(Original Air Date: 11/01/07) Dr. Phil explores a disturbing trend: Female teachers engaging in sex acts with their underage male students. The number of accusations has doubled in the past five years. You've probably heard of famous cases like Mary Kay Letourneau, and Debra LaFave and the recent case of a teacher in Southern California, Meredith Johnson Vincent, who was arrested on suspicion of having a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old boy. Dr. Phil meets one teacher who has chosen to fight back. Joelle Ogletree was a respected high school French teacher until she was accused of sexual misconduct by three of her students. Find out what goes through a mother's head as she faces 160 years in prison. Plus, the Dr. Phil show speaks with one of the boys who says the sexual improprieties absolutely did happen and claims he passed a polygraph examination. When he agrees to take another test for Dr. Phil, what do his answers reveal? Joelle has been banned from even volunteering at her daughter's school because of the accusations. Should she be allowed back in the classroom? Watch and decide: Do you believe her ... or her students? Tell us what you think!

Find out what happened on the show.

11/01 Teacher Sex Scandal, Part 1

Quote From: michelle212

There might be the odd truly innocent teenage boy in this part of the world, but because of TV and movies, MOST teenage boys are DYING to have sex sex sex, and they would LOVE it if a beautiful experienced woman wanted to teach them the ropes.  They love it!  They want it!  They only start crying about it when their Mom finds out and tells them that they must act all traumatized about it so they can get some money by suing the school or the teacher.  There isn't one normal healthy teenage boy who will be permanently traumatized by a lovely older woman teaching him how to be a man.  They want it!  They all want sex, and they know it's better with an experienced older woman.  (Rather than trying to beg their little 14-year-old girl friends to do it.) They aren't traumatized in any way, they want MORE, and they want to tell all their friends about it.  It's the greatest thing in their lives, until Mom steps in and ruins it.  I agree that teachers shouldn't take advantage of innocent kids who don't want it -- but MOST teenage boys would LOVE to have it!  the more the better!!  Do you remember that episode in the show Soap, where Billy Tate's teacher seduces him?  It's a mutual attraction, and the next morning Billy cannot shut up about it.  He says it's like discovering America, he's so thrilled, he can't imagine why everybody doesn't have sex all the time.  He says it's the greatest thing ever in the universe.  I believe that MOST teenage boys feel this way!  They love and want sex all the time -- who better to give it to them than a lovely older woman.  They aren't traumatized by it, they LOVE it and want more.  Their Moms may be traumatized about it, but the boys sure aren't!  Come on!

I agree

06/12 Teacher Sex Scandal, Part 1

It's discusting and there should be longer prison time for all of them.  It seems when it happens to young girls by older men they are the victims; but when it happens to young men by older women the boy's are considered lucky, Throw the book at them.  Enough of this!

An X teacher

The teaching profession has changed and it did so during the period of time when I was involved in one way or the other with the teaching profession.  There was a time when a hurt and needy child could expect a hug from a caring teacher.  There was a time when a teacher could expect parents to support efforts to discipline a child and assists the teacher and child in the educational process.  My experience in the last 3 years of my teaching career were anything but.  I assisted or taught junior high LDBD in a upwardly mobile, highly educated community.  Our staff leaders made it very clear to us, as teachers, that we must hold ourselves above all suspicion with strict warnings to not touch students in any way.  This means you cannot hug a child who has a good day or happy event.  You cannot hug a child who is having a bad day and feels unloved at that moment or maybe unloved period.  You cannot report a child  after observing him/her buying or selling drugs for fear of a negative/defensive parental reaction. If a charge or suggestion of a charge is brought up against a teacher, it is the teacher who is assumed wrong and not a disgruntled child or  over-reactive parent. So lets investigate before we release charges to the hungry muck raking press.

I certainly do not support teachers who abuse their  rights and responsibilities as educators but I also do not believe that all of a sudden we have a rash of young or middle aged women praying on the innocents of 14 year old boys.  Lets start with lie detectors and DNA, if we have it,  before we go parading down the street spreading false accusations about teachers. They just might be innocent.

Give me a brake!

I think that some of these teachers are just being harassed by these boy just to see what will happen to that teacher. How can a person recover from a false statement like that? That can ruin a teachers career, because it(even if it is not true) will follow them for the rest of there life. As far as I am concerned 14 year old boys are growing up in a different times. There is to much exposure to violence, nudity, and a total disregard for life in general weather it's human or animal. And absolutely no respect for any one of authority

Authority figures

Saw this saw some time back, and from the body language and details of both involed some type of relationship did happen between the teacher and the student. The former stundent however more vindictive that she broke it off.

I hate to judge before all the facts are in, but I am sure the Teacher led him on with simple gestures that she didn't didn't know was turning on the young lad like light switch.  That is when she should have cut off the relationship.

Her teaching career is pretty much toast unless she goes abroad.  Her husband should have dumped her as well but she is very pretty and he looks heck of dorky and old so naturally he forgave her or believed her story.

Just too many loose ends in this story that Dr. Phil did not examine.

sick o's like michelle212

I think it sexual abuse on a child and why would a grown up even want to have sex with a kid. You have to be a real sick human being to abuse a kid or even think about . They should all go to prison and rot in there. Because the kid will have to live with that the rest of his life. How can a kid turn on an adult? You people are sick and its sad that us parents can't even trust a teacher anymore..

Presumed guilty

I didn't see this show when it first aired. First, the fact that one of the students ia a so-called "Christian," cuts no ice with me in terms of his credibility. Bush is allegedly a Christian and he has no credibility whatever, in fact, pathological liar is probably a more apt description. Secondly, school guidance counselors, who obviously have no training in investigation or appropriate interrogation, have no business being involved. Her questioning the boys together, instead of separately, screwed up the case from the beginning. Dr. Phil's questioning her  (the teacher's) demeanor, as to why she wasn't upset when she heard the allegations over the telephone from the boy, didn't surprise me. She had heard these allegations before and had been living with them for some time. If this was a new allegation, or she hadn't heard any of them before, I'm sure her demeanor would have been extremely different. Finally, the school board's actions in refusing to tell her who her accusers were or the specifics of the allegations, are such a basic denial of due process as to be shocking in this day and age. The fact is there are predatory teachers and our children must be protected from them. There are also, however, false accusations that ruin lives of those accused and if you make the allegations shocking enough they are believed simply because of the nature of the allegations. Anyone remember the McMartin pre-school case?
