From a celebrity’s controversial meltdown caught on tape to nooses cropping up around the country, Dr. Phil and Bishop T.D. Jakes tackle tough racial issues. First up, Dog the Bounty Hunter spewed slurs in a phone conversation with his son, Tucker, and used the N-word repeatedly when referring to Tucker’s black girlfriend, Monique. Monique’s mother, Linda Shinnery, joins the Dr. Phil show via satellite and says she was appalled by Dog’s tirade. Should the reality TV star lose his job over a private conversation? Civil rights activist Al Sharpton, rapper Master P, and BET correspondent Jeff Johnson weigh in. Then, nooses, a symbol of hatred for African-Americans, are cropping up more and more across the country – from Jena, Louisiana to Columbia University in New York. Najee Ali, founder and co-director of Project Islamic Hope, shares his views on empowering the black community and combating stereotypes. Don’t miss this intense debate about racism and sensitivity in America, and find out how you can educate your children. Join the discussion.

Dog & Sharpton

Where is it written that it is okay for Sharpton  (and all the rest just like him) to spew racism but off limits for whites? I am sick and tired of the double standard we have allowed to be set for whites and blacks. Try haviing a "White History Month", or  "White Miss America", or "The United White College fund",  then just sit back and wach what happens. Having said that, let me state, Imus should  have made the statement he made but I also believe he should not have lost his job over it.( Do you know how HARD it is for a company to fire a black?). If Dog made his comments during a private conversation, they should have STAYED private and he certainly should not lose his job because they were made public. I also will not watch any TV show that has Sharpton as a guest.

11/09 Debate Dr. Phil and the Bishop

Quote From: blackbeauty

The fact of the matter is, is that Dog like everyone else is human.  The only thing that this shows me is that (and I have been saying this for years), is that white people whether they are rich or poor are racist!  And they just do a better job of covering it up.   Until they get caught lol lol.  Paris Hilton, Kramer...etc...all these people think it and thought it...just covered it up until they got caught.   Dog helps people?  Someone wrote that on this message board somewhere.  Well how the hell did he help this time around?  Well the answer for that for me is that he has proven what I have been always saying.  What I don't understand is why people are so surprised!  I used to watch his show (not knowing that he was referring to black people as N*****s), but that's over!  Even if they bring his show back I won't be watching it!  I stopped watching all reruns of  Seinfeld because of his comments! So THE DOG is no different as far as I am concerned.  I show my children these things when they happen time and time again so that they too can see racisim is very much alive and it isn't going anywhere...people just do a better job of hiding it...that is until they get caught...well oh then it's I'm sorry, I didn't mean it the way it sounded...bullshit...u said it, own it!  It's so funny to me that he's prays to the high heavens all the time on his show....he needs to be asking Jesus to take the hate and ugliness out of his heart....and more importantly, 'What does he think that God is sleeping when he is calling us this.  People don't realize that when anyone calls N***** that they are talking about all black people, because all black people have history related to this name.  I say to  DOG get over yourself and your show...and how would he react if people said where calling him a greasy head hippie? and his wife well looks like a straight up whore?   Bet he wouldn't like that too much...but hey everyone has an opinion and mine is the hell with Dog and ever other racist out there...but don't be so surprised to know that a lot of black people think and know that most if not all white people are racist....even these people that date outside of their race!  I
Are you kidding! Do you prefer "Ignorant black person" ? This post is so racist I don't know where to begin. Before anyone says "why didn't I call you just an Ignorant person", it is because you intentionally made it very clear you what race you are. You are the perfect example the problem. Teaching your children racism, you should be ashamed of yourself. In my opinion, there are far more black racists than white. You teach your children that white people are against them. I doubt if you have forgotten to also teach them of all privledges they can have because of their race. After all the white man owes them. While your at it be sure and teach them if they scream and yell and act like an animal they can scare the white man into giving them their way. I am so sick of everything being turned into a race issue. You don't have to say the N word to be called a racist. You can simply fire someone, not hire someone, not smile enough while serving food, hold your purse to tightly when someone walks by. You name it , its's like the boy who cried wolf, it doesn't hold water if you use it when it isn't true. Why don't you teach your children to become the type of person they can be proud of. The type of person anyone would be proud to call their nieghbor and their friend.

