From a celebrity’s controversial meltdown caught on tape to nooses cropping up around the country, Dr. Phil and Bishop T.D. Jakes tackle tough racial issues. First up, Dog the Bounty Hunter spewed slurs in a phone conversation with his son, Tucker, and used the N-word repeatedly when referring to Tucker’s black girlfriend, Monique. Monique’s mother, Linda Shinnery, joins the Dr. Phil show via satellite and says she was appalled by Dog’s tirade. Should the reality TV star lose his job over a private conversation? Civil rights activist Al Sharpton, rapper Master P, and BET correspondent Jeff Johnson weigh in. Then, nooses, a symbol of hatred for African-Americans, are cropping up more and more across the country – from Jena, Louisiana to Columbia University in New York. Najee Ali, founder and co-director of Project Islamic Hope, shares his views on empowering the black community and combating stereotypes. Don’t miss this intense debate about racism and sensitivity in America, and find out how you can educate your children. Join the discussion.

Forgiveness

I would just like to say, "What happened to forgiveness?" I watched the show today and Master P was there and Dr. Phil pointed out the fact that in Rap music the N word was being used. Master P has changed and promised to not use that kind of language anymore in his music and everyone was okay with that. Why is not okay that Dog has asked everyone for forgiveness and has promised to never use that kind of language again also, why can't he be forgiven? Please keep in mind that Dog was having a "private" phone conversation.......Master P and alot of other famous people have spoken such language publicly. He recognizes that he has made a mistake and has sincerely apologized. He is willing to make things right.

What?

Quote From: ladiehawke

..be examined by Dr. Phil? It is amazing how racist blacks are and they are NEVER called on it. They call whites all sorts of names including, but not limited to Cracker and Honkey. At the University of Delaware it is being taught that ALL whites are racist just by virtue of their skin color and there has been an ongoing program in the University to indoctrinate students into this belief. The truth of the matter is that blacks are far more racist against whites. Whites have been so politically corrected to the point that they are afraid to speak. Blacks have not been the target of political correctness so they say what they please when they want and what they say is as derogatory or worse than what whites say often times.

In reference to Dog, Dog was in his home in a private phone conversation. His privacy was invaded by his son and, I believe, his son broke the law by taping the conversation and making it public. I would like to know what has happened to the right of free speech in our own homes. This reminds me of what went in in Nazi Germany when children were recruited to turn in their parents for the views that they expressed in the privacy of their own homes. Luckily, so far. Dog hasn't been dragged out of his house and taken to a concentration camp. But, I have to ask, how long will it be before a parent becomes afraid to speak their mind in their own home? What has happened to Americans right to free speech? I don't care what a person says in the pprivacy of their own home, they have the right to say it. The constitution is supposed to guarantee people the right to say what they want in their home. Hell, the constitution guarantees the right of free speech outside the home, but it has been so infringed on by political correctness for one portion of society that it has come to the point that that part of society is angry, frustrated and yelling, "Hey, what about them? Why do they get to do the same thing and not be called on the carpet?"

Fianlly, justice would dictate that Dog should not lose his job for what he said in the privacy of his home in a private conversation. It is a slippery slope. You take a job now, what will be next? Really, how long will it be before that becomes internment into a concentration camp?
African-Americans do not have the power to be racist.  African-Americans do not control anything.  This country was founded by and has been since run under a doctrine of systematic racism.  How can everyone overlook that?

11/09 Debate Dr. Phil and the Bishop

I am a 32 yr. old male. I am going to refer to myself as IRISH/AMERICAN, I would say I am white, but today everyone wants to put a counry infront of where they were born. I want to refer to every American as an American not as ______/American. If we truely want end racism let's start by not putting any country infront of America. People who put any country infront of America need to pack there bags and head there if they like it so well. I would rather see us unite as one country regardless od race.

Prejudice words

Hi,

It really amazes me how everyone is so up in arms over this racist topic.  While watching the show I never seen the recording artist say he pulled all his cd's off the shelf where he was using this langauge. Yet he turns around and says the dog should lose his show.  I think then that this artist should take the lead and take that cd off the market where he used racial comments and profanity, but once again he can make money off it for using such words, and the dog in a private conversation uses some of the same language, these same ones on the show that want to hang him.  To me, this is racism at it's political best by those who complain about it.

I was out at a function one night and there were some black's there and they were taunting whites by saying they can use these racial slurs ,but if the others use it they would be reported. So who promotes it???? One fellow got beat up because he thought they all joking about it, then when he made a comment like they were using they really beat him up for using the same language they were using.

They promote their own raacist comments then blame everyone else. They don't think they should be in jail  when they commit crimes. Well why not, if they did the crime then do the time.

I get sick of listening to this stuff, and if they don't want to be discriminated against then they should take the leading role by not promoting it themselves.

It is the caucasian folks that are discriminate against more than any other race.

Simple solution

Quote From: cindyi

Interesting how you can assume you know another person's meaning when a word is used. That "N" word can and does mean different things to different people, one definition of which is simply as a synonymn for "African American" or "Black American", whichever you find least offensive, with no derogatory meaning intended. It is very confusing when you hear people saying something to others of their own skin color then being jacked out of shape when others use it. We don't have automatic understandings of each other. To avoid offense and misinterpretation of meaning maybe it SHOULD just be removed from everyone's vocabulary. Then we don't have to worry about all the semantics.
Don't assume you can speak to someone you don't know in any way.  If you're not part of the group, stop trying to be part of it.  It's not cool or hip to pretend to "be down" when you're not.  Why do white people want to use the word anyway?  Oh, because you can't!

Trailer Trash???

Quote From: jasonsgege

Dr Phil was saying racial statements himself today and didn't even know it.  I love Dr. Phil. I never miss a show. But he is predijudice against young women who live in trailers and become pregnant.  Who says all teenage mothers live n a trailers?  I lived in a trailer, does that make me less of a person than the next because I got pregnant?
I really wondered if I was the only person who was offended by that statement. Just goes to show, no matter how much education, money, staff, or how big your house is, you are not above making a ridiculously biased statement in front of millions of people. Let alone to your own kid.

11/09 Debate Dr. Phil and the Bishop

Did anyone notice how the people in the audience were laughing when they were talking about how MasterP(what exactly is this guy the master of) says the N--word but when anyone white says it it is all serious....Kinda hypocritical isn't it. Almost as much as him generalizing people who live in a mobile home as pregnant and losers.

Wronglfully Terminated from Show

As an African American, I am appalled by Dog's tirade.  However, it was a personal conversation with his son, Tucker.  It was Tucker who made the conversation public.  I think that A&E was wrong to cancel his show.

Tell me, do I have to worry about someone making my private telephone conversations public?  What happened to freedom of speech.  Remember, I am appalled by Dog's tirade, but I do believe he had a right to his "freedom of speech.

What was Tucker's true motive for making his conversation with his father public?  Was it just anger, or did he need the money?

11/09 Debate Dr. Phil and the Bishop

I do NOT think Dog is a racist. Dog took a serial rapist off our streets, and suffered negative consequences for that. Dog is trying to get Meth off the streets in Hawaii. Leave Dog alone. When Dr. Phil made reference to the rapper's lyrics, he laughed and said, "What's up with that" . If you listened to what Dog said is that they use the word in their house occasionally. That word is used in almost all black rapper's song.

Dog

Dog needs to be careful what he says because it could be brought out to the public.  He must have really upset his son in the past for his son to do this to him.  No he should not be fired, but he needs to remember the public is watching and if doesn't want things to go public, then he needs not say them.  We are all people in this world and deservce each others respect.  Be kind and remember God loves us all the same.
