(Original Air Date: 10/29/07) Fraud. lies. conspiracy. They may sound like the latest Washington scandal, but these are allegations of exes at war over child support. Dr. Phil's guests claim they became victims of the perfect crime when they were led to believe they fathered a child that was not biologically their own and were forced to pay. First up, Enrique says he was shocked and angered to discover he was not the father of his youngest daughter, Selina, and that she was conceived during his ex-wife, Maria's, adulterous affair. Maria says he raised Selina but then abandoned her to save money. Why does Maria say Enrique's current wife is to blame for the fractured relationship? Next, 13-year-old Selina speaks one on one with Dr. Phil. Will she decide to let the man she once called Daddy back in her life? Then, Carnell Smith, who uses the online moniker, "Man4Justice," suffered a similar fate to Enrique, and but he fought and won. He says he's tired of seeing women trap men and get away with it. A heated debate ensues between him and feminist attorney, Gloria Allred, who argues that men like Enrique should continue to act as the father ... and continue paying! Talk about the show here.

Find out what happened on the show.

both parents are wrong

I feel like if I were that beautiful girls mother I would not worry about getting child support from that man, I would worry more about my daughters mental health and happiness. I would worry more about the relationship my daughter had with her "father". If I were her father on the other hand, I would pay and pay and pay and let karma take care of the lies I had been told. I can't imagine walking away from my "child" biological or not for any reason. I was amazed at the disconnect both of these people showed when it came to her pain. Her world was ripped up and neither one of them seemed to have their focus on her. SHAME ON YOU! SHAME ON BOTH OF YOU!!

10/29 Parent Trap

Ok, no woman should ever ever lie to a man about him being the father of a child.  That being said I don't understand how a man who has loved a child for years could just say see ya, I'm not your dad.  If you have loved that child and treated that child as your own you should continue to do so.  I am a mother and if someone told me that any of my 4 children was not mine, it wouldn't change anything.  If by some strange chance one of my children was switched at birth I could never just say too bad, I'm not really your mom.  I love my kids and if that happened I would fight tooth and nail to keep my child even if he/she wasn't my biological child.  After months or years of loving them, I could never give them up.  How can any man just take himself out of a childs life?  Its not the child's fault that their mom was a liar.  The kids should not suffer because of the decisions the adults in their lives make.  Love should not be conditional on D.N.A  Its a choice not a biological link.....

Screwed Blue and Tatooed

This snake of a woman gets away with paternal fraud, then sits there and laughs in her ex-husband's face? Gloria Allred is exactly what the husband's new wife said she was, a hired gun. She's sells her outrageous mouth to anyone that will pay her price. I was elated to see the "men4Justice" fellow actually take the wind out that lousy, man-hating shyster's sails for once.

What NERVE to say he should STILL have child support extorted from him simply because he thought he was the kid's father, according to his lying, cheating, bottom-feeding ex-wife? The ONLY thing I think he did wrong was the manner in which he informed his child. And, he should have kept in contact with her. It truly wasn't her fault.

Men have been getting screwed (no pun intended) by the courts and underhanded, lying, vindictive women for too long. Now an organization that enables men to fight back against these outrageous, outdated and grossly unfair laws is gaining strength. Those women low enough to be trolling for a naive meal ticket to an easy life will gradually find it much harder to rip off unsuspecting men. I say "Bravo!"

Though it happened to me years ago, I know too well what being lied to feels like, then standing helpless as the courts helped my ex steal nearly everything I had, was well as trash my life, reputation and credit.  The downside to my experience has left me wary of almost any woman to this day.

Men are almost completely powerless in today's society. A less than honest woman can ruin your life with one lie and a phone call. I may never live long enough to see these outrageous laws changed towards givng men some control of their lives back, but I will never again hand any woman the power to ruin my life. I may sleep alone these days, but I no longer sleep with one eye open. Trading occasional warmth for the ability to safeguard my well-being seems a fair trade.

If I ever win the lottery, Men4Justice will get a healthy donation.

