(Original Air Date: 11/01/07) Dr. Phil explores a disturbing trend: Female teachers engaging in sex acts with their underage male students. The number of accusations has doubled in the past five years. You've probably heard of famous cases like Mary Kay Letourneau, and Debra LaFave and the recent case of a teacher in Southern California, Meredith Johnson Vincent, who was arrested on suspicion of having a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old boy. Dr. Phil meets one teacher who has chosen to fight back. Joelle Ogletree was a respected high school French teacher until she was accused of sexual misconduct by three of her students. Find out what goes through a mother's head as she faces 160 years in prison. Plus, the Dr. Phil show speaks with one of the boys who says the sexual improprieties absolutely did happen and claims he passed a polygraph examination. When he agrees to take another test for Dr. Phil, what do his answers reveal? Joelle has been banned from even volunteering at her daughter's school because of the accusations. Should she be allowed back in the classroom? Watch and decide: Do you believe her ... or her students? Tell us what you think!

Find out what happened on the show.

11/01 Teacher Sex Scandal, Pt. 1

Quote From: nymenche

Duke University was also torn apart when a far too willing District Attorney pursued charges on less than credible evidence.  The justice system is far from perfect, especially when small town gossip meets small town poltics.

But even at the national level the results of false allegations are just as disasterous.  Or as former Secretary of Labor Ray  Donovan asked after being  acquitted of fraud and larceny charges,  "Which office do I go toto get my reputation back?

YES - and when a case is dropped it means there isn't one!

As per Barbara Bush... A man may forget a lot of things but never his first (or last) blow job...

That kid is lying thru his teeth.  he stated that he was either 14 or 15 when it happened... hummm men NEVER forget the first time they have had sex!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That is exactly what I thought!!

Serious Stuff

I am a new high School teacher (2 yrs), only 24 years old, however I have been told by everyone including some students that I look about 15.  I try to dress as professionally as I can, but when students or even adults come to my class that don't know me, they look around for the teacher, even when I am the one that opens the door for them.  This whole topic of teachers being inappropriate with their students or the students accusing teachers of such, is discerning.  When people find out I am a teacher (apparently because I look so young), a frequent "joke" is, "I better not see you on the news with one of your students".  It's frustrating that I have a stereotype that follows me being a young teacher because of other people's poor choices, but what is frightening for me is the idea that a student(s) could accuse me of being inappropriate and could ruin my life and career even though the charges would be unfounded.  The teacher on today's show made some poor choices, meeting with the students alone and having a student in her car...

I take all the precautions I can to protect myself, but all it would take is one student getting mad at me or something and coming up with a story and then getting some friends together to corroborate the story, and my life would forever be changed.  That is just not OK.  Teaching is the most rewarding thing I have ever done in my life and watching my students graduate allowed me to fully understand the meaning of being proud of someone.  But hearing stories like this one and realizing that one TEENAGER could alter my life and jeopardize my career, when I have done absolutely nothing wrong, sometimes makes me question if it's worth it.

The truth is important

I think it is both appauling and disusting for a teacher in a position of power to have sex with a student (Male or female!)  But I think finding out the truth is the first order of business!

That little jerk was obviously lying thru his teeth!  I doubt he realizes how serious the consequences are!!!  Her life has been nearly ruined... her quality of life diminished... her reputation trashed... her financial status bleak.

I say, throw the book at her if she's guilty!!!  Sue the pants off those boys and their parents if she isn't.  Scary to think that a moody teenagers lie could cause so much heartache!

I so Agree With You

Quote From: jpartlow

I feel Dr Phil was hard on the teacher in the beginning by saying she was not showing emotion regarding the young man's statement.  A look at her face showed anger and tears behind her eyes and you could see her hurt and anger.  She was trying to be composed and professional and NOT say ugly comments about the young man. Dr Phil read this as not showing emotion. I was disappointed with his analysis of this.
My thoughts exactly, if that had been a man sitting in the chair would have Dr. Phil said why aren't you crying?  He couldn't get past the fact she was strong and she is standing upright for the truth......Children and mental health?????.....let's look into what families, school systems and villages hide about mental health.  She is so innocent - I do hope that school district has to pay her lots of $'s.

Double standard

I totally beleive the teacher on this one. teenage boys must always outdo their friends, and I am willing to bet this is how this started. the teacher may have been alittle flirty, but she did not do what these boys dreamed up. She is in for  a nice payday, It is just a shame that yaxpayers money is going to pay for the stupidity of this school board.

What I really want to point out on this issue is double standards. At the beginning of this show, it said that this teacher was facing up to 160 years of prison time. What a joke! My exwife was convicted in 2002

of having sex with a 13 and 14 year old boy, that wre on the my son's baseball team that i coached. She recieved 3 years probation, no jailtime whatsoeve, she was 44 years old at the time. If I had had sex with a 13 and 14 year old girl, do you think I would have gotten only 3 years probation,? Hell no, I bet I would still be in prison for at least 10 more years. The double standards that exist on this issue really piss me off!!

Wrongfully Accused

Now don’t get me wrong…I know the leading profession of choice for pedophiles is teaching according to the FBI’s reviews of NAMBLA! I was once touched inappropriately by a teacher when I was a freshman in High School. I would like to see all pedophiles in the teaching profession or any other profession (walk of life) put in prison for life! In this teachers case it sounds like she has been wrongfully accused and perhaps she needs to have a civil suit against her accusers for defamation.

? for Dr Phil

I think it would be wonderful if Joelle could sue the parents of these kids, but I don't think that is possible. The kids were under age at the time. Dr. Phil, what is the law in this matter?
