(Original Air Date: 11/01/07) Dr. Phil explores a disturbing trend: Female teachers engaging in sex acts with their underage male students. The number of accusations has doubled in the past five years. You've probably heard of famous cases like Mary Kay Letourneau, and Debra LaFave and the recent case of a teacher in Southern California, Meredith Johnson Vincent, who was arrested on suspicion of having a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old boy. Dr. Phil meets one teacher who has chosen to fight back. Joelle Ogletree was a respected high school French teacher until she was accused of sexual misconduct by three of her students. Find out what goes through a mother's head as she faces 160 years in prison. Plus, the Dr. Phil show speaks with one of the boys who says the sexual improprieties absolutely did happen and claims he passed a polygraph examination. When he agrees to take another test for Dr. Phil, what do his answers reveal? Joelle has been banned from even volunteering at her daughter's school because of the accusations. Should she be allowed back in the classroom? Watch and decide: Do you believe her ... or her students? Tell us what you think!

Find out what happened on the show.

Correction

Quote From: lifeslikethat

Im from Australia I believe the Australia and American judicial system is out of step with reality and the real world. Judges need to get in touch with reality. Especially in Australian because their not elected to the bench here, they dont know whats it like living in the real world. 160 years for a woman fooling around, its just as bad as the Nigerian government when they tried to kill a Muslim lady for committing adultery. Is it me, or is the united state government sexiest, and hypocritical. When the lady from Nigeria was going to be stoned to death there was up roar. 160 for statutory rape, or what ever you want to call it is weird to say the least. I was reading a weekly magazine just yesterday that in Australia a lady got a 15 month suspended sentences for sexually molesting a 14-15 year old boy. If it were a man he would have gotten a jail sentence.

Two civilized western countries on two different pages. One thinks its ok for a lady to have sex with a minor and another thinks it worse than a man molesting his daughter. Its disgraceful and pathetic.

It reminds me of judge who stated some 11 years ago, no means maybe, maybe means yes and yes means you aint no lady.

Its time the judicial system woke up to itself, in Australian courtroom the victim isnt even referred to by there name, there referred to as the victim. It hide time that victim were allowed to voice there emotional feelings rather than just of an account of what happened to them, there treated like witnesses rather than victim who in the case of sexual assault, their lives have forever changed.

I read your comments and I truly agree with it, but I just wanted to correct the notion that it was the Nigerian government that tried to kill a lady for committing adultery.
A Nigerian here.  The incidence happened in one of the northern federating states in Nigeria who adopted Sharia Islamic laws which has several obnoxious laws like stoning an adulterer to death. It was not the federal govt that sanctioned the stoning, but that state govt. Just like one state here in the US legalising gay marriage while another state wont, even though we are in the same country, It will be somewhat wrong to say the US govt legalised gay marriage.

Innocent until proven quilty beyond a doubt

I believe the evidence presented so far confirms that the teacher is the one telling the truth.  She is fighting for her good name to be restored and by default the good name and reputation of her family.  If she didn't stand up for herself, she would admit that there was some truth to these accusations.  Some students will try anything for a prank, for revenge, and any other crazy reason.  Teachers have to be so careful and they have to maintain a visible wall of respect between themselves and their students at all times that cannot be crossed.  The school board is worried sick that they will have to pay damages to this teacher, and they should if the evidence is in her favor.

Are all men/ boys icky?

Quote From: birdsalsowalk

Makin' out with your high school French teacher....mmmm...mmmm.mmmm

Now there's a teenage boy's wet dream come true!

And she's really hot, too!   I'll bet that after she dumped her big-belly clothes for her pre-pregnant wear that they thought she was just doing it for them....personally  Oh boy-O-boy!

Can you imagine their pubescent little fantasies... French teacher at her desk...hand up her skirt...clumsily touching each other like...like -- well, LIKE A 14 YEAR OLD's FANTASY about his hot, young, high school French teacher.

You know, if she had actually come on to these boys, she would have taught them a bit more about mature sexuality, not some boy-virgin's imagined fumbling around in the panties day masturbational fantasy.  If she had really had sex with these young self-proclaimed studs, they'd have some really good stories to tell.

I can't believe anyone bought this.

Hmmm.....maybe the men on the school board had their own little sexual fantasies about her.  Oh Ms. French teacher!  Heck, maybe the women did too.  I mean, she's really hot, right?

After all, hot women are to blame..  I mean, they're askin' for it, right?  They should all dress like cold-war Russian potato farmers just to keep the men from being tempted.  They should wear clothing that covers their bodies.  And that sexy, flowing, long hair -- she needs to wear it up in a tight little bun.....mmmm...tight little buns....no! cross that out -- she should wear something to cover her hair up completely!  A scarf maybe...

I got it!  She should wear a head to toe burka -- like those women in Afghanistan.

Yep, that's the solution.

I saw an ex in a restaurant window, after that I was followed by, more than half a dozen perverts. What kind of men would believe horrible stories about women they don't know and what kind of man would follow a women (more than once). My conclusion is men who if they are not a rapist  or pervert, at least have NO respect for women. What did they expect me to do?. Pull over and say, "howdy butt ugly redneck, lets get it on". GAG, barf bags need to come installed in cars too. Oh ya, I'm in redneck country, Oregon City, OR. Watch your backs grls.

