From a celebrity’s controversial meltdown caught on tape to nooses cropping up around the country, Dr. Phil and Bishop T.D. Jakes tackle tough racial issues. First up, Dog the Bounty Hunter spewed slurs in a phone conversation with his son, Tucker, and used the N-word repeatedly when referring to Tucker’s black girlfriend, Monique. Monique’s mother, Linda Shinnery, joins the Dr. Phil show via satellite and says she was appalled by Dog’s tirade. Should the reality TV star lose his job over a private conversation? Civil rights activist Al Sharpton, rapper Master P, and BET correspondent Jeff Johnson weigh in. Then, nooses, a symbol of hatred for African-Americans, are cropping up more and more across the country – from Jena, Louisiana to Columbia University in New York. Najee Ali, founder and co-director of Project Islamic Hope, shares his views on empowering the black community and combating stereotypes. Don’t miss this intense debate about racism and sensitivity in America, and find out how you can educate your children. Join the discussion.

Is this still America?

Dr Phil? I can't believe you are covering this topic?!? I think Dog is right not to show up on your show today. I simply cannot believe that you have been duped into the fast tract our government is using to take away our freedoms. If Mr. Dog had said something publically that was deemed to be inappropriate, I could understand the outrage.  Try tapping my line sometime! I'm sure the feds couldn't find a  hole deep enough to put me in. I am a very outspoken, opinionated AMERICAN !!  I may be a fool, but I cannot over look all the blood that has been spilled to give me the rights I have.  The enemy doesn't look at the color of the skin of the soldier, the blood is all the same color.  Don't misunderstand me, I don't necessarily agree with what you said Mr. Dog said.  However, he should have the right to say whatever he feels to say in privacy. The Constitution of the United States gives us that right.  I can't understand why most of your panel today was black, why not Vietnamese, German, White African, Mexican?  I don't understand why businesses print material in English and Spanish but not in other languages? Can you explain this?

The Dog

Am I the only one that thinks that this has gone too far?? By the looks of today's show racism is only one way. Are there not only white racists but also black people that are against whites??

11/09 Debate Dr. Phil and the Bishop

Quote From: nelakeloon

A & E took "Dog" off the air but, they continue to sell his vidos, T-shirts, etc., to make more money for A&E...this is hipacritical.  Shame on A & E TV.
A&E must be running scared. What a bunch of whimps.. This was a PRIVATE conversation, and Dog's son should be horse whipped, as my grandfather would say. He should hope his Dad can forgive this uncalled for betrayal. I cannot imagine doing something like this to one of my parents, regardless of what they said, or what I believed about what they said. In fact, I would love to have my parents back on this earth every day. This is ridiculous, and I am not happy that Dr. Phil made the remark about Dog dodging coming on the show, however it was worded. It really was uncalled for.

Can you blame Dog?

I honestly can not blame Dog for not wanting to attend the Dr. Phil show.  I think Dr. Phil does a nice job talking about some topics and making a good impact, however there are also times where he can make people look very bad.  This is one of those cases because if Dog had decided to come to the show and Dr. Phil had the same quests he had, Dog would have been outnumbered and shamed even more.  I think a 1 on 1 interview an interview with Dog, Dr. Phil, and someone like Al Sharpton would have been much more productive.  Dog is already demonstrating that he is trying to make ammends and that he is sorry for his actions.  Throwing him to a pack of wolves would not be any help to Dog to better educate him and help him see his wrong doings.  I think he already sees that and is looking to better educate himself.  Just as Master P. said he was ashamed of using those words in his lyrics.  It's okay for him to use those words and realize he made poor choices in doing that.  However, since Dog did it, it isn't okay and he should be torn apart and furthered humilated?  I don't think so.  In our world we will never be able to attain harmony between people.  There will always be someone in the world who hates another person because of their color, eyes, hair, attitude, beliefs, and so forth.  Our best hope of minimizing the spread of ideas and thoughts like this is to educate the world.

I feel that A&E should supsend Dog's tapings and airings for the time being.  Give him a chance to express his remorse and work on improving his character.  Dog stated in Larry King Live that he is working with his Pastor a Life Coach, and trying to educate himself further to have a stronger vocabulary that would also prevent him from using the "N" word or any type of swear word.  Let him work on this for a few weeks, see how he is doing, then resume taping and airing of his shows.  What kind of nation and world would we be living in if we don't given people a chance to make changes, especially someone who could further help the cause of teaching people to accept one another regardless of their differences.  Instead when someone makes a mistake we tend put those people down and throw them out like they are bad people.  A&E would be smart to let Dog improve himself then demonstrate to the world that people can make mistakes, make changes, and still be a role model.  It is idiotic to think that famous people are perfect and never make mistakes, they are humans just like us.  No one is perfect.

Answer the question

Dr. Phil is pretty adamant that his regular fighting family guests answer his questions, and he gets a little frustrated when they just rant, rather than answering the questions.  However, the guests today were not held to that high standard.  When asked a question, they just replied with a prepared speech.

