From a celebrity’s controversial meltdown caught on tape to nooses cropping up around the country, Dr. Phil and Bishop T.D. Jakes tackle tough racial issues. First up, Dog the Bounty Hunter spewed slurs in a phone conversation with his son, Tucker, and used the N-word repeatedly when referring to Tucker’s black girlfriend, Monique. Monique’s mother, Linda Shinnery, joins the Dr. Phil show via satellite and says she was appalled by Dog’s tirade. Should the reality TV star lose his job over a private conversation? Civil rights activist Al Sharpton, rapper Master P, and BET correspondent Jeff Johnson weigh in. Then, nooses, a symbol of hatred for African-Americans, are cropping up more and more across the country – from Jena, Louisiana to Columbia University in New York. Najee Ali, founder and co-director of Project Islamic Hope, shares his views on empowering the black community and combating stereotypes. Don’t miss this intense debate about racism and sensitivity in America, and find out how you can educate your children. Join the discussion.

birth control for kids younger than 16

Quote From: skropk1

I am 23 years old and a college student. I was watching the Dr. Phil show and decided to post on the message boards because one topic really hit home with me. I have read in the new several times about the school that was going to offer birth control to 11+ yearolds. When I was 14 years old I became sexually active and while I feel it wasnt the 'best' decision..."everone was doing it" and as a teenager as much as you dont want to be a follower you dont want to be an outcast either. As I got older I became more attuned to my body and love and sex and everything started to make sense! All of a sudden I shed the old thoughts that what I was doing was wrong and all of a sudden it was just another part of life- growing up, haha as a 14 yearold, like duh--- ;) Looking back I wish that there had been more available to me in the way of birth control and INFORMATION on where to receive such things. God- once I found my local planned parenthood location (took forever) I was saved- and giving all of my friends (who also needed sex ed help) the address. They give free birth control and testing and healthcare depending on the state in which you live. The fact is that although birthcontrol doesnt protect against stds, I wish someone had made it available to me. Abstinence based sex education dosent work. DOESNT WORK. By the time I was in 10th grade I knew NO one who was a virgin... so parents, get over your own insecurities and realize that girls were having babies at 12 years old since man was created and its time to be resopnsible for your children by making sure they respect themselves enough to know that they should try very hard not to ruin their lives by getting pregnant too early or getting stds... and instead of preaching abstinance (which is near impossible) teach them responsibility and share with them the resources available

Well I personally think that is sick that children close to my daughters age is taking birth control. Where are the parents? Do they actually care and know what there kids are doing at such a young tender age? Giving kida that age birth control is taking there youth away. Parents who allow this should actually watch thier kids. They also need to be part of there lives and do good things with them instead of letting schools or doing it them selves give kids so young birth control. That is just wrong. supervise Your kids better so we can protect them better. it makes me sick to know babies that young losing there youth cuz they made a baby and now have to take care of it.  BABIES MAKING BABIES IS WRONG DON'T TEACH THEM TO BE LIKE THAT. TEACH THEM MARLES AND VALUES AND WE WONT HAVE THIS PROBLEM .

Dog's phone call

This was a personal phone call that he was having with his son.  His son should be punnished for doing this to a very important person in todays world.  We love Dog and look forward to watching his show but now it is off the air, this is so wrong. I could see it if he was talking to the public on camera and stating all of this information but the reality of it is that it was a PERSONAL phone call.  Give him a break!

11/09 Debate Dr. Phil and the Bishop

I have to agree with the high school kid we have had black kids over to our house and i would have too say 85% of the kids 12to 20 use the n word all the time or at least when they sing there rap we ask them not to use curse words in our home and they for the most part respect us ! We are one of the few parents that let them hang around here ive done that just as my parents did for me when i was growing up we have had a few bad apples but for the most part they do good when there here ! but that word is used all the time when i was in the groc bis.grown adults would use it to there sons no mater what age so if these so called black leaders want change they should clean up there house first !! I caught alot of shoplifters in my day it was about  50/50 black /white  never in my 35+years did i have a white person say your stopping because im white but  at least 2 a week i would stop a black and that would be the first thing out of his lips till we told him to pull the product out of his pants, coat,or shirt. so clean up your act before you throw stones there are bad apples every where.

