(Original Air Date: 10/15/08) The speculation surrounding O.J. Simpson has never stopped since his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and Ron Goldman were tragically murdered 13 years ago. Millions watched O.J.'s infamous white Bronco chase on TV. The murder trial, which lasted 10 months, is often called the trial of the century and was the most watched in history. Simpson stirred the controversy again by attempting to publish a book called, If I Did It. While he says it's a work of fiction, the family of Ron Goldman believes If I Did It is his confession, and that he got caught up in the interview process for the book and forgot that he was supposed to be speculating rather than reporting. Now, the Goldmans are the focus of a huge controversy as they take over publishing the tome. Are they justified in taking the profits away from the man they believe to have killed their loved one? And, meet the ghostwriter of If I Did It, Pablo Fenjves, a man who sat across the table from O.J. for over three months as the former football star told him how it would have happened -- if he had been the killer. Join Fenjves as he goes back to the crime scene and reveals compelling details from his conversations with Simpson. Plus, Dr. Phil offers his take on O.J. and this now best-selling book. Was it a confession, or is it truly just a hypothetical account? Tell us what you think!

Find out what happened on the show.

10/15 The O.J. Book Battle

people need to stop attacking the jury in the oj simpson trial. it is not because they were dumb or stupid in any way. they were asked to do a job ( one that most of us don't want ) and they did it to the best of their ability. people  are so self righteous on this board it's ridiculous. if that was the decision that was made then that's that. many of innocent people go to jail every day, and most of you shouting for oj's blood are those promoting a flawed justice system. why not get the people wrongly accused justice? better yet leave people who were proven not guilty alone. what about nicole's children? do they not deserve a break? and those stupid racial slurs that are going around? people grow up, you make nothing in this country better all you do is yap yap and nothing gets done. go out and exact change in the world by doing something positive. have you gone to an inner city school and tried to help the youth, or visited a homeless shelter and given of your time, or better yet when was the last time you tried to walk in someone else's shoes to see how difficult their lives are? do something more worth while than putting others down. or is the problem really yourself?

Good job Goldman family

I am so happy to see a victims family fight back !! OJ might have "gotten off" with a not guilty but the Goldmans have persued him and made his life miserable. I agree with Dr. Phil that Ron would have been proud of them. I hope the actions of the Goldmans have tormented OJ!! What I can't figure out about people that feel sorry for OJ is this... why would you pity such an obviously sick and twisted person? No one with an ounce of morality or compasion would contrive such a book. He is evil!!! Just because someone has a sports talent doesn't make them good. We need to stop holding these sports stars up as idols- they are what they are- talented in a certain area. That doesn't make you a role model.

Koudos to Judith Regan!

I am very happy the Goldman's have gravitated more towards closure with the O.J. "confession".  Long time coming.  However, I believe that Judith Regan deserves not only a public apology from the Goldman's but also a world of thanks and gratitude for getting this sociopath comfortable enough to open up to her and "confess!"  Any journalist would have killed Ms. Regan to get that interview.  But instead they turned on her, Geraldo included, because of the fire behind the smoke!  BTW, it was Ms. Regan who got O.J. to confess on camera, not Pablo Fenjves, though he has been made a sole hero for all his efforts.  After winning the rights to the book and finally reading the book, the Goldman's approached Ms. Regan, saying, " It is a confession!  You were right!  Would you like to re-publish it?"  Who knew? She did.  Naturally she declined.  Afterall, she single- handedly sold 1 billion dollars worth of books for Harper Collins so she will go on like Clive Davis did from Arista. How many of us can say that?  Rupert Murdoch, the Goldman's and the infamous Denise Brown should re-evaluate their positions with her.  In the original deal, O.J. wasn't to acquire a dime from the profits so Ms. Regan wasn't conspiring with him in any way for him to get rich.  As a result, she was fired from Haper Collins, lost her book imprint, Regan Books, millions of dollars in book deals she had in the making, public humiliation and a ridiculous anti-semitic smear campaign brought up against her by the powers-that-be!  Has anyone ever heard of Denise Brown admitting she was advanced 1 million dollars for producing the rights to Nicole's diary from Ms. Regan?  I think not.  She never produced  after swearing she had the rights to it.  She walked away with 1million dollars then went straight to the media to bash Ms. Regan.  You do the math.  Example.  When the feds are dealing with a perp, and the perp wants a helicopter, cash, a getaway car, etc., the feds comply to their wishes because there's no time for failure with the intentions of capturing the perp and getting it all back at the end of the day.  You could look at any advances of monies made by her as such.  There was a much bigger picture!  Koudos to Judith Regan!  Rupert Murdoch was wrong and he'll never find another publisher as strong as she is in his lifetime to work for him!  Ms. Regan was right on target and way ahead of them all!  On another level, Ms. Regan only did her job and extraordinarily well be it unorthodoxed to some I might add, to cover a "confession" interview with a man who got away with murder and was ready to sing to her.  The woman publishes books of all kinds, some controversial, like this one.  The largest court case of the 20th century, which by the way got Gretta Van Sustern her show, Starr Jones launched and a host of employees jobs at Court TV.  Gotta give her her props people!

