From a celebrity’s controversial meltdown caught on tape to nooses cropping up around the country, Dr. Phil and Bishop T.D. Jakes tackle tough racial issues. First up, Dog the Bounty Hunter spewed slurs in a phone conversation with his son, Tucker, and used the N-word repeatedly when referring to Tucker’s black girlfriend, Monique. Monique’s mother, Linda Shinnery, joins the Dr. Phil show via satellite and says she was appalled by Dog’s tirade. Should the reality TV star lose his job over a private conversation? Civil rights activist Al Sharpton, rapper Master P, and BET correspondent Jeff Johnson weigh in. Then, nooses, a symbol of hatred for African-Americans, are cropping up more and more across the country – from Jena, Louisiana to Columbia University in New York. Najee Ali, founder and co-director of Project Islamic Hope, shares his views on empowering the black community and combating stereotypes. Don’t miss this intense debate about racism and sensitivity in America, and find out how you can educate your children. Join the discussion.

Never Ever think or use "that word".

I think the "Dog" is around my age (48) and how dare he even think of that word let alone speak it.  When I grew up in around Cleveland, Oh., and all the racial termoil that was going on during then haven't we learned anything about that word?  That it is totally unexceptable these days.  I know I had four children and never once did they hear that word except in songs of the hip hop nature but then it was not used for the use of back in the day use.  I am ashamed that someone in the spotlight and also who lives on the Hawaiian Islands, where the white population is a minority, can even think like that.  For him to use it he has to use it frequently.

So sick of hearing about the

Honestly, the "N" word is used toward black people the same way as "cracker", "honkey", and whatever other stupid terms that are used regarding white people.  It's just a insult!  As far as what happened with Dog the Bounty Hunter, It was a private conversation! End of story!  When people are having "private" conversations they say a lot of things that can be held against them, and black people are just as guilty for using racist comments. However, Honkey and Cracker don't have the same effect on whites and the "media" as the "n" word has on blacks and the "media" because the the "n" word has history to it.  I think it's ridiculous to keep giving attention to these racist comments.  Blacks who are offended by the "n" word are offended for the wrong reasons.  You can't stop people from saying what they want to say that will never change!  Welcome to America people, It's called "Freedom of Speech"  There will always be racists out there and they come in every race, gender, & religion.  Remember what we tell our children when dealing with racism, and name calling, "take it from where it comes" and if it isn't true, why let it bother you so much.

I think Dog should own up to what he said and appologize instead of making stupid excuses, and that should be the end of it!  And whoever doesn't like him anymore, or want to watch his show, that's their choice. They probally didn't watch his show in the first place otherwise they would realize that Dog was pissed off, having a private conversation with his son, and trying to piss him off.  I believe it's that simple! Unfortunately he's famous, thats the only reason why anyone cares.  GIVE DOG A BREAK!

Offspring betrayal

I think the issue isn't so much that we caught Dog on a potty mouth day, but rather that his son would betray him in such a manner as to make their telephone convo public.   I don't usually use foul language, but there are times that offensive words bounce off my tongue when I feel pushed to the wall.  I would be horrified if one of those situations spread outside the privacy of my home.  Having a heated conversation with a loved one can make us feel powerless at times.  I am not sure what the dynamics are, but using strong language provides the illusion of  regaining some power. Dog is a man who has lived a rough life, and probably talked rough too. I imagine even if he has cleaned up his speech, those words surface when he is pushed too far. He has paid his dues and is making amends and trying to help others who are on a rough path. He is not perfect.  No one is. The man is sincerely remorseful that people had to hear him lose it like that. He did not make the comments during his show, so to me talking about canceling is being hypersensitive. People spend money to see movies that are filled with dialogue using the N word and the F word and so on.  For crying out loud listen to some rap music!!  Those guys and gals get paid big bucks to talk like that!   . . . Dog slipped.  Forgive the man and let him have his life back.

