From a celebrity’s controversial meltdown caught on tape to nooses cropping up around the country, Dr. Phil and Bishop T.D. Jakes tackle tough racial issues. First up, Dog the Bounty Hunter spewed slurs in a phone conversation with his son, Tucker, and used the N-word repeatedly when referring to Tucker’s black girlfriend, Monique. Monique’s mother, Linda Shinnery, joins the Dr. Phil show via satellite and says she was appalled by Dog’s tirade. Should the reality TV star lose his job over a private conversation? Civil rights activist Al Sharpton, rapper Master P, and BET correspondent Jeff Johnson weigh in. Then, nooses, a symbol of hatred for African-Americans, are cropping up more and more across the country – from Jena, Louisiana to Columbia University in New York. Najee Ali, founder and co-director of Project Islamic Hope, shares his views on empowering the black community and combating stereotypes. Don’t miss this intense debate about racism and sensitivity in America, and find out how you can educate your children. Join the discussion.

Give Dog a Break Will Ya???

I agree we "should" not use the "N" word and totally support that conviction however not everything in life is in black and white or wrong or right.  First of all Dog was in a private conversation and apparantly upset about his son's situation. (That is his business).  In the second place he made a freaking mistake people; is that so terribly hard to understand?  You think Dog is the only one who has made this particular mistake with his language?  There are many people who have done the same thing and these same people are NOT RACIST either.  Sometimes the media takes something and blows the whole thing out of the water and this is a perfect example.  So many black people call other black people the "N" word and you don't hear crap about that.  And for the black guy on the show who vows to never use the "N" word in his songs anymore?  Well wonder if he would be willing to pull those songs off the market and quit making money off of them?  The audiance laughed when mention was made of his filthy lyrics and yet Dog has a private conversation and gets his whold show suspended.  This makes me so angry; all the rotten crap going on in the world and the media wants to attact someone like Duane Chapman who truly has been an inspiration to so many people; weather they were/are a convict or not.  So he made a mistake, he apologized and I believe he means it.  Give him his show back; if not we all need to boycott A & E.  And as for Tucker, I hope he is proud of his self now.  I am sure (or at least hope) that hind sight has crept up on him by now.

Is Dr. Phil for real?

First of all, Dog was on Hannity & Colmes for two days prior, informing the public about everything that has happened.

Why was that not mentioned? Why does he have to come on Dr. Phil?

If anybody watched H&C, all questions would be answered.

This was clearly a biased show against Dog, he would have been hounded. It would have been better if it was a one-on-one interview without the other folks.

Master P had the nerve to say "I'm here, dog is not.." in reference to changing his life or whatever.

Listen Master P, I'm glad you got your applause after mentioning people need to see the "bigger picture" etc. Dog said the same thing and H&C and explained the ulterior motives of that girl and his son but, of course Dr. Phil will only bash him instead of mentioning or showing excerpts from H&C.

That girl has the nerve to try an sue him for slander after, her boyfriend sold the recording to the enquirer. That will not fly in court (on H&C).

Let Dog be folks, I truly feel he is sorry and all of this is taken out of context and that he is not a racist. Not one person who is offended or upset has room to talk. Everyone of you has done or said something that if found out of the general public, would put you in Dog's position. This goes for myself also.

Hell, his pastor is black and stands by Dog. Why? Because he knows that man personally and sees the pain and honesty in his eyes when he speaks.

I applaud the guy on stage with Master P who explained why his show should stay on the air.

Give him a second chance America.

Give me a Break

Dr. Phil, where was Chris Rock and Eddie Murphy on this show?  Were are the white people on this show?  Why were your first 6 or 7 audience reaction shots only black people?   You say that you don't think that this nor the Alec Baldwin's tape  should have been made public, but yet here you are promoting and going national to stir up more crap to gain ratings for you show.  Have you ever said anything racist or sexist in the privacy of your own home, I think so.  And you want to get Al Sharpton on your show again.  Has Al Sharpton ever stood up to protect the rights of any white people?  I doubt it.    Where was Al and Jesse when 6 black people carjacked, raped, tortured, and murdered the couple from Knoxville, TN.   We are talking about a guy, Al Sharpton, that was also arrested for conspiricy to launder cocaine money.  This is all Bull Crap and your show is turning into The Maury Show and approaching The Jerry Springer Show.  Guess your next show will be about school kids be expelled for playing the game, "Hangman".   I am sick of people taking everything as being racist.  Okay, you now want to put "Master P" up on a pedestal, because his ablum contains no racist references.  Have you listened to his past records or some of the many that he has produced, apparently not.  I here the "N" word 5 times a week and it is not coming out of the mouth of white people.  When the black community quit using this term, maybe you will not hear it from the white community anymore.  By the way,I do not approve of theuse of "N" word.  Black people hear a white person use this word and they act like it is the first time they have heard it in 40 years and run straight to Rev. Sharpton  and Rev. Jackson.    "Jesse, Al, did you hear want that white boy said.  Call me a lawyer" .  Geez, give me a break.

Why?

Why does it always have to be the black folk or the white folk?  Why can't we all just be folk and fight for the same things not our cultural issues?  Fight for freedom and fairness.  There is not equality on either side in this day in age.  Do you see a White college fund?   There are many poor, under priviledged white children.  I am not prejudice by no means -  Let's unite and become one nation with no color boundaries.