America's ugly race card

It does not surprise me that some ‘popular’ ignorant TV bounty hunter spewed epitaphs that are repugnant to citizens throughout the world. America lost its reputation for ‘fair play and defenders of the good’ internationally many years ago. The international community is aware that America will rape and plunder any country for the good of the corporations. Pay attention to Lord Cheney’s latest corporate grab, Iran. The concept of “Mom, apple pie and America as a nice guy image” is considered internationally as simply domestic delusion, one perpetuated by political marketing weavers. Dog the Bounty Hunter did not make a mistake, this is who he is, a racist. If Americans continue to watch this popular racist then it will definitely define who you are and we internationally will quietly mourn your moral decline.

THE DOG SHOW!

The Constitution states that AMERICA'S citizens have the FREEDOM of speech, to say want they want to - HHHMMMMM!  The most misinterpreted AMENDMENT (1st) of the Constitution, especially when WE who use it to downgrade someone else, so conveniently HIDE behind it.  FIRST OF ALL - there is no such thing as SEPARATION OF RACE!  WE are all of the same race, the HUMAN RACE, color only depicts from what REGION of the world you are from (i.e., french, english, mediterranean, russian, columbian, african, australian, whatever).  DOG would be the bigger man by apologizing to his son and his fiancee, because DOG is WRONG for demeaning that young lady.  In the Old Testament, GOD instructed the Israelites not in to INTERMARRY with other ethnic people.  GOD chose the Israe!!lites to be HIS people, to spread throughout the world the gospel according to GOD.  It has been a historical annotation throughout our history as the human race that LIGHT COLORED people are more smarter, intelligent, handsome, beautiful, stronger, WHATEVER!!!  In my life time on this earth, I have seen, and still see, handsome men and women exhibiting all the characteristics that I have just mentioned and COLOR IS NOT THE PROBLEM!!  It is the INADEQUACIES that we, as individuals, accept either as common practice or 'JUST THE WAY THINGS ARE'!!!  WRONG!!  IGNORANCE is not a substitute for NEGLEGENCE!!  In our world of today there wars and rumors of war, man will only have peace when JESUS CHRIST returns to claim HIS throne.  We can call for peace and claim it, but it will not last because one of the stones of the foundation of any peace effort is TRUST, and with the uneasiness in this world today, peace is a commodity that has "NO VALUE", that is 'THERE'S NO MONEY IN IT'!!  Isn't it a shame that with ALL of our intellect, we as HUMAN BEINGS still have to bend our 'wills' AND OUR KNEES to a HIGHER POWER!?  GOD is not just a 'higher power', HE is our Heavenly FATHER, CREATOR, and during rough and tough times, HE is our ally.  Praise GOD from whom ALL blessings AND life flow.  DOG can keep his job, what he says in private is known to GOD and those whom he insulted and hurt, why DOG would want to hurt his relationship with his son is FOOLISH.  What a 'FOOL' is by my PERSONAL DEFINITION:  "A person who knows to do the RIGHT thing, but doesn't do it".  There is a verse in the Bible that states:  "He that knoweth to do right and doeth it not, to him it is sin".  Dr. Phil, I am glad that you are of an 'open-mind', GOD Bless you and Robin and your family.  All the Best from your friend always.

11/09 Debate Dr. Phil and the Bishop

I'm not a big fan of "Dog" but as far as I'm concerned, his son is the culprit.  What's wrong with this world when people are lurking in the background to catch someone saying or doing something that's considered taboo in the privacy of their own homes?  David Hasselhoff is another example.  Are we all going to be looking over our shoulder when we speak?  No one should have the right to take advantage like that.  The last I heard, wasn't it illegal to tape record a person's phone conversation without their consent?

"Dog" was just voicing his opinion.  Right or wrong, it's HIS!

Racial Comments

Who is the last black person you can name who has slurred a "whitey" and lost his or her job? Who is the last Latino who has slurred a "whitey" and lost his or her job? Who is the last Jew who has slurred a "whitey" and lost his or her job? Who is the last Asian who has slurred a "whitey" and lost his or her job? If you can name any then you win the "game"! I am a white person who has in my lifetime said the n word or the j word or the a word in conversations with friends, relatives, etc. I have never used these words directly to a person to hurt them. I am getting tired of having to walk on pins and needles around people of a different race for fear that I will be shot, murdered, lose my job, etc.  This is just getting out of hand for everyone. Everyone makes mistakes and anyone can ask to be forgiven and life goes on. This about "Dog"

is a very sad sad event that took place between him and his son and someone found a way to manipulate this son against his Dad. The whole event rings of a sit up and I wish the blacks would learn not to be so sensitive when this happens and before they go off calling in the whole troops would confront the person if necessary and work it out like it should be.