11/09 Debate Dr. Phil and the Bishop

Quote From: sdellasa

I think it's awful the race wars that are going on in this country!  However, I think this show is making it worse by having people like Al Sharpton on there to overexpose the issue.  What about all the other races who are defamed because of their color?  WHy is it always about the African Americans?  You never see a show where a hispanic, Jew, white, or Asian are discussing racial attacks!  And you know it has happened to them!....it just seems as though the AA community is always out to overexpose the issue.

Why is it wrong for a white person to call a black person a N***** but its not only okay, its "cool" for a black person to call a blac person a N****. I'm not racist, though I can see how this kind of media causes more of it in our country. Its truey a disgusting idea that Dogs head is on the chopping block for what he said. After all the very GOOD things he's done for society. Yes< I realize he makes a lot of money doing it. There is no crime in that. Its a VERY scarey day when we can sue a man for what they say or call you. Bye bye freedom of speach. Let the criminals run the streets, and sue the working man. Sad is all I can say.

While I'm on it. One of the reasons I rarely watch Dr.Phi is because he invites people on his show, listens to their problems on national tv..while getting paid a handsome income..WHY on earth people go on his show is beyond me all he does is send you to someone else anyway, guess if I was going to go as far as to air my dirty laundry on national tv to get the all mighty Dr. Phil to help me, I'd want his help not to be sent off to "someone in my area" and he'll stay in touch. Its laughable.

By the way NO conservitive American agree's with this giving the pill to children with or with out a parents concent. Its the kind of free society we live in. Democrats all responsible for this. This free life and fancy living will never pay off in the end. Parents no longer have control over what we want our childern to know, or have access to. Any girl in America can get the pill yet they can't get an asprin for a headache with out a parents permission. Go figure.

NAACP needs to deal with the real issues

Why does the NAACP and these so called leaders of the Black community not address the real issues? I only see Mr. Sharpton up in arms about these small issues but I have never seen a press conference of him attacking the fact that so many African Americans are on welfare, or school dropouts, or leading the nation in single parent homes. Recently in Peoria, IL 22 high school students were ticketed for walking in the middle of the road after school and seriously blocking traffic. Finally after so many complaints the Police Department responded. And so did the NAACP. Picking city hall because heaven forbid the police ticket black students for breaking the law. (Not to mention that the schools had been giving announcements daily to the students that it was illegal to walk in the middle of the street and to please use the sidewalks.) Unfortunately the police caved and said they would take away the tickets if the students attended a school assembly about the issue. The students are still in the middle of the road after school, blocking traffic and ignoring motorists. I wish these African American leaders would get their heads out of the sand and address the real problems facing their community. I should send them some of the speeches that Bill Cosby has been giving lately.

You are mostly right

Quote From: skropk1

I am 23 years old and a college student. I was watching the Dr. Phil show and decided to post on the message boards because one topic really hit home with me. I have read in the new several times about the school that was going to offer birth control to 11+ yearolds. When I was 14 years old I became sexually active and while I feel it wasnt the 'best' decision..."everone was doing it" and as a teenager as much as you dont want to be a follower you dont want to be an outcast either. As I got older I became more attuned to my body and love and sex and everything started to make sense! All of a sudden I shed the old thoughts that what I was doing was wrong and all of a sudden it was just another part of life- growing up, haha as a 14 yearold, like duh--- ;) Looking back I wish that there had been more available to me in the way of birth control and INFORMATION on where to receive such things. God- once I found my local planned parenthood location (took forever) I was saved- and giving all of my friends (who also needed sex ed help) the address. They give free birth control and testing and healthcare depending on the state in which you live. The fact is that although birthcontrol doesnt protect against stds, I wish someone had made it available to me. Abstinence based sex education dosent work. DOESNT WORK. By the time I was in 10th grade I knew NO one who was a virgin... so parents, get over your own insecurities and realize that girls were having babies at 12 years old since man was created and its time to be resopnsible for your children by making sure they respect themselves enough to know that they should try very hard not to ruin their lives by getting pregnant too early or getting stds... and instead of preaching abstinance (which is near impossible) teach them responsibility and share with them the resources available

I do think that parents and schools should teach abstinance but also say that if you are going to do this it is most important to use protection. I am so sick of parents not teaching their kids about sex when there are 11 year olds getting pregnant. I am 24 and am raising my sixteen year old sister who is a virgin and plans to stay that way for a while. I told her about sex and the possibility of getting STD's even while using condoms. I also made sure to tell her that almost all guys her age and even a little older have no clue what they are doing. They do not care about pleasing the girl, they only care about themselves. So that it really would be pointless to do it because it would suck. Why don't parents talk to their kids about this?  She kknows that I know what I am talking about because I have been with so many men of all ages. That I am not proud of but it taught me a lot.

the golden rule

I am a white mother of 3 married to an african american man.  i hope that i am teaching my children the golden rule.  my kids get the both of best worlds, they are learning that not all people look like them, but do feel like everyday 8,7,6 year olds.  i hope that people understand (all people) that the n word is such a negative word regardless of who uses it and until we teach our children about the golden rule we will live in a hateful world.  i live in baton rouge louisiana and i am the minority, i don't even feel like that because i live in such a great community and all the people i have come across since moving here 6 years ago from camp pendleton california.  i just hope that all of you who read this think about being nice to one another and just remember that we are all loved by the good Lord and try to walk in his image.

thanks for reading

kelly
