From a celebrity’s controversial meltdown caught on tape to nooses cropping up around the country, Dr. Phil and Bishop T.D. Jakes tackle tough racial issues. First up, Dog the Bounty Hunter spewed slurs in a phone conversation with his son, Tucker, and used the N-word repeatedly when referring to Tucker’s black girlfriend, Monique. Monique’s mother, Linda Shinnery, joins the Dr. Phil show via satellite and says she was appalled by Dog’s tirade. Should the reality TV star lose his job over a private conversation? Civil rights activist Al Sharpton, rapper Master P, and BET correspondent Jeff Johnson weigh in. Then, nooses, a symbol of hatred for African-Americans, are cropping up more and more across the country – from Jena, Louisiana to Columbia University in New York. Najee Ali, founder and co-director of Project Islamic Hope, shares his views on empowering the black community and combating stereotypes. Don’t miss this intense debate about racism and sensitivity in America, and find out how you can educate your children. Join the discussion.

INDIVIDUAL VALUE or Collective non-value ?

THE LAST PARADE
by  Carl  V. "Sam" Lamb              Page 296          (ref: 1951)
James Fletcher Baxter   "Sam" and I had a lot in common. We both resisted evil. After I
got out of the hospital, Big Jim Causey told of driving along
in his police cruiser and hitting a black man in his head
with his pistol. He thought it was funny how the guy sprawled
into the street. When he made this comment we were in a card
game. I didn't say anything, but then he said he was going to
kick the ____ out of Joe Goggins and I had heard enough.
I said, "If you're going to try that, you'll have to go through
me to get to him. I'm willing to give my life for a country
that values each individual. If that isn't true, I don't want
to fight for that country  -  but,  it is true, so I'm not going
to let you rob me of the very good reason I may lose my life
tomorrow or next week. If you attack him, you attack me. I
may lose, but I guarantee I will make it very expensive for
you to get to him. Let me know what you decide."
He got up from our card game and said, "I'll have to think
about it."
I said, "Let me know. I'll be here."   He came back a little later and said, "You're right. I was
wrong." I thanked him for his manliness.
Joe Goggins came to me later and thanked me. He had wet eyes.                                                   +  +  +    11/8/07  JFB
Shortly after the above event, Jim Causey was called home for family
member medical problems. On his way back to the States, he passed
through a Naval medical facility. While there, he ran into my brother,
Sgt. Howard "Barney" Baxter,  5th Marines, who had just been sent
stateside for his Chosen Reservoir  frost-bitten feet.
Causey  told my brother  what had happened and said "how much it
had  changed  his  life."  He said  Joe and I had forgiven him and he
would "never go back to the old collective point of view." He was
really joyful because he was honestly able to forgive himself! He
became a more manly man - a good Marine  -  with honor.
I'm pleased the Rutgers women accepted Imus' apology. They, and
others, need to forgive.  We all need to  grow.   Good examples are
always in short supply.  God bless my Country and its Individuals.

Debate

While I cannot stand racists, I do not want our constitutional rights taken away, either.  I have never watched this person's TV show, have no idea what he is all about & have no plans of finding out.  If he is small minded & petty enough to feel that way towards someone just because of how they look, so be it - his loss.  A private phone call is just that: a private phone call.  As well, speaking out on how you feel about things is a part of what makes our country great.  At least we now know where he stands and can support or oppose him, as we choose.

I also feel that anyone...ANYONE...who tries to stir emotions to a boiling/exploding point, wants violence.  That is why I do not support people like Jackson and Sharpton.  I DO support The Bishop - his focus is on solving the problems, not stirring up violence, as it should be.

Bounty Hunter,Dog

What this man did was wrong, I would never say that word even in the privacy of my home, we just don't do that but he should be forgiven. According to the Bible, there is only one unforgivable sin and this is not it. If God has forgiven him, then we have no choice. The man is broken, if we don't forgive himthen God will not forgive us according . Was it right, a thousand times NO. His son is just as wrong to record a private conversation

The man does an awful lot of good. Sharpton would take it to the bank in a heartbeat if he himself could get a little more publicity. He calls himself a minister of the gospel, what gospel would that be ???

Let's forgive him and get on with his and our lives just as Jesus would do

The Dog

I feel if we want to remove the n-word then that should mean accross the board.  The rap community should stop using the word in their music and movies geared to  African-Americans should stop showing it as a "okay" word in the black community.  That is what Dog stated he really thought he good in the black community to use that word without it being taken as racial.  If we want to stop then that means everyone.

Which is worse?

Under NO circumstances should the "N" word ever be used.  I find it hard to think the word much less say it.  HOWEVER, the biggest tragedy in this unfortunate circumstance is being overlooked.  Tucker, his flesh and blood recorded and turned the conversation over to a gossip columnist. Dog's hurt from this betrayal must be overwhelming.    After the dust settles from this situation and the press goes home........the father-son relationship will never be the same...even after forgiveness.

The Dog

I personally think that the Dog's personal conversion should not affect his perfessional career. The phone call was personal. If he had been working and this was on tv then he should be punished for his choice of words. I think that the Dog does fine work and helps catch bad guys. I also think that Dog may have some thing to learn such as this word should never be used to describe anyone and that this word causes problems. Maybe the Dog needs to some type of intervention with Dr. Phil so that the Dog could learn to see people for who they are not the color of their skin. I think that the Dog made a huge mistake and needs to take the correct steps to fix his mistake!

Don't crucify him

I just saw Dog Chapman on Larry King live last night and he has been crucified enough already.  I hope that Dr. Phil and the Bishop and the rest of the guests don't do the same...He is trying to do a good thing.  I am a 57 white female and I agree the N word should not be used.  But let's not get carried away with this.

Dog Chapman

Ok.  I would like everyone to sit back, put your feet up and 'breath'!!  Give Dog his show back -- good lord so many people can't let anything roll off their back.  They see a chance to sue or to "get back" at that one person.  Yet, their best friend just referred to them the same way and they laughed it off!!  Everyone needs to have 2 hours on the front line, along with a soldier and it would put their world in a whole different perspective.  As a parent, Dog did what a parent would do, he told his son how he felt about their significant other, although he does not have a silver tongue, and anybody who watches the show, knows that.  His son, obviously took a chance to hurt his Dad  --  NICE.  Dog needs to learn how to speak politically correctly, especially so that his son doesn't get his feelings hurt.  That big strong boy and he's crying like a baby now.   Just get over it!!!

Dog.

Dog the bounty hunter is like so many people that wear a mask for the public and take it off when he thinks no one is looking.  His true feelings came out in that private conversation with his son.  If he was not a raceist then his concern should have been for his son's happiness and not the color of his girlfriend's skin.  Wheather the skin is black, white, red or any other color, beneath it we are all the same.  No, I do not think his show should return because he is not a very good example for our kids and everyone knows our kids have enough to deal with without putting people like him in front of them.  On the other hand, it was a private conversation and his son was out to hurt his Dad over his conments.  That family has a big problem.
