(Original Air Date: 11/02/07) Dr. Phil continues his look at a teacher sex scandal that has a school and families divided in a small town in Texas. High school teacher Joelle Ogletree faces accusations of sexual misconduct with some of her male students. Joelle claims she's completely innocent but reluctantly agrees to face Matt, one of her accusers, in person. When Dr. Phil drills down into the details of the case, it's her word against his. Matt maintains that when Joelle was his high school French teacher, she came on to him. He says that as a student he received sexually explicit notes from her, but that the notes were written in code. See the encrypted messages and judge for yourself: Are they provocative or harmless? Then hear how Joelle and Matt interpret them. Plus, Matt agreed to take a polygraph test and have the results reviewed by an independent examiner. Find out what the test reveals and how Matt reacts when he hears them read aloud, as he sits face to face with Joelle. Hear both sides of this gripping sex scandal from the accuser and the accused, and judge for yourself if justice has been served. Share your thoughts, join the discussion.

Find out what happened on the show.

Yes, BUT...

Quote From: gregkamp

This from a former  female student.

Did this student's brother come up with this "incident" before or after the accusations had been made?

It's very easy for young boys to say, "oh yeah, me too. She did X..."

Untruthful

I personally believe that theses boys got together and made up this lie and noe the teacher has to pay for it, sexual abuse is a horrible and very damaging allegation to make, it's been quite a few years if the prosecution thought they had a case why did they ask for a mistrial and why haven't they retried her? This womans life has been turned updside down she can't even volunteer @ her childs school because of this I think if the law says inoccent until proven guilty we all need to adhere to that and not condemn this woman before then, and allow her to live her life as the law abiding citizen the law and govt. should see her as!!

11/02 Teacher Sex Scandal, Pt. 2

Quote From: aryianut

I usually know what side I believe at the end of these shows, but on this one I am confused.

My opinions just from how they acted, the teacher seemed to be being deceptive while the student seemed honest. She didn't give him any eye contact while he maintained eye contact almost throughout. She also seemed to side step quite a bit. As far as the boy hemming and hawing as one writer pointed out, I don't think that shows guilt. How can anyone judge how someone is SUPPOSED to act on a television show with Dr. Phil? This wasn't a private session or anything. It was in front of hundreds of people.

As far as the lie detector test goes, there is a reason why these are NOT admissable in court. It's because they are unreliable. Why would one test show he was being honest and the next show he was lying if they were reliable?

I'd like to hear more about this case in the future.

On a side note, I never miss the show!

When you become an adult is so hard to lie , becuase your brain is aware of right or wrong. so when you lie, the brain act conversely.

Beside, I could see the teacher was totally helpless who was tired to beg or cry. she was there becuase it was her last hope or last chance to get her life back, I could see how much she hated matt and she could look at him and cryyyyyyyyyyyyy And she didn't want to !

However, God knows at the end.

Naive

Quote From: lisaspur

This is absolutely ridiculous.  I, too, believe that these boys are lying, with them it seems the cool thing to do.  Ruining someones life just because they are ashamed to admit it did not happen is unexcusable.

When abuse happens stories do not change, people remember every minscule thing that happened, almost as if it is being lived again each time they tell it.  These boys can't keep a straight face or story.  Saying they are just now coming forward because they have cousins, neices and nephews getting ready to go to that school is a bunch of bull.  Blaming the teacher for keeping it going is so wrong, she's only keeping it going so she can clear her name.

I am not naive, we all know this has happened many times before, this time I just don't think it did.

What is the relationship with the parents like?  Did the kids not feel like they could go to them when this supposedly happened?  I have heard that victims are ashamed and won't usually tell, but these kids never said they had been threatened if they told so why didn't they?

I have a middle schooler who will be in high school next year, an elementary schooler who will be in middle school and one still in elementary school, I tell them repeatedly, if someone hurts, touches or threatens you no matter what the person says about what will happen if you tell, hurt your brothers/sisters, parents or you, you tell us anyway.  We are the adults and we will handle it, that's what we are here for, kids are never meant to handle adult situations or make adult decisions.  Tell no matter what!!!!  I hope if, GOD forbid, this ever happens to our children, they trust us enough to tell.

Yes you are naive I suggest you go talk to your children. Remember, the Catholic priests. Also, most parents know their child's rapist.

Not all children are innocent!

I was a foster parent for many years and I know that kids will lie to get attention.  Yes, even about sexual abuse.  It's sad, because we fought for years for children to come forward and tell when someone acts inappropriate with them.  Sometimes the pendulum swings to far the opposite direction now.