calm down

Quote From: debg045

Chrissy06, I noticed that when you responded, you never mentioned punishment! This is a grown man! He should know by now that it was wrong before he said it. Obvisiousy he has been practicing this word and had not gotten caught using it frequently! So when you say he has a good show, SO WHAT! Some sort of punishment should come out of it! I can tell from your response you are not African American! Only because you are so non chalant!
I thinki ti is crazy that you are getting all in arms over a word. A word that was said in private with the guys son.He shouldnt have said it but that just shows he is stupid not that he should be given any real punishment. The guy made a mistake... oops we all do. and come on African Americans use the word all the time and no one freaks out about it. Walk in Akron for a day and you will hear it a bunch of times... not to say that it is ok to hear it. And then whites are called crackers and no one gets up in arms about that...

I think everyone needs to just calm down... the only way this word gets power is because people get so bent out of shape about it... if people would just brush it off as just another word I think that it would lose the apeal to say it. But who knows I am just a little white girl acting all non chalant.

Racism?????

All I can say is that I thank my parents for a good sound upbringing when it comes to this. My parents taught us children at a very early age that all humans are equal regardless of race, color, or creed. All humans are unique within themselves. All humans are here on this great earth to live together and take care of it. If we were all the same race, color and creed; what a boring place this would be.

The past is the past in our country as well as others. We can never begin to move forward if we keep stepping back. LETS IT GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When I was in high school (late 60's) there was an issue about busing so there were problems amongst the students.  The bad thing was when all were brought together to address the problem; it was then found out that it was not the students with the objections but the parents in WHO their children were going to school with. People that was in the 60's.  PLEASE FOR THE SAKE OF OUR PLANET; GET OVER IT. ALL OF IT.

Check your history lady

Quote From: maria3255

Dear Dr.Phil,

I find this trend of these nooses as symbols of black hatred so worrying because racism still seems to exist in a world where we, as human beings haven't learnt anything from past history, where the Klu Klux Klan ran rampant in the south. Where slaves were transported over from Africa and used for the white man's pleasure.  It's just so tragic that racism always rears it's ugly head in some way or form. I am a white woman by the way, and i feel ashamed at times to be white.

Sincerely,

Lory(Australia)

I agree with part of what you said but one thing you should no is that black people sold there own people into slavery as well. They had the rich that sold the poor  and what about what they do to each other today?  Don,t kid yourself, white people haven,t cornered the market on racism.....

I am color blind

Once again the “heavyweights” square off on racial issues (on Dr. Phil). I wonder if everyone who opens a box of crayons “hates” the black one…or the white one…or the yellow one? Why would it be so difficult to transfer this ridiculous premise to persons wearing skins or outer colors? Husserl said that “articulation is a distortion of a pre-articulate reality.” Once again we try to articulate reality with our paraphrasing and changing the wording to fit everyone equally and rationally. I cannot help but wonder when we will realize that our differences are a blessing and quit trying to make them a curse.

When the (real) Aryans invaded the Indus Valley some 4 or 5 thousand years ago and began mixing with the darker skinned Harrapans they could not have envisioned the legacy. Color was then a standard of the caste system in India with the lighter skinned ones being the more desirable and the darker skinned ones becoming “untouchable.” Hence are we not all to some degree presented with the possibility of some darker skinned ancestor? The way the modern term “Aryan” is used has little to do with history and more to do with racial weaponry of simple minded prejudice. Since the issue is mainly “black and white” in America, both colors are equally guilty of unfounded and ill-fated manufactured color consciousness. We are having a war of words and colors when the real issue is deeper. Under the skin we are human beings – individuals, blessed with differences and the power of choice in dealing with those differences. The small minded people who make those differences a basis for conflict have a sad lack of education and exposure to the feelings of compassion and acceptance that make up the totality of a real down-to-earth human being. Words should have smaller impact and actions and feelings need to take hold of our reality. Words like “n****,” “h****,” “k***,” “g***,” and “f** d***” should be a source of amusement for us to rise above not an inspiration for warfare on our fellow humans. Are we such a world of idiots we would end a life over a word or a color? I would hope not.