11/09 Debate Dr. Phil and the Bishop

Quote From: ohplease614

oh can i go into an all black neighborhood and be welcomed with open arms? please you can't blame it on "white people" a black person has a better chance of going into a "white neighborhood" then vice versa, and just because majoritys of white people sociate with white people doesn't make them racist towards black people  perhaps the 2 different cultures don't have much in common and prefer to be around people who share their same interest i think you are very ignorant to think the way you do

The aren't two different cultures.  Are they not both american?  We eat the same food, watch the same tv, go to sporting events, celebrate the same holidays. Where's the difference?

Have you ever heard of  "white flight"?  That's racism in action. If you don't know you should read up on it. Where it comes from and why.

And yes, their behavior does make them racist. I can tell you don't think about this much. Or read books.  The information is out there if you just take an interest.

hypocrisy and the roots

Everyone on the panel today seemed to be well educated and affluent. It is a tough world, and people can have any opinion they would like to have. Opinions are formed on one's personal social experience. That social experience is learned and shared from the day we are born. If someone doesn't like me because of my looks, behavior, social status, or any other reason, then so be it. I hold my head up and go on about my business. I have the right to hold an opinion, and verbalize it accordingly. The same applies to any other person. However, it may not be in good taste. "Dog" holds an opinion on his son's girlfriend. What parent doesn't? It is only a slur and not a gun. When you allow words to do you harm, then it is time to focus on the root of the problem. What did the girlfriend do? I seriously doubt what her skin color is caused "Dog" to react like that.  I am sick of the crying over name calling. Grow up and go find something productive to do other than worry about an over-sensationalized story with a topic that happens every day in many ways to many different types of people, including myself. He didn't direct his comment to the black community. It was not directed at anyone but the son and his girlfriend, and done so in a private conversation. Butt out, America! Most of the shame should fall on the gold-digging son. I would bet the father will forgive his son, so don't be a hypocrit, and not do the same for "Dog". Collectively, if the entire panel could take the same energy and apply it to a real cause, not based on opinion, then, in my opinion, that time would be better spent.

Today's show a real dumb dumb

Quote From: chrissy_06

I think that  Dog should get his show back b/c he his a hero to many people and he is one of my heros and he always will be. He made a mistake and we all make misakes its part of who we are. And i as do many people think that he should get his show back. He has one of the best tv shows around.

1) Censorship of speech or prejudice only creates DEEPER prejudice.  EVERYONE has their preferences, everyone in anger calls names.... (oh show me someone who doesn't has or is due some serious internal medical issues!)

2) Pills to 11 year olds....  Lots of shoulds.... Well, those shoulds have never worked, along with education, parental responsibility, etc.   PILL the active!  You WON'T stop them.  Protect that girl's future without babies having babies.

I'm trying to have respect for Dr. Phil's comments....but the words of audience and platform and video connections....are FULL OF IT!

Kids don't have ability to predict consequences of their actions - Dr. Phil.   (YES)

No child is FORCED to take the pill, but for those girls who KNOW theyre going to be sexually active, yes, pill her....along with giving her as much sex education as possible - i.e., RESPECT for her own body...

For....the girl IS simply being used, and eventually discarded with a baby for SOCIETY to feed.  Protect the girls, protect society, protect the baby born to a baby.

outraged

I am outraged over the whole Dog the Bounty Hunter dispute.  Come on people this man has taken many a criminal of f the streets for us.  And we pay him back by judging him and cancelling his show for something he said in his home in private to his son. God forbid our places of employment take what we do in our homes and away from work and fire us I think we would all be out of jobs.  Seriously people let's get real and grow up.

a little too much??

i just watched the show today and ive been watching the news. i think that all this drama about dog is going a little too far. i no it seemed like he was being racist to his son's girlfriend but i dont think he was at all, he wasnt calling her that word he was just saying what would happen if she went down there. they should definately not be cancelling his show because of this. look what dog does for everyone, he puts criminals behind bars! i am not from america but i thought it was the land of the free. where everyone has freedom of speech?

