go out to the Goldman and Brown families for their losses.  I pray that the Goldman's pursuit of vindication leads them to the love of Jesus.  No one should have to live which that much hate in their hearts for another person.

Galvanize women to leave their abusers with this show

I had forgotten the link, but watching OJ’s trial and all the horrors helped me to make up my own mind about leaving an abusive situation in September 1998. I was “born again” in 1999. I have had extensive counseling, and have moved past this. I joined a wonderful church that has a “praise and worship” service, which I attend each Sunday. I am now happy and working. I have peace now.

But back then he had separated me from my family by 2,500 miles. I traveled the 2,500 miles and divorced him. He has since died from cancer.

OJ

Was very angry that he wasn't convicted of this horrable loss of life..Well he confessed in the book I wasn't going to read the book since he would profit from it but since the Golden's will get the profits I will buy it..I feel sorry for his kids and what he has put in there heads..

10/15 The O.J. Book Battle

Oj is an egotistical self absorbed KILLER, he is a sociopath and should be rotting away in jail.

I also believe that the book is a confession with a smirk on his face. He is sick, he is a pig, and the only reason he is not sitting in prison is because the juror's we're more afraid of more riots in they're streets than of letting this pig walk.

I really can not understand why any one would object to the Goldman's fighting for the rights to this book.

I can't say and have not heard yet what they plan to do with the money, but can you honestly say that if it was your family member that you would just let they're killer profit from writing a book about the murder??? Anyone in they're right mind would fight to stop the book, or at least stop that pig from profiting from it.

Me personally I would of done the same thing but I will be disappointed with them if they don't use the money to fund agencies that help women who are the victims of spousal abuse etc. I really would have thought that nobody would have bought that stupid book but I am often disappointed by people, and this was no exception.

guilt

Its not a black and white issue. Our society for the most part Ifeel has moved past that. This is an issue of guilt or innocence. O.J. is guilty. Blood in the Bronco. Blood at his home. Gloves on the premises. Cut on his hand. Violent history. He murdered and got away with it for now. Its hard to wait for it but he will get what he deserves. I hope its painful. Ihope the children see him for what he is someday. A lying, manipulative, spoiled, immature, raving maniac.

With all due respect OJ has all but admitted his guilt.  He doesn't even pretend to be innocent.

I do believe there is a real issue here that could disadvantage blacks and other minorities, it just didn't affect OJ.  the issue is that our legal system is highly impacted by wealth.  OJ had the money, he walked.  Money talks.

Your racism troubles me and the idea that you feel that so many feel that black men are the boogie man.  That is not my experience.  However, I have lived in mostly smaller cities where the differences between white and black do not seem large.  In our community which has a large illegal population of Mexican's there are very few problems with white and blacks, we are from the same country, speak the same language, raise our children with the same values...  Just doesn't seem to be a problem.  However that is just my view.

10/15 The O.J. Book Battle

Quote From: sallieb123

I for one do not believe O.J. kill Ron and Nicole, don't really care who did, but for this woman to come on this show and ridcule Johnny Cochran was unbelievable.  Johnny is not here to defend hisself.  She state real class.  Yes Mr. Cochran had class, but I guess him being a black man and you being white, you don't think black people have class.  As the trail stated this was all about being black and white.  Since O.J. is black, you people definitely wanted him to go to jail. He shouldn't have been married to this white woman in the first place.

your the one making this a race issue. All I saw then and all I see now is a pathetic little boy who threw a temper tantrum because one of his "possessions" had the nerve to leave him. Not a black "boogie man" like another person wrote, I don't care what race you are or what mix of race the couple is I am equally as sickened when ever a man kills his wife or when a wife kills her husband!

Aside from that I am kind of offended that you "don't care" that 2 PEOPLE are dead but you're all upset because this woman didn't appreciate Mr. Cochran acting like a jerk, and not having any sympathy for the victims families!

I really hope you reread your post and realize your not helping racism die your keeping it alive.

God bless you,

~Nixi

He DOESN'T Care.....

Quote From: woundedknee43

I can not believe that he would have the guts to write such an awful and dispicable book!  How dare he write such trash!  Does he not think how this would effect his kids!!!  Hasn't he done enough to those kids that they need to know what their father is capable of?  This is going to be such a mind game on those kids with such nonsense.  Isn't it bad enough that their mother was taken from them in such a horrible way that their father has to write a book on how he would kill her?  Get real O.J. and think about someone besides your poor pitiful soul!!  You need to look at how to help your children instead of showing them what a cold-blood SOB that you really are!!!

He Is the Lizzie Borden of our time!

He's a cold-blooded sociopath, who has no conscience. Why would he care about how a book effects his children when he is believed, by most Americans, to have murdered his childrens mother!

Such a Shame

I really believe that when someone commits a crime as terrible as  murder, and gets away with it, their conscience is eventually going to get the best of them. In Oj's case I think he is just busting at the seams to tell the truth, especially to anyone who wil listen. I also think that he is smug enough to think that people actually want to read that trash. He has had all of this time to listen to his kids ask about their mother, and I'm sure that everytime they do, he feels a little more guilt, he's probabally had many threats from people in general, probabally alot of hate mail, and I would like to think that he's also had alot of time to replay the events of that horrible night over and over again. As for the actual publishing of the book, I think that there is always going to be someone who is sick enough to buy his book.

I also think that if people really want this man to pay for his crime they should not buy it and let the damn thing sit on the shelves and collect dust. This should also be done out of respect for Nicole Brown, Ron Goldman, nad their families.