Its not fair nor right....

I do not condone the use of the "N" word by anyone. I find it unfair that Rev. Sharpton and Jesse Jackson would spend so much time policing and boycotting people who use words like "ho's" and "Nappy B******", they often overlook that african american youth, rappers and urban culture's use of the "n" word is considered the norm.

Sensitivity is a two-way street

Quote From: mageed123

I am so fed up with all this racial stuff. I have 2 daughters and I am sick of hearing how certain rappers refer to women and how their gonna do us a big favor and let us go to their"candy shop" and lick their "lollipops" GIVE ME A BREAK!!! Why is it ok to refer to women as hoes and bitches and noone seems to take that as a racial slur. I am offended by it and tired of it , just as those who are offended by DOGs racial slur are apperently. DOG made a mistake and he's stepping up to the plate and taking responsibility for that. That's a man of integrity. But it seems that blacks are so ready to jump on someone who uses that word besides themselves and just hang them out to dry. If that word is so offensive then everyone should stop using it including the blacks. I lived in Georgia for many many years and the racial tension was thick but what I noticed having been an outsider moving in there was it seemed that the blacks were the ones carry the grudge and were very quick to use that card. What I am trying to say is, I hear words used in a derogatory way towards my race and my gender all the time, hell I can't turn the radio on without hearing it and I am tired of society turning a blind eye to that yet will jump all over someone like DOG .  Let's do something about the blacks degrading women, I'm ready to make a big issue out of that. Give Duane Chapman a break he said something in a private conversation who hasn't. Good grief . If you saw his interview you can tell this has broke him on many levels. DOG you are a hero to many and your certainly still one of mine.

Debbie Magee

I agree totally with you.  My daughter listens to rap (unfortunately she is of age so there is nothing I can do about it) and it totally disgusts me how she can stand to listen to the totally degrading things that are said about women.  As you said ... blind eye!

As far as rappers using racial slang....my understanding is that demographics show that a large number of purchasers are Caucasian.  So basically the rappers are continually planting this word in the heads of our young people, desensitizing their audience and then getting upset when the "N" word gets used.  It has never been acceptable in my home to use any type of racial slur.  This is the only one that crops up....other cultures do not get on the radio and sing out their slurs.  And, it seems, the rappers enjoy living off the money they obtain while educating the younger generation in such a vile way.

I feel tomorrow with be so totally one-sided on the show.  I believe many of us agree that Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson use "racism" to further their own agenda.  I understand why Dog refused to be part of this panel.  He has been slammed enough.

Hopefully Bishop T.D. Jakes will be a voice of reason.  Too bad Dr. Phil couldn't have Bill Cosby on.

When Dr. Phil says we must have sensitivity I hope he stresses that sensitivity is a two-way street.

Dr. Phil is very brave to take this on.  Depending on the way it is handled he could lose a good portion of his viewing audience.  I have always been a huge fan of both Dr. Phil and Dog.  However, if Dr. Phil allows his panel to be totally racist toward Caucasians I will have to stop watching his show.

As far as Dog, I hope A&E puts him back on.  What happened to him was sad because it was his son that turned on him.  Unfortunately our media has done a wonderful job in giving a rag like "The Enquirer" unbelievable attention.  I would not waste my time of day on "The Enquirer" and believe that without the media attention very few people would care what came out of "The Enquirer."  Who are the advertisers that pulled out of A&E after this hit.  Maybe they should advertise in "The Enquirer" so I don't have to be aware of their existence.

We must see racism when it is really there.  Imus was a case of true racism and yet he is returning to his show.  Something is wrong with this picture.

Good luck Dr. Phil ... this Dog situation could end up biting you.

Karen

dog

The phone conversation between Dog and his son was private, The son should be the one to apologize for selling out his own family. I don't like the word used, but  it was after all a private call beween two people. I say let Dog keep his show. I think the son showed disrespect.
