From a celebrity’s controversial meltdown caught on tape to nooses cropping up around the country, Dr. Phil and Bishop T.D. Jakes tackle tough racial issues. First up, Dog the Bounty Hunter spewed slurs in a phone conversation with his son, Tucker, and used the N-word repeatedly when referring to Tucker’s black girlfriend, Monique. Monique’s mother, Linda Shinnery, joins the Dr. Phil show via satellite and says she was appalled by Dog’s tirade. Should the reality TV star lose his job over a private conversation? Civil rights activist Al Sharpton, rapper Master P, and BET correspondent Jeff Johnson weigh in. Then, nooses, a symbol of hatred for African-Americans, are cropping up more and more across the country – from Jena, Louisiana to Columbia University in New York. Najee Ali, founder and co-director of Project Islamic Hope, shares his views on empowering the black community and combating stereotypes. Don’t miss this intense debate about racism and sensitivity in America, and find out how you can educate your children. Join the discussion.

Friday's Show

I feel this way, first off Reverend Al Sharpton is a racist, I once viewed a surmon he was giving, wow!!!!,  it was so disgusting against the white race. Secondly, this young lady recorded this phone converstion with hopes, she would be able to turn it over to the media. Why?????????????

I am questioning her integrity. How did this get taped? How did this get out to the public? This was vengeful on her part? I would ask Dog's son and his girlfriend that very question.  If this man wants to speak in his own home, in his office and on his own phone to HIS children, he has the right. There still are prejudise people in this world, so you are going to distroy his LIFE.

racism in government

i believe your goverment also has a responsibliy in sowing the public that racism is wrong and wont be tollerated. i have noticed that your government has not been doing this, for example during katrina the government did not and has still not come through with sufficant aid for the victom. in the recent fires they responded so fast that it wasn't even funny. do you see the racisim?  the people of katrina were mosty poor or african american while the victoms of the fire were mainly middle class to rich white people

Teens and birth controll

I have  a 16 year old daughter and I have always been open and honest with her about birth controll.  I told her that she is the only one that could decide when she is ready for sex and no one else could know how she feels but her, but I also told her not to give herself to anyone until she was sure about who that person really is and that she truely loves them because her virginity is something that she can only give once, make sure it is someone that loves and respects you, and there will be no shame in it.  She has been dating the same guy for 18 months and he is very respectful to her and to her family, I couldn't have picked a better guy than him.  They love each other and she does not regret anything that she has done with him.  I don't think there is anything wrong with birth controll but I don't think that the schools should have the right to give it to our kids, that is up to the parents to be open as possible to their kids and let them know that they can come to you and talk to you about any thing without judgement.

My daughter to this day comes to me and talks to me about anything.  So I feel I done something right by opening that door for her to let her know that I am not just her mother but also her friend that she can trust to give her honest opinions and advice on everything she needs to know about.

11/09 Debate Dr. Phil and the Bishop

Quote From: diana32

I was really disappointed in Dr Phil when I saw the Rev Al Sharpton on today's show.  It seems anytime something is said regarding Blacks - there he is - He is the biggest racist I have ever seen and I don't have any respect for the man.  I think he is keeping racism alive, just to keep himself in the spotlight.

It was nice to see the Rapper admit to being wrong and clean up his act - The response from the audience - clapping and cheers was encouraging.  Was this just because he's Black??  Where is the forgiveness for Dog - who also apologized for his indiscretion ?? Fact is that all of us 40 + , White people were brought up with prejudice - Yes it is taking a long time to readjust  - but we lived with it for a long time.   When we agree to stop  using the N word and live by the Golden Rule - it should not be taken lightly - It is a big step in the right direction.  Seems the Rev is always there when someone (White) tries to take this step, just to knock them down and ruin their lives in one way or another.  Why do we give him that power?  The more he cries Racism the longer it will take to erradicate it.  Of course he isn't the only one to blame - the Black Rappers are certainly doing their share.  They use the N word more than anyone.  Make up your minds - either you hate it or you don't.

I don't think what Dog said was anyones business.  He was involved in a private conversation with his son, who should have known better than to make it public.  Our society reinforces bad behavior.  Dog's Son got the publicity he wanted by betrayal and the public is all over it.  The kid should have gotten a smack in the face and told not to air his dirty laundry in the streets.