Gloria, you're all wrong in this case!!

Usually, I agree with Gloria Aldridge but on this topic, she is completely, completely wrong!!  This perspective in essense completely ignores the breach of the marital contract, the lies and the responsibility of one person to be honest with a spouse and with their children.

In addition, the children do have a right to know who their actual father is, whether or not that meeting is idyllic or not.

I agree with the gentleman on the show that said, the woman was grown up enough to have the affiar, unprotected and inconsiderate of everyone else's rights/feelings/interests.  Be grown up enough to deal with the reality and consequences.

10/29 Parent Trap

I do not agree how this supposed to be father could take his supposed to be daughter to the park and do such a devastating thing to her. But, I saw the mother smile and i could tell by looking at her she was lying. Be honest with yourself lady. Why make that poor guy pay for a child that is not his? Can't even belive woman can do this. I am 25, female and I believe there needs to be a law for these kind of people, and soon. How can people pertect there rights.  I would hope still you would never bring children into it. Tell the guy you don't have to pay child support just be her support. Be her dad still. It is all the mothers fault!!!! I feel so strong on this it is rediculous.

Dr. Phil stop making Enrique feel bad

I hate the way this show potrayed the father.  It seemed like Dr. Phil was all over Enrique about the way he told the girl, and yes maybe it wasn't the right setting but if he didn't do it who would have.  NOT MARIA she kept it a secret all this time and would never had said a thing had Enriques new wife not brought it to the table.  I think that he should have berated Maria to the point were she understood the gravity of her actions, just making her feel bad was not enough.  She did not get that she pulled the rug right under Enrique.  The pride and love he felt for that girl, the way he looked at her as HIS baby all changed in one second.  Did Dr. Phil even care how he felt?  He called him a victim too but only after he was made to feel like a heel for not wanting to support a child that was not his.  Did any one bother to ask or care if he was paying for the other child that was his and see how his relationship with that daughter is? NO and thats because if he is current with that child support and has an ok to good relationship with that daughter than he wouldn't  be able to make him feel so bad.  I also hated the way that they made out his new wife to be, as the wife she should point out to her husband when she feels that her husband is being taken advantage of.  We don't know what kind of financial problems they may be in or that maybe they have kids and can't afford the things those children need in order to provide for a child that is not his.  And then theirs Maria's new husband? oh how wonderful a man he is for being there to pick up the pieces that Enrique left behind...not.  He may be a good role model and want to adopt this girl but guess what he wants to do it out of the goodness of his hear he knows full well what he is getting into...Enrique did not have that choice offered to him he was deceived into thinking that he was the father when he really wasn't.  So yes lets applaud him for wanting to adopt the girl and do the right thing but at the same time lets not forget that he is making an informed decision.  and DR. PHIL FIND A NEW WAY TO PAY THE BILLS AND CUT DOWN ON THE COMMERCIALS!

Sad Situation

There are many adults who behaved poorly in this situation.  Infidelity, abandonment, deceit, thoughtlessness are just a few of the breeches in decent human conduct.  Still, I think there was one person who was not adequately reprimanded.  Why, oh why, did wife #2 feel it was her job to straighten out the relationships in Enrique's first marriage?  I don't care if she was correct in her "intuition;" this was none of her business.  Who was served?  There was nothing about the expression on Enrique's face that said he was happy about his estrangement from Selina.  Did a larger bank balance justify all of this pain?  What were wife #2's motives?  How could anyone trust a woman who would encourage her new husband to abandon his child?  Although Selinda appears to be extraordinarily mature, there is nothing about this that is in her best interest.  Was the saving of child support money worth such hurt?  Being "right" just isn't all it's cracked up to be when the tender hearts of children are at stake.  Selinda is an impressive young lady, in spite of the fact that the adults in her life behaved very badly.

Are You Kidding Me?

