From a celebrity’s controversial meltdown caught on tape to nooses cropping up around the country, Dr. Phil and Bishop T.D. Jakes tackle tough racial issues. First up, Dog the Bounty Hunter spewed slurs in a phone conversation with his son, Tucker, and used the N-word repeatedly when referring to Tucker’s black girlfriend, Monique. Monique’s mother, Linda Shinnery, joins the Dr. Phil show via satellite and says she was appalled by Dog’s tirade. Should the reality TV star lose his job over a private conversation? Civil rights activist Al Sharpton, rapper Master P, and BET correspondent Jeff Johnson weigh in. Then, nooses, a symbol of hatred for African-Americans, are cropping up more and more across the country – from Jena, Louisiana to Columbia University in New York. Najee Ali, founder and co-director of Project Islamic Hope, shares his views on empowering the black community and combating stereotypes. Don’t miss this intense debate about racism and sensitivity in America, and find out how you can educate your children. Join the discussion.

11/09 Debate Dr. Phil and the Bishop

Quote From: pebblesajj

In this day and age you must be precise in how we lable each other.  So he made a slur.  So are we politicly correct or not.  We are all brought up in different eras and each slang is a product of the times.  I am so tired of being corrected on my language as it be right or wrong according to political correct.  We have done all of society some wrong by labeling but like the old saying goes we can not please all of the people all of the time but we can please some of the people part of the time,  I think as individuals we all need to grow up and realize that if someone makes a comment that is not to our liking realize that it was not directed at you personnaly.  We are suppose to be teaching our children to be tolerent of others differences.  How can we teach that when every time we utter a word it is analyised and picked apart.

You may be any nationality but we are all AMERICANS.

                                             Thank God for our freedoms

There is a very big different between a label that may not be considered politically correct anymore, and a hateful derogatory slur that has a history as painful as the "n" word does.  Calling someone that and being corrected has nothing to do with being politically incorrect, it has to do with how hurtful and hateful that word is.  It can't be compared to say calling someone black and be told that you should have said African American.  To suggest that teaching our children that using the "n" word is to teach them to be tolerant of people's differences is absurd and ignorant, and really very disturbing.  We should not be perpetuating this type of hate by teaching it to the next generation.

Dog the Bounty Hunter Show should stay on!!!

I'm amazed that this is even a topic on your show. When one of the Baldwin brothers were blind sided by a vicious intentional scandal, everyone believed it was the wrong thing for him to speak to his daughter the way he did, but they can understand the frustration of a parent and the situation he was placed in. It was a private conversation that was publicized for the purpose of destroying someones character. The worst racist that I know is Al Sharpton and he is the worst offender because of his ability to broadcast to so many audiences. This type of show causes people to feel defensive and take sides. I have nothing against the black race as a whole. I have black neighbors and black friends. One of my best girlfriends calls her black boyfriend a 'Monkey' and I laugh. Should I lose my job for that? I can speak freely at home and to my children. I know the rules at my place of employment and would never speak a racist remark. But should my personal conversations to my children be broadcasted on TV. I think NOT!!! I don't believe the caucasion race is responsible for the downfall of the negro race; not in this day and age. Have you listened to the news from Philadelphia lately? I know about the point system in colleges and the workplace. My white son is a minority across the country. He doesn't fit into anyones quota. As a single white Mother for many years, I know what prejudice is. I watch Dog the Bounty Hunter and look forward to the show. It's just as entertaining in it's own right as the Dr. Phil Show. At least when the show is over, it's over and I don't feel the stress of so many dysfunctional people every day of the week. I'd like you to monitor the Tom Joyner show and let me know how often you hear them criticize, humiliate and dehumanize the white race but we're (white race) too sophisticated to make a Dr. Phil segment, because I guess jealousy is the highest form of flattery.

Race

Quote From: iwishuwould

African-Americans do not have the power to be racist.  African-Americans do not control anything.  This country was founded by and has been since run under a doctrine of systematic racism.  How can everyone overlook that?

Are you saying that African-Americans in no way can be racist?

Please explain, I think I have misunderstood your post.

Ok

This is for those of you don't blame Dog for not going on the show. In a way I understand why he didn't but onthe other hand it would have given him a way to explain himself. I am not saying that he should. Yes it was a private conversation. We all say things we don't really mean when we talking with family and friends. The problem is that everyone has taken it way too seriously and it has gotten out of hand. Maybe if he did talk about it and get people to see things from his point of view then at least he could say that he tried to make things right again.

Honestly I think blacks should really back off white people. They want to claim that everyone is racist but it is them who are. Not every white person is racist. Many of the so-called racist are like me and don't hate them because they are black but we hate trasy people whites included. Also I do not think that anyone should use the N word for any reason. White or black they should all stop. Me included. I have used the word myself at times to describe the trashy ones. I do try not to. What I say most of the time is trash. For those of you who want to say stuff about slavery. Well really the Muslims started the slave trade not white people. Also it was the Africans who sold their own people into slavery. The Europeans did not go there and just started taking people.

Another thing, If you are black and have your pants down to your knees expect to be called the N word

If you misuse the word is, expect to be callted the N word.