IMHO I feel these boys have allowed a fantasy of theirs to get so out of hand that there is no turning back from it now.  Perhaps when they grow up a little more they will make amends to this teacher and I hope the teacher is vindicated.  It is sicking what has happened to her and her family's life.

Dr. Phil, I so love you and most of the time think you are right on with your advice, but I think you missed it with the teacher's attitude.  This just didn't happen yesterday.  She's been going through this for 6 years.  I could sense the anger there but I'm sure she has moved beyond the emotional part of it by now.  But hey, even you are allowed to goof once in awhile.  That's why you have us as back ups.  LOL!

Memories

Matt can't remember something that happened 5 or 6 years ago in reference to a sexual experience? What a load of crap!

I was molested by an uncle at the age of 8. Thirty years later, I can still tell you about the smell in the room, the colors of the stains on the wall and the taste of ejaculate in my mouth.

Victims don't forget! Matt was proved a liar, should be tried for perjury and Joelle should sue him for defamation of character.

Let's see how he would like being faced with a jail term.

You are correct!

Had there been anything to the allegations the D.A. would have picked it up and prosecuted her regardless.  That is his job.  He didn't.

11/02 Teacher Sex Scandal, Pt. 2

Quote From: will6012

Please. They were 15 year old children. Is a 15 year old girl who is said to be more mature horny, when she accuses a male teacher of rape? We are talking about rape. A child can not consent
Sorry, but these boys weren't raped.  I know that 15 is still considered a child, but come on...they were 15 and 16, not 7.  The issue isn't the fact that  it is a female teacher with male students accusing her, instead of a male teacher with female students accusing him.  The issue is that the accuser is lying, weather male or female.  It would be just as wrong if a female was lying about her male teacher engaging in sexual acts with her.- True, it  would be taken more seriously, no doubt,  but thats the unfortunate way our society works.  It doesn't mean it's right.  Besides, my enrty had nothing to do with the fact that because they are male accusers, they shouldn't be taken seriously. Thats not where I was going with that at all and I think that was clear. Male or female- if you are lying about such serious accusations, you are wrong.

Absolutely

Quote From: flowerme

I think you should guide this Teacher in pursuing action against these boys and show students that this type of act is unacceptable and that they have disrupted her family's life  horrible. I can understand her emotions and reactions ,she has gone threw the trauma and emotional years of it and I am sure she is Strong and cautious about every word being said and listening so carefully that she has to put her emotions aside.AND SHE WAS NOT FOUND GUILTY SO.......Those boys have told this lie so long I think they honestly believe this happened. Now that is sick

Vicki

MEDINA,OHIO

I agree with everything you say.  It is not okay that they have done this to her.  Why should they get away with it?  They should be charged and held accountable, along with their parents.  Maybe they all need to do some "community service".

Judicial System

Quote From: fiverblessed

Why do people keep saying she was found Not Guilty?? This woman was LUCKY enough to have a mistrial and this being such a SMALL town--none of us know what led to that boy dropping his charges and recanting--or the influence that Joelle's own family may have or could have played a part in that boy recanting--who knows...but I think she was VERY lucky it was a mistrial...and she is now trying to capitalize on it--I think it would have been best to  be quiet and let it go instead of try to make a buck off of it--especially given that she is SOOOO NOOOOT INNOCENT in this....She is her own worst enemy in this case--the boys might not be able to prove she did it with their lie detector tests but Joelle gives herself away and it's CLEAR. I would not have that woman in my child's Sunday school class MUCH LESS in his classroom--she is a predator and probably the town hoochie mama and I think she thrives on that type of attention. DR PHIL WHY DID YOU NOT QUESTION HER RELATIONSHIP WITH HER OWN HS TEACHER?? THEY MARRIED WITHIN 1 YEAR OF HER GRADUATION.

WHY WERE THERE SUCH DOUBLE STANDARDS ON THIS SHOW---WHY WOULD ANYONE BE ALLOWED TO SIT UP THERE, WHEN THEIR CREDIBILITY IS SO OBVIOUSLY LACKING AND THEN CALL THE SHOTS ABOUT NOT TAKING A LIE DETECTOR TEST...She treated the audience like idiots--expecting everyone to take her at face value and trust what she is saying--and she spoon fed lies--obviously--she was DEFINITELY lying about what those codes meant and even Dr. Phil pointed out that, her explanation of what they meant wouldn't make sense for someone that's has also taught English--she taught English and French.

For those that support her sooo whole heartedly, invite her to teach at your child's school--she won't teach at mine--I'd move my kids if she were hired on.

SICK SICK SICK and I wish Dr. Phil had taken charge and not let her call the shots.

If there had been anything to the allegations the local D.A. would have picked it up immediately and prosecuted her.  He didn't.