I just watched this show and am wondering - what state are these people in????  Are you kidding me?  My husband is the father of 3 girls all by different moms.  Okay, yes a scary thought, but the last mother not only kept the paternity from my husbdand for 5 years, she sprung it up on him, got a DNA test and now he has to pay child support for a daughter he doesn't even know!!!!   The man she put on the birth certificate pays nothing!!!!  I have to tell you that I was real dumb (that is for all the women who are thinking about marrying a man with more than ONE child), but  I married this man anyway.  I think the mother in all of this - in my life and on the show - is a real criminal.  How come she has no criminal charges against her?  She is the one who was deceitful - hello?  Gloria the lawyer is a real trip.  I wish she were married to a man that had this happen to him.  She would scream a whole different battle if she were.  My husband was getting paid $60,000.00 a year - not much but a pretty good salary in Florida.  Only to give $40,000.00 a year away to his daughters.  How is a man supposed to live on $20,000.00 a year?  Having a baby is supposed to mean that you can no longer live?  What gives?  Was the "Play-Daddy" wrong for stopping the visitation?  Yes, he was.  Was he stupid by making the child pay for the Mom's crime?  Yes.  I still ask - what is the Mother's punishment?  Feeling bad while she takes her ex-husband's money?  Poor HER!  Put her in a room with me for 30 minutes.  She will come out giving back all of the money she took from her ex.  She will also reveal who the real Daddy is and get HIM on child-support.    Furthermore, put me in the room with the "Play-Daddy"  He will not take any of the money back and will still volunteer to take care of the girl he THOUGHT was his daughter as long as her mother pays some sort of price.  She should not get away with this.  Not at all.  But I say this to all women in South Florida - "STAY AWAY FROM ALL MEN WITH MORE THAN ONE CHILD - NO MATTER HOW MUCH YOU LOVE THEM!!!!  LOVE WILL NOT PAY THE BILLS, BUT GIRLFRIEND, YOU WILL!!!!"   Just so you know, Florida takes 60% of the man's income.  I know there are some deadbeat Dads, but with 60% of their check going away, can you blame them?  Are you kidding me?

Blinded by selfishness

Enrique's new wife obviously has no children!  What type of a person would initiate such pain towards her husband and his child - only one who has no interest in the child's welfare.  Yes, Maria is to blame for allowing this to go on this far but now the child carries the pain, guilt and all because this manipulative "new wife" felt the daughter did not resemble the dad.  He should have been man enough to stand up to his new wife and represent his child, defend his child from anyone willing to cause or inflict pain on his innocent child - The pain caused by his new wife.  He's spineless and doesn't deserve to be called dad by any child!  He is not a victim, he relinquished that title when he decided to hurt the child he helped raise for 10 years.  He is an adult and responsible for his stupid actions and should not be allowed to play with this child's emotions.  He is obviously and shamelessly only interested in the ceasing of child support payments because if he truly cared about this child he would not care whether this child was his or not because he was secured with the fact that he loves this child, he raised her and that should have been all the proof he needed.

And as for Mr. Carnell Smith (Mens right Advocate)-  good thing he wasn't that child's father.  I am embarrassed by this man's behavior and I am a woman.  He needs to represent only himself and not other men because there are men who don't care whether they are the "blood" fathers-they choose to be involved in the child's life and a DNA test will not change anything for them.  His behavior on this show projects a man never involved as a parent and obviously doesn't care about the innocent child only themselves. He's a legend in his own mind!!

The Parent Trap/Welfare

I find it very ironic that the Atty. Gloria  Allred  herself  a high profile counsel; and an advocate for Feminist issues condone men who are not the father to still continue pay child support for a child thats not his. If she makes that argument then why is American whining and complaining about Welfare reform. Isnt it not the same thing. Welfare is the country paying for a child thats not ours. Its the same concept in my opinion.  Also when it comes to DNA. Why not get the truth. DNA has been used to exonerate people WRONGFULLY convicted for murders and rapes that they didnt convict. Why should the greatest country in the world condone making a man pay child support for a child he didnt father. I applaud Mr. Smith, and his cause and the age old adage originated from the good book the BIBLE.  " The truth will set you free."

My two cents sales tax.