If you have 5 kids and don't who the father is to any of them, expect to be called the N word.

If you work at a fast food place and you greet the customer by saying "what is you want" expect to be called the N word.

If you are a black man who tries to sleep with anything female, expect to be called the N word.

If you are a Mexican man and try to sleep with anything female or even just stare at them like you are undressing them with your eyes, expect to be called a wetback.

And so on.

Now about the birth control to young kids. If parents watched their kids, talked about sex to their kids, and thier children felt loved and acepted at home their wouldn't be any 11 year olds getting pregnant. I do believe that the schools should get the parents permission first.

birth control

I agree that having sex at a young age is disastrous.  However, as a victim of incest 48 years ago, I well understand that birth control would have helped.  It amuses me that males are so insistent young girls be kept pure, yet it is males who rape, stalk on the Internet and in the real world, sell the image of 11 yr old sexpots, etc.   I learned quite young to live in fear, not just of intercourse, but of results.  So, gentlemen, I understand in your world, none of these horrid things would occur.  However, in the real world, all females, regardless of age, are at risk.  Anything to reduce the horrendous results of males using young females is a step forward.  Preach, pray, wring your hands all you like -- reality is that no female is safe and pregnancy can be the extra punishment for being victimized.  Sorry about that, but that's reality.

Debate Dr. Phil and the Bishop

Quote From: james04

I am a little confused about. what just heard what Dog said. However it was a personal call to his son then his son tape the  call and then sold it for money, I don't think it was right for what dog said but it was a personal call it wasn't said on his show our in public. I don't think Dog need to come on the Dr.Phil show because if Dog son never tape and sold the personal call this would never be talk about. sometime people say wrong words on the phone so that mean we should start tape are friends and family member and start selling to make money. what people say on a personal call should stay personal. Because we have the Government  all ready taping are phone calls and looking on what we look at on are compters.
were is AL.Sharpton when African American kills white American. Dr Phil. made you can have show about matter.

ALL persons can be racist

Quote From: iwishuwould

African-Americans do not have the power to be racist.  African-Americans do not control anything.  This country was founded by and has been since run under a doctrine of systematic racism.  How can everyone overlook that?
All persons stereotype by nature.  Just like all persons feel more comfortable in their in-group of like peoples, whatever that may be, unless making a conscience effort to expand their knowledge of others.  All persons have the power to be racist, prejudice and descriminate against persons of different in-groups.  You are correct that in America specifically the Euro-Americans have held rule but that in no way means that African-Americans can not be racist or any other group for that matter.  Maybe you are confusing the definition of racism?  Have you ever thought or made comments about, let's say, Mexican Americans, White Trash, Chinese?  There are people in each diversity that hate people from another diversity.  Racism has nothing to do with power.  Actually racism is due to a lack of power, or more exactly, understandings of people who are different than yourself.

Dog

Quote From: beckie78

What happened to our freedom of Speech??!!! I think it is totally wrong for them to take him off the air!!!! I Think he is a Good man.. his son is the reason why this all started he seen $$$$$$ .....  And i disagree with dr.phil and everyone else that was on there today... its ok for all the brother's to say the N word but when a white person does it it is wrong???????

Jeff Johnson, one of the men on the show, said Dogs show shouldn't be cancelled for something he said in a private converstation, and went on to say many other stars may say racist things in the private of there home, but they shouldn't lose there job over it, for speaking freely in there private lives.

But I totally agree what has happened to freedom of speech, let the show go on and if people stand up against it and don't watch it then it will get low ratings and be cancelled on that. Which I agree with.

The Other Half

I wonder how much research  went into the birth control to 11 Yr. olds at school piece.  This is happening elsewhere and has been ongoing. Devils Lake, ND  has put  pre-teen girls on BC.  It sounds outrageous until you look closer.  Some of these girls are Native American and come from homes where they are sexually exploited (more common than you would like to know) and the government does nothing to protect them, often allowing known offenders to return to the home immediately, and telling the child to shut up.

Corruption in Tribal Councils is rampant and a large number of these offenders are related to powerful families and laugh at the courts.  Tribal police do not investigate rapes and do not investigate child abuse.  They do often, mock those who try to file complaints.

Families that try to protect their children and insist on reporting can have their homes taken from them with less than 1 hour's notice.

Elections are rigged and Senators and Congressmen  support Tirbal Govt.s and dismiss letters of outrage or pleas for help from the 'lesser' members of the tribes; the ones with no money and no power.

Incest and children conceived from incest rape in those communities, is commonplace.

The child put on BC Pills is a child already known to be at risk.  What would you have them do?  Sex is already being taught at home and in the community by the rape method.

So, as idealistic as it would be to have a childhood without precocious sexual exploitation, the situation is, In Indian Country something you cannot relate to.

Until Indians get the same civil rights and protections under the laws as we all do, and there are meaningful changes in how things are done out there, do not condemn the one program that seeks to give some of these children a chance to survive without the added burden of pregnancy by rape, incest rape and child molest.

Take a look at the programs in more depth.
Sincerely,
Cat