WHAT EXACTLY IS THE PROBLEM HERE

Quote From: sdellasa

I think it's awful the race wars that are going on in this country!  However, I think this show is making it worse by having people like Al Sharpton on there to overexpose the issue.  What about all the other races who are defamed because of their color?  WHy is it always about the African Americans?  You never see a show where a hispanic, Jew, white, or Asian are discussing racial attacks!  And you know it has happened to them!....it just seems as though the AA community is always out to overexpose the issue.

I DO NOT CONSIDER MYSELF A RACIST PERSON. I HAVE MANY FRIENDS OF DIFFERENT SKIN COLOR, ETHINICITY,RELIGIONS , ETC. I WOULD NEVER CONSIDER CALLING A BLACK THE N WORD. HOWEVER, HAVING GROWN CHILDREN AND HAVING OWNED A BUSINESS IN OUR COMMUNITY, I HAVE HEARD BLACKS CALL THEMSELVES THAT TIME AND TIME AGAIN AND I GASP. MY SON PLAYED BASKETBALL FOR YEARS AND OUR HOMETOWN IS HALF AND HALF OF COLOR. DURING GAMES AND PRACTICES I WITNESSED BLACKS CALLING BLACKS THE N WORD, HOWEVER, HAD A WHITE CALLED THEM THAT THEY WOULD HAVE BEEN IN A LARGE AMOUNT OF TROUBLE. I HAVE ALMOST HEAVED WHEN HEARING SOME OF THE RAP MUSIC THAT BLACKS WRITE AND SING. NOW, HERE IS WHERE I AM JUST IN SHOCK WITH THE DOG CONTROVERSY. HOW DARE SOMEONE TAKE SOMEONES PRIVATE PHONE CONVERSATIONS, A TV CELEBRITY OR MYSELF, AND TAKE THEIR CAREERS FROM THEM. HE OBVISOUSLY DID NOT KNOW THAT THIS WAS GOING TO BE MADE PUBLIC. HOW MANY OF US HAVE SAID THINGS IN PRIVATE WHEN UPSET THAT WE WOULD NOT WANT MADE PUBLIC? AND HE USED THE SAME N WORD AS THE BLACKS CALL THEMSELVES. IF A BLACK CELEBRITY HAD BEEN UPSET AND NOT KNOWN THAT HE WAS BEING RECORDED AND CALLED A WHITE A CRACKER, WHAT WOULD HAPPEN? LOOK AT ALL THE GOOD THAT THIS MAN HAS DONE WITH HIS LIFE. ARE WE GOING TO ALLOW THIS ONE INCIDENT PREDICT HIS CAREER? GIVE IT UP PEOPLE.... IF YOU DON'T WANT THE N WORD SAID THEN IT SHOULD BE ACROSS THE BOARD, NOT JUST ONE SIDED. I JUST DO NOT SEE THE PROBLEM HERE WITH HIM EVEN REMOTELY BEING TO THE POINT OF LOSING WHAT HE HAS WORKED SO HARD FOR. PERHAPS ALL RAP MUSIC, VIDEOS, COMEDIANS ETC SHOULD BE PULLED ALSO. WHATS FAIR FOR ONE SHOULD BE FAIR FOR ALL.

GOD BY ANY OTHER NAME.....

Dog is God spelled backwards.  Not only if you are going to sport the namesake God around, and be a public figure, private or otherwise you do have an obligation to the public.  Especially when you want to pass yourself off as a redeemed, sanctified, semi-holy character.  Everytime Dog brings a fugitive in he preaches going the right way.  He of all people know that when you get off track and do the wrong thing, you have to pay the piper and live with the consequences.  Dog has to uphold his reputation in public AND privately.

God is trying to tell you something Dog-aka-God-spelled-backwards, hopefully you will stop feeling sorry for yourself and listen.  Let go of your prejudices and change your heart and open your mind and your door to your son (who is obviously pissed off at you, or he wouldn't have turned you in) and his black girlfriend.  This is ANOTHER wonderful teaching opportunity for Dog to finally make the metamorpheses of his change complete, by burying his bigoted beliefs beside his criminal past.
