(Original Air Date: 10/15/08) The speculation surrounding O.J. Simpson has never stopped since his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and Ron Goldman were tragically murdered 13 years ago. Millions watched O.J.'s infamous white Bronco chase on TV. The murder trial, which lasted 10 months, is often called the trial of the century and was the most watched in history. Simpson stirred the controversy again by attempting to publish a book called, If I Did It. While he says it's a work of fiction, the family of Ron Goldman believes If I Did It is his confession, and that he got caught up in the interview process for the book and forgot that he was supposed to be speculating rather than reporting. Now, the Goldmans are the focus of a huge controversy as they take over publishing the tome. Are they justified in taking the profits away from the man they believe to have killed their loved one? And, meet the ghostwriter of If I Did It, Pablo Fenjves, a man who sat across the table from O.J. for over three months as the former football star told him how it would have happened -- if he had been the killer. Join Fenjves as he goes back to the crime scene and reveals compelling details from his conversations with Simpson. Plus, Dr. Phil offers his take on O.J. and this now best-selling book. Was it a confession, or is it truly just a hypothetical account? Tell us what you think!

Find out what happened on the show.

10/15 The O.J. Book Battle

Quote From: kellystwin

Its clear to me that OJ did commit this horrible crime and simply won by a tragic list of technicalities and allot of money! His pathetic effort to apologize to a nation that once worshiped him is twisted and is a clear sign of his mental state! He is I believe a sociopath in nature so truly believes that he can in some way regain respect while making money at the same time! His life has become so pathetic with friends that come from shady backgrounds! Great for the Goldman's! Hold him responsible! Spend the rest of their lives haunting him! He needs this constant reminder of the lives he so selfishly destroyed!
NO SUCH THING AS A PERFECT CRIME SO THEY SAY

Karate

Quote From: piccolo41

OJ indicated in the book, "If I Did It," that Ron Goldman got in a defensive Karate stance.  OJ did not not Ron Goldman before June 12, 1994 so he couldn't have known if Ron knew Karate unless he was actually there the night of the murders.  The one question I wish I could ask Fred and Kim Goldman is, "did Ron know Karate???"  If so, OJ was there.
Ohhh, that would have been a great question to ask the Goldman family while they were sitting there on stage!  However, we all know he was there!  I will never understand how a jury sat there and heard all the evidence against him, especially the DNA evidence, and let that man walk!!  How do you think he would explain the writing of his book to his children?  It's mental abuse.

Thank you!  Yes, he was there.  The amount of evidence against him is chilling.  I actually e-mailed the Ron Goldman Foundation and asked the karate question.  I received an auto-reply that said the Goldman family reads and replies to every e-mail.  However, this isn't a question about the foundation, it's a question about the book so I'm not sure.  If I get a reply, I'll post it here.

Storm in a tea cup

Even if OJ did it and got away with it this is really a dispute amoungst the filthy rich. How many innocent people has your president killed? How many innocent people went to the gallows while he was govenor of Texas? How many innocent people died because he did not do his duties as President on Sept 11, 2001 and during Hurricane Katrina? How many innocent people in Iraq are dead because "well shucks we thought Saddam had WMDs - that was what I was told?". Western Nations and the USA in particular have a lot of blood on their hands so when one wife beating, over paid, over testosteroned bad tempered man gets away with one murder and so much time and is spent by the media on it I believe our priorities are wrong. Let's face it if the justice system requires the prosecution to prove "beyond reasonable doubt", then some will get away with murder. Let a hundred guilty men go free so that one innocent man is not wrongly convicted.

Karma

I'm from Sydney, Australia and have just finished watching the O.J. Simpson episode on Dr Phil.  I was sickened about the book and the great detail that OJ goes into about the murders "hypothetically".  How can it be hypothetical?  He is a sick man and I wish for him to go to jail where he belongs.  The Goldman family has tried for so long to get justice and I pray for them to get peace eventually when that evil man is put behind bars.  I firmly believe that what goes around comes around and with his arrogance, stupidity and unintelligence, he has found himself in a corner in the next episode of his seedy life (the Las Vegas arrest).  I don't wish to read the book because I have listened to both Dr Phil and Oprah speak about it on their shows (Oprah has refused to read it).  Abusive men are unacceptable and they should all be sent to jail.  May Nicole and Ron's souls rest in peace and may their families find peace in their hearts.  We are thinking of them.  My heart goes out to them all.

OJ blood

I understood he was found not guilty because the blood on the gatepost was contaminated with preservative (ie obtained from OJs stored blood sample).  The question is: Who put it there and why were they not charged with perverting the course of justice?

