From a celebrity’s controversial meltdown caught on tape to nooses cropping up around the country, Dr. Phil and Bishop T.D. Jakes tackle tough racial issues. First up, Dog the Bounty Hunter spewed slurs in a phone conversation with his son, Tucker, and used the N-word repeatedly when referring to Tucker’s black girlfriend, Monique. Monique’s mother, Linda Shinnery, joins the Dr. Phil show via satellite and says she was appalled by Dog’s tirade. Should the reality TV star lose his job over a private conversation? Civil rights activist Al Sharpton, rapper Master P, and BET correspondent Jeff Johnson weigh in. Then, nooses, a symbol of hatred for African-Americans, are cropping up more and more across the country – from Jena, Louisiana to Columbia University in New York. Najee Ali, founder and co-director of Project Islamic Hope, shares his views on empowering the black community and combating stereotypes. Don’t miss this intense debate about racism and sensitivity in America, and find out how you can educate your children. Join the discussion.

11/09 Debate Dr. Phil and the Bishop

Quote From: norysues

I think people need to get over this word.  I am not going to lie, I use the word all the time.  To me this word does not represent black people, and it never did.  I have been on both sides of discrimination and many others.  I am a white female, and I see many white, black, yellow, whatever color fit the description of "The N Word."  To me this word represents low life, no job having, irresponsible and uneducated people.  It did not seem like Dog was calling anyone this word, but I may have not heard the story right.  I am also shocked that Dr. Phil would have a former crack dealer on his show to partly represent black people, I don't care if he has changed or not.  Yes, I was a Master P fan back in the day myself and I know what his music was about.  Furthermore, that conversation was private, if people heard every conversation celebrities have in private, there would be no entertainment industry now would there?  No one is perfect.  Racisim will always exist in some form, get over it.
ACTUALLY , you need to get over  it , you really must not know what the N WORD MEans, actually it means a pejorative term used to refer to DARK SKINNED people a racial slur, look it up in the REAL Dictionary

Constitution anyone?

As I see it, we do live in America. Dog can say whatever he wants. It's part of the constitution. And anyone can agree or disagree with him. Ask the folks in Idaho who have to deal with the KKK having a public march every year. It's their right, and that's what makes this country great. Don't like it? MOVE! I don't like the fact that my husband owns a gun, but it's his right. I don't like the "N" word the same as I don't like the "F" word, but folks throw that one around a lot. No one was ever cancled for saying f%$@. Am I right?

N Word

Quote From: nonconform

The world could blow up under our noses and all we would worry about is who called who a N-Word...

It's a word, only a word, attached to negetive emotions. To other black people it means "Homie" apparently, to whites it means either any stupid person regardless of race, or the racist idiot who doesn't know any better because that's how his dad taught him to be.

Racisim isn't something that can be exterminated. It's something passed from generation to generation and only gets worse. We can convert those that follow it, but not all those that preach it.

I'm not a racist, as I hate everybody equally...then if they waste the time to get to know me better, we might be friends...

I am very disappointed in Dr Phil. He has thrown Dog under the bus. Never knew him to be so judgemental before. Shame on you, Dr Phil!!

11/09 Debate Dr. Phil and the Bishop

Quote From: sunny_ladyup

YOU NEED Help , a lot of African Americans do not judge Caucasians, especially not me, you must not know about yourself if you put my people in that categorie, how about the Caucasians symbols and Flags , you need to get out more ,,

There are also alot of African Americans that do judge.  WHen there is a racial remark about an African American, all they do is overexpose the issue and draw more attention to it!  You don't see any other race doing this!....and there are people who hate whites as well, but they dont bring their problems to Dr. Phil

Birthontrol for middle school

I am 23 years old and a college student. I was watching the Dr. Phil show and decided to post on the message boards because one topic really hit home with me. I have read in the new several times about the school that was going to offer birth control to 11+ yearolds. When I was 14 years old I became sexually active and while I feel it wasnt the 'best' decision..."everone was doing it" and as a teenager as much as you dont want to be a follower you dont want to be an outcast either. As I got older I became more attuned to my body and love and sex and everything started to make sense! All of a sudden I shed the old thoughts that what I was doing was wrong and all of a sudden it was just another part of life- growing up, haha as a 14 yearold, like duh--- ;) Looking back I wish that there had been more available to me in the way of birth control and INFORMATION on where to receive such things. God- once I found my local planned parenthood location (took forever) I was saved- and giving all of my friends (who also needed sex ed help) the address. They give free birth control and testing and healthcare depending on the state in which you live. The fact is that although birthcontrol doesnt protect against stds, I wish someone had made it available to me. Abstinence based sex education dosent work. DOESNT WORK. By the time I was in 10th grade I knew NO one who was a virgin... so parents, get over your own insecurities and realize that girls were having babies at 12 years old since man was created and its time to be resopnsible for your children by making sure they respect themselves enough to know that they should try very hard not to ruin their lives by getting pregnant too early or getting stds... and instead of preaching abstinance (which is near impossible) teach them responsibility and share with them the resources available

dogs words

Dr. Phil, I agree that that word is repusive!!!   But I don't understand why the black people think it is ok to use it and then expect others not to use.   To me it is the pot calling the kettle black.   If should not be used by anyone!!!!!!!   If I don't want someone to repeat me than I don't say something that I don't want them to say.

I agree with your thoughts

Quote From: weapil

I am a fan of Dr Phil and enjoy watching Dog the Bounty Hunter.  I am disgusted by what he said however, I am even more disgusted by what his son did and by the public for crucifiying a person for a PRIVATE conversation.  I am not supporting what he said because I think racisim of any kind is unexceptable however, we need to remember that this man has taken drug dealers, robbers, murderes, abusers and rapists off the streets.  No one is even mentioning that he makes a living out of putting scum away. All we are focused on is what he said in a PRIVATE conversation.
This was a PRIVATE conversation,  I am sick to death of hearing about racial topics.  People have the right to say what they want in  PRIVATE conversations.  I am switching the channel!