Response regarding the children

Quote From: aunt_angel

One of the greatest rights we have as American citizens, is we are innocent until proven guilty. Proven guilty in a court of law by a jury of our peers. Not proven guilty in the media. Not proven guilty by victims families, and not proven guilty by what I say 13 years later. I, thankfully, was not present at the condo that two people were killed. I have no idea of OJ was there, however, a jury listened to the evidence, and said that OJ was innocent.   I would honestly rather see someone guilty walk out a free man, than I would ever want to put an innocent man in prison for something he didn't do. Let's just take the one fact that we have, no matter what else we may think, a jury found OJ innocent of murder. It doesn't matter what I think, what the Goldmans think, what the media thinks, or even in this case what Dr Phil thinks. He was found Not Guilty. Case over. We can not go back and change that. He is not guilty of the murders.   He is now looking at charges in Las Vegas. I hope that the judicial system in Las Vegas is not so focused on, Let's make sure we put him away this time, that OJ can get a fair trail. If he is guilty let him go to jail. If he isn't, let he stay out, and let us as American Citizens stopped trying him over and over again in the media. Personally, I think the media is to blame for a lot of the problems. America has so much more "facts" and "opinions" than any other time in history. Even if we don't know if the "facts" are facts, they are treated as just that a FACT. Depending on the media personality, there word is taken as FACT as well.   I have to wonder about the mental state of the the Goldman's that for 13 years they have not let this go. They haven't moved on, and they are willing to take the profits from OJ's book. When OJ was getting the profit it shouldn't be published, they get the profits lets publish the book.   Dr. Phil, you almost always say the reason you do the shows you do is because of the children. Nothing was mentioned about how the children are. What kind of help have they received to get over the brutal murder of their mother, and the constant media attention of their father. What about the Children.   Personally I think it is time for the American people to move past OJ, and onto something we can fix!
You seem to be forgetting that "the children" are no longer children. They are both of age now and both had to sign off on the book deal as was stated on the program today. One can only guess what the circumstances were regarding that. One thing is certain and that is they either signed off on it of their own volition, in which case that makes them vultures feeding off of their dead mother's carcass, or they were pressured into it by their father for the funds that were " supposedly " to be put in trust for their future. Regardless of the circumstances, what kind of father would ever dream of writing such a book? "Hey kids! If I would have stabbed your mother to death and almost decapitate her,oh and another innocent person who just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, this is how I would have done it." Are you kidding? You seem to be so righteous about the justice system. Well juries are wrong all the time my friend. Just because you are found not guilty doesn't mean you didn't do it and vice versa. You are also forgetting there was a jury in the civil case who did find him guilty beyond reasonable doubt. If O.J really wanted to secure his children's welfare, how about getting a job? I'm sure there are plenty of people out there of questionabl morality who would be happy to hire such a bottom feeder. But maybe he doesn't have the time. After all, he's probably out there looking for the real killer between rounds of golf.

Book Proceeds

If I understand correctly...the book will be available for sale soon? And if so, does the Goldman family receive the profits? Oh, and to be clear on one thing...OJ DEFINITELY DID IT! I think this book is his "bragging rights" and he is proud of it. What a sick @#%*! I feel for Ron and Nicole's family.

The Goldman's

Quote From: dianec101

you say you would not purchace the book, but from what I understand, all the proceeds go to the goldman family, so yes buy the book, don't read it burn it and let the goldman's have all the proceeds

I'm sorry, I do not feel any more sorry for the Goldmans any more than I feel for any other victims family. O.J. is not the sharpest tool on the sheds, and seems to be around the bend mentally (too many head tackles?

BUT, at the time of the murder, Ron was estranged from the rest of the family, cast out as a bad son and brother for his lifestyle. He gets murdered and it is the greatest tragedy since Macbeth. The "loving" family gathers round like wounded puppies (granted, they will NEVER be able to patch up their differences). OJ was found innocent by a jury of his peers and later found guilty in a wrongful death civil suit.

It appears to me that the Goldman's new idea of justice is the same old idea of justice since the Egyptians. Money. Pure and simple. Money. The Goldmans were never well to do and Mr. Goldman and his daughter come across that the death of his son and her brother is a financial gold mine.

Where are the Browns? Moving on with their lives. Mr Goldman gets all choked up on the show about details in the book. Don't read the damn thing. They has it shut down once, and when the GOLDMANS found out the GOLDMANS could make money, they went to court to get the book published.

Mr. Goldman is not pushed by the tragedy of their son's death. They are pushed by one simple emotion:

GREED

If I did it

Quote From: lisa_noe

that the media is willing to spend time, and energy on a sad soul as O.J. is!!!

He did it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  and got away with it.  what else to ad to that!  The whole world knows his story already, as a matter of fact, we are tired of his storyies.

so no................ this book will not be one that Ill encourage!

Elisabeth

What amazed me about this show is how the Goldman's can still call OJ a killer and a murderer after he was found not guilty in a court of law and then sue him for killing some one he was found not guilty in a court of law. They are entitled to their opinion, but to go on national television and call him a killer seems like slander to me. Was any effort made to let OJ or anyone representing him to tell his side of the story. I do not believe the ghost writer at all, he does not seem credible to me. As far as OJ knowing details about the crime goes, he was at the trail and heard the other side offer their opinion on how he killed them. What he did in Vegas was wrong and if he is found guilty he should go to jail. As far as the crime he was found NOT GUILTY of let it go and give it a rest. I expect better from Dr. Phil.

   Sincerely,

    Ted Gouoglis

O.J.

The Goldman's appear like gold diggers. Going after a watch. Come on! The Simpson children are victims too. What is taken away from O.J. is really taken from the victim children. I feel for the Goldman's but 13 years. Come on! Take Dr. Phil's advise. "Give your hearts a rest". Get on with your life. Revenge is as ugly as O.J. Simpson. I wish O.J. went to jail for life so this can be over with forever. Money will not bring Ron back.