Thank you, Pam

Quote From: cuda7001

Since the very beginning of this trial I have thought that OJ was innocent but covering for the real killer (his own son). The reason for this is that I refuse to believe that OJ would have done something like this with his own children in the house that could wake up and see him doing this at any time. He would NEVER want his children to see their mother in this manner.

Throughout the trial, I watched all the evidence and heard all the theories. But the one thing I didn't hear was that OJ's oldest son could have done it. He had always had a crush on Nicole and she just basically laughed it off as a childs imagination. For him it was real and deep and he was upset that she didn't take him seriously. The amount of passion that went into this murder was horrendous. It shows that someone that loved Nicole deeply had felt betrayed. OJ was not betrayed. they were divorced and had a good repore between themselves. It was his oldest son that carried the anger.

For all of you people that think OJ did it, think about the other possibilities. As for Ron Goldman's dad collecting the proceeds from this book or anything else of OJ's it is just plain WRONG!!!! He is cashing in on his sons death and he is collecting blood money. He does not deserve this nor does he deserve the other personal belongings of OJ's. The fact that he made changes to the book tells me this man is out for one thing and one thing only. To get rich offf someone else. He is a poor excuse for a human being and someone needs to stop him. The judges ruling in his favor really are not looking at the real story behind all his motions to collect even more profit from his son's death. He was a nobody until his son died. Now he thinks he is a real celebrity. Stop giving him what he wants. He deserves to remain a NOBODY!!!

Thanks Pam.  You have restored my faith in people.  There are so many haters out there, but you display the calm voice of reason that is lacking from all these other hate-filled narratives.

10/15 The O.J. Book Battle

Quote From: dollface54

It is greed, what else would push people after 13 years to go to court to get the rights to a book that had been canned by another court..........of course they want profit they went to civil court won a judment of 36 Million dollars...what do you think there after....Hello are u in there!!!!!!
Families should not profit by someones death...and he i have walked in there shoes...i know the pain and the anger and the grief of it.....but one thing for sure u need to know when to let go of the anger or it will slowly but surely eat u up...i had to go for therapy for 2 years the best thing i ever did.....and this is what the goldman's need seriously...u could see the hate and anger in Kim's face on the show....she kind of reminded me of me 8 years ago...it was like looking in the mirror...........
The thing that gets me is u say dont judge others and yet u are judging yourself...think about it...if you havent been there u cant say anything......

What I believe pushed them to go to court was the fact that O.J. would profit from this book. Do you feel O.J. should make the monies off this book??? Never the less we have different views , you feel the family is profiting from death and I feel the family is preventing O.J. from profiting from his own murders. And don't be so sure who has walked in their shoes besides you. every situation is different . you can say your judging as well by saying their driven by greed.........Think about it . Basically I feel your saying your the expert because youve been there. and since I have not I should not voice my opinion or feelings on this situation.

Maybe it just bothered me that someone made a comment as if the Goldman family wanted one thing only, MONEY and could care less about the death of their loved one.

10/15 The O.J. Book Battle

Quote From: bevb56

Sometimes I can't believe what I read.  How do you know what Ron and his family relationships were?  If they had a disagreement that doesn't mean anything, and it certainly doesn't negate the horror and sadness they would feel with his murder. I hope that you are never faced with such a tragedy in your family.

The Goldman family wants to stop OJ from profiting from their son's murder.  What is hard to understand about that?? This is the only legal way the courts have allowed them to get some justice.  As it is the money they receive from the sale of the books goes to victims of crime.  How can you twist that to make it into something that they are doing wrong?  I'm constantly amazed at people's thought process. Try having an open mind, and putting yourself in their place. Wouldn't you want to seek justice for the death of a loved one????

Thank you bevb56 I could not have said it better myself!!!,

Quote From: bnaito

People who continue to say that O.J. Simpson murdered Nicole and Ron continue to play double standards. They continue to persecute the man after the court cleared him of criminal responsibility. This indicates that they don't believe in the justice system, and that make it very dangerous. What information do they have that wasn't presented in the trial that makes them more right than the jurors who decided on the case? Hypocrites!

bn

I have been trying to figure out how so many people can pass judgment on a man who has been cleared of a murder charge.  We all want to persecute this man simply because the family can't let go of their beliefs.  The media is just as bad because they follow him everywhere to see if he does something that they can say "Look the murderer is at it again."  Let's just leave the Goldman's at home brewing over what they consider a miscarriage of justice.  I have to give it to O.J. he tries to keep his life on track even though the media and the Goldman's do everything to make his life a living hell.  Let's find some news that can change a life or save our fractured society.