I also think that what Dog said was misconstrued.  He merely stated that the N word was used frequently in his house.  He also stated that it didn't have the meaning that we are all accustomed to.  I understand why he didn't appear on the show today - It would have been like volunteering for your own lynching.  How many times will he have to apologize before it is accepted?  He has overcome many issues in his life and he has shared them all in the hopes of educating people and preventing them from going down the wrong road.  I think his show has a positive effect on the younger generation and that is not an easy feat in today's society.

I really hope the network decides to put his show back on - I know that I for one will boycott  the A&E Channel if they don't.

Thank God for rev.Al Sharpton. I for one am very glad that he is there to help the "blacks "as you say when his assistance is needed. What is wrong with that.? Most of the time when he has intervened on someones behalf is because there is no-one else who will. It is true that he gets the media attention, which I feel is appropriate, otherwise how will the  correct information get out?  Especially if the black person has been wrongly accused. You can bet that when a black person has been accused not found guilty but accused, their picture is splashed across the media, but if they are innocent and need assistance from a well know activist, what is wrong with that?

The difference between Rev.Sharpton and Dog Chapman, is that we all know what the rev. will do, we know what he stands for. We know he isn't a racist. Dog is, regardless of when or where he used the n word. The n word is unacceptable, no matter in what context you use it, no matter that it is a private conversation or spoken aloud. That is the problem with all you folks who were brought up in prejudice, you think it is ok and we need to get over it!

I was a fan of dog, I no longer am. and I will continue to be a fan Of Dr. Phil and Rev. Al Sharpton. and as far as A&E returning Dog back on the network.I say NO, No ,No, No.

Wait and take a breath

If Dog is fired for what he said in a private moment in a diverse cultural setting, then everybody is guilty. Common' We do need to clean up our act and speak more polite and respectful. But look what is on TV and influencing our younger generation. I feel sorry for my granddaughter, The Dog does not need to be fired for a "word" look at the big picture what he does in society. He is helping. He may have said that in the peace of his home. But for his son to turn on him and sell it to a tabloid, that is the greater sin!!! I am appalled.

Dog

Hey people get over it already.....Dog was having a PRIVATE conversation with a family member who betrayed him. If I were Dog that kid would be headed to court  for slander and loss of income. This is just another example of how sick and twisted our society is when someone can get a big pay day at some one else's expense

Shame on you Dr. Phil!

I am one of your biggest fans but not today !!! There are many people who talk the talk but Dog the bounty hunter is one of the rare people who actually walks the walk. He helps people that most of us would probably cross the street to avoid. All colors and races... he does something that nobody else does ; he taks to them. He offers his help to get them to change their evil ways... no matter howt ey look. He himseilf is a minority, if I am not mistaken: part native american. The Dr. Phil show owes Duane Chapma and his family an apoligy. Those of us who watch his show now that this man tries to live his life much in the same matter than Jesus did when he was on earth. Somebody forgot to inform Dr. Phil of the true nature of this man. If I know dog, he will not even defend himself so I am doing it for him.

Racial Slur

I think that Dog should not have the right to continue with his show, because of this slur. He is in the public eye and should maintain his awareness at all times. Even though the conversation was private he did not and should not have ever used that word. It shows what he was taught growing up. He is an adult and should have known better. My opinion of him just flew out the window. I for one was taught growing up that the word was not appropriate.

All his tears were not genuine when they showed him. He was thinking about his show;well he should have thought about that before that was ever said. I think the word sets generations back by using it.

I am offended by a celebrity of this nature to use that word. I think he deserves what he got. I am glad that A & E pulled the show. They are a very reputible network.

I really feel sorry for Tucker's girlfriend for this being said about her. If we put ourselves in her position we would feel the same way, to know that some of the public still feels alright about using the word.

Dog and the Witch Hunt

Dog was saying that you can't use those words on the air, so why are you (pardon the expression) hanging him for it?  I don't see a show here.  As long as you tell someone what will hurt you someone will take you up on it.  In other words you are creating copy cats.  Look at what he does (including public prayer) and look at where he is from.  We all knew he was going to be a little rough around the edges going in.  His atty. probably told him not to go on the air and I don't blame him.  Note that one of your guests did the same thing.