11/09 Debate Dr. Phil and the Bishop

Quote From: sahalu

Dog, when blacks use the name, it has a totally different meaning. When other people use it, it is meant to degrade you as a human being and to say, there's something less than human about you. My ex girl friend, who was black would once in a while call me the "N" name, but the meaning she has in mind is not what the bounty hunter had. The "N" word dehumanizes and makes it alright to view the person as some kind of animal.

That is the most redicuous comment I have ever heard, using that word means something different becasue a black person said it,  If someone said that to me I would not think it was cool or I was a better person because a black person called me the "N" word.  It is promoting a racial slure and it is allowing our kids to think that word is ok to use in society.

11/09 Debate Dr. Phil and the Bishop

I agree that the word should not be used by anyone. It's degrading! But it's only degrading when a white person says it? Who cares if you're an african american person saying it to another african american. The word has the exact same meaning no matter who you say it to. So if there is going to be all this Drama about the word, then the word needs to be removed from EVERYONES vocabulary. And it's just not white people doing it to african american's, they do the same with white people too by calling them "cracker". Honestly, we all need to just grow up, don't take things that people say to heart.  Take it with a grain of salt. There are always going to be people out there who says things we don't like. And the "N" word happens to be one of them.

As for Dog, i do believe that he needs to make a public apology. But then drop it. He's doing a whole lot of good. Taking people off the streets who don't need to be there. So maybe we all need to be a little more forgiving. Life is short, who really has all this time, to sit around a gripe about who said what.

Whites the racists?

Quote From: manassasmama

For one I do take offense to you blaming this all on "whites"... The blacks fuel the fire by playing the poor pity on me card my relitives were slaves...I havedated black guys and had a child by one of them .So by all means Feed the fire by blaming it all on the white people when all the rappers out there stop using the word then we can talk....And by all I mean even the white rappers
Grow the ^&*() up. Where do you come from? From my experience it is the Black americans who are racist.  I am so sick and tired of being called racist just becouse of my skin color.  If you don't like my skin color go to Africa, and live like them.

11/09 Debate Dr. Phil and the Bishop

What happened to privacy rights, or are right to free speech? We are still in America right? Dog was having a private conversation and this should not affect his professional life. I understand if he would have said these things on his show but he didn't and he apologized and I think it is ridiculous that he is suspended from the station. This matter should strictly be between dog and the other family who is involved. I believe Dr. Phil and everyone else  has not helped the situation but only fueled the fire and brought more attention to this subject.  I think it is ridiculous that Dr. Phil makes money by destroying other peoples live such as Dogs! If there were no people like Dr. Phil to fuel the fire this would not be as big of an issue as it is.

11/09 Debate Dr. Phil and the Bishop

Quote From: klpyle

Many people have different beliefs and prejudices whether they go around shouting them out to the world or not, just about everyone does deep down whether they're willing to admit it or not.  The problem lies in how and when they show them.  I have a real problem with the n word even though being raised by a purely southern family it was definitely thrown around a lot, but I can't stand it.  But I was also brought up to know that it can stand for white, black or what ever color.  It wasn't meant for a certain color of people, just a type.  I happen to really admire Beth and The Dog Chapman and the things that he has been able to accomplish with his life and the people that he has been able to help.  I don't believe that he has left prejudision affect his job or his ability to perform his job or to help others in any way.  So why would a PRIVATE conversation that he deemed to be private and not public, affect his professional life?  I just don't feel that is right.  What if you said something in the privacy of your home to your spouse and someone was taping it without your knowledge and it got you fired, would that be right?  It leads to the same thing and to the same constitutional rights.  He had an expectation of privacy while he was talking and I have to admit some of my own likes and dislikes come out when I'm talking about my neighbors come out when I'm in my home, my safe zone too.  They're comparing him to the idiot Don what ever his name is that's on the radio and was fired, which by the way got back his job, that said all of that crap on the radio purposely.  He said it on purpose, he meant for everyone to hear it and had no expectation of privacy.  There's a big difference and there's no way you can compare the two.  So every one should leave the Chapman's alone, acknowledge them for the good that they do in cleaning up the state of Hawaii and Colorado from drug trafficing, and have been publicly acknowledged and awarded and let them go on with their life.  Hopefully they'll go on without their son Tucker, who should be strung up and left out in the desert somewhere for doing something that horrible to his own father for money.  That's the one everyone should be talking about.  Go analyze him!
AMEN

11/09 Debate Dr. Phil and the Bishop

Quote From: cinnymin

How do you know what he meant.I heard and all I heard is he was worried about what might have been said in front of  his  sons  girlfriend.  Of course  I  heard  only  on  DrPhil  so  I  didnt  hear all of the conversaton . This has been going on since I was in high school.  I thought  by now  I am 53 years old. I hoped by now that word would have not been used still,  By either race.

I have  friend of both races I love  them all the same.

My feeling is that the N word is not always meant to be hateful.  My son works with several blacks men that don't have a problem with this term, pending on how the word is being used.  As for Dog, this was said in his home in a private conversation on the phone with his son.  Personally, it was my understanding that he didn't have a problem with his son dating this girl, but felt that it might be a problem when she was in the home if he used the N word as she might be offended by this.  When people think they have the right to start telling me what to say and do in my home, then that's when I have a problem.  Let's face it, everyone (of every color) say things in their homes that they may not say in public.  It's only natural.  No one, even people I'm sure like Al Sharpton, says things in his home he would not  want repeated in public.  Everone is human.