School Board Hysteria

As a former President of my School Board it is necessary to say that I feel this Board is acting shamefully.  I told my husband when Dr. Phil was about to read their statement, "Wait here comes a bunch of legalese most of which will be mumbo-jumbo, dance around the subject and keep their butts as clean as possible junk!"  Sure enough, that is exactly what was read.  From the start of this fiasco the Board of Ed and school officials acted inappropriately.  For starters, those students should have NEVER been questioned together.  What was up with that?  Why don't you just do the high school version of show and tell so they can really copy each other.  That was a joke.  If you want the truth, you always divide, separate and conquer.  That is.....if you really want the truth.  The problem most likely would have been eradicated right from the start if they had only followed that simple procedure.  If the School Board thinks that they will save face by continuing this witch hunt, they are sadly mistaken.  This will only come back to haunt them come election time.  Odds are their School Board days are over and with good reason.  As a Trustee you have the awesome responsibility to do what is in the best interest for the students, the teachers, and the overall level of education delivered.  Their job is to investigate, hold hearings, if necessary, and get to the truth of all matters, especially ones as severe as these.  I've dealt with it all, including sex offenders.  It can be extremely difficult to discern what is true or false.  I know we, as a Board, always did what was right by all.  I can look myself in the mirror each day with no regrets about yesterday.  This Board of Ed might be so lucky.  Maybe they should go back to school!

Another point...

Quote From: diannevre

I was a bit surprised when Dr. Phil stated that he was surprised that the teacher did not show more emotion because she was falsely accused.  He thought she should be "mad".  I think that after all the initial embarrassment, then 2 criminal indictments, then a criminal case that ended in mistrial, then a civil case that exonerated her, not to mention the loss of her job and the inability to volunteer for her children's' classes, and now to add insult to injury, having to sue the School Board.....I truly feel that this woman is PAST MAD.  Sometimes in life when you are bombarded by numerous traumatic events, you go through cycles that take you from humiliation, to fear, to anger, to outrage, etc. etc.  I just think that at this time in the process this lady is answering questions like an attorney because she is now in a position to take the high road and just state the facts as she knows them which is exactly what an attorney would do.  I think she acted totally appropriately and look forward to the resolution of this matter on tomorrow's show.

Another thing everyone is missing about this teacher is this point: She VOLUNTEERED to be on the show!

Personally, if I was in her place and guilty, I don't think I'd have the guts to appear on international television and proclaim I was innocent with a straight face. I think it took incredible courage to come on tv and make a stand for herself like she did, and that says a lot to me about her innocence.

Of course, there are those who can come on TV and tell a load of lies, and there are those who only have the guts to tell their lies over the phone - I will be most interested to watch the body language of the young man who's going to be on tomorrow to face Mrs. Ogletree. From what I saw in the previews, he's never looking anyone in the eye when he speaks, and Mrs. Ogletree looked Dr. Phil straight in the eye the whole time today. As a former Speech Communications teacher, one of our areas of learning is how to spot non-verbal cues, and for lying there are such things as inability to look someone in the eyes while speaking, tugging at your ear, fidgeting with clothes, etc. I'll be watching him like a HAWK.

"The USA government sexist, and hypocritical",  Oh you bet, with Bush in control, we might as well have retarded flying monkees in charge. Small towns are slow to change, I think most people would be happy to see thier women in burka's or chasity belts. ACK!.

I don't know for sure what is the truth.  I have a hard time dealing with the fact these boys made this up and have ruined another persons life.  I am really hoping someone can step forward and just tell the truth so all of these people can go on with their lives.  Or at least start to.

I Hope....

I hope she is not guilty. I don't understand women who would want to have sex with a boy. They are undeveloped nit wits with pimples. Whats the turn on for the women?, men with no stuble or are not old enough to shave.  I've always heard males are up for anything no matter what age, real horn dogs. Is this true?. I'm not talking about pediophiles, who prey on children, just the horn dogs. I'm a girl so I have no idea. Another question, wht do men think it's ok to make comments or have sex with underage girls, does that mean they are more manly??.  ...must go barf...sorry

Double Standards

It  enrages me that culture and our legal system, react in the way they do.  If this had been a male with female students, the public would be much more in a rage and panic over this. Though  I do believe she is innocent, I have no right to actually judge. She was the one there and the kids that is it.  The obvious evidence of the double standard lies in the amount of post about this and what they say.  I agree they are truthful  and stereo types are real. It is a simple fact that  genders have different personalities. Boys will be boys and girls will be girls. Our legal system  has tried to level the playing field, with the women's movement. This simply goes against nature. Now the legal system is very hostile towards men. Domestic violence laws, restraining orders, divorce, child abuse, and rape do happen and are horrible, but to leave accused individuals with almost no way to defend themselves, legal fees that most cant afford, competent representation, and the presumption of guilt  without solid evidence, has left men wide open for  vindictive accusations from wives and children. In this environment it is no wonder the institution of marriage is in shambles. Men have been reduced to nothing more than their wallets and  thought of  as sperm donors. Ever wonder why men go to the red light district or have affairs? Doesn't make it right, but it sure is a far better thing than to  join the ranks, of cruel tactics to win at all cost!
