LEESBURG - A 17-year-old beat another teen in the head with an ax after he discovered his friend was dating his mother, police said today.

Dayne Simons turned himself in Sunday afternoon and was arrested on charges of attempted homicide, Leesburg police Lt. Rob Hicks said.

Simons is charged with beating Jody Ross, 19, in the head with the bladed and blunt sides of an ax, Hicks said.

Leesburg police responded to a 911 call for help at 5:05 p.m. Friday. They discovered Ross on the living room floor of a residence on County Road 470 with a cut to the left side of his face and blunt force injuries to his head.

Ross lost consciousness during the attack. Paramedics transported him to Leesburg Regional Medical Center where he was in stable condition.

Simons' mother, Maria Mines, 35, told police her son was angry because she was dating the victim, Hicks said.

The truth?

I presume that comment was intended to be insulting toward Dr Phil? I know what the news is saying, but I am very curious what the truth is regarding the Dr Phil show's involvement in posting bail for that teen girl? I know from my profession that a high profile case such as this one, the media can easily twist information... And unfortunately often!

VERY DISAPPOINTED

My wife has been watching Dr. Phil for about a year now and I have watched it on a few occasions with her.  I am very disappointed his staff member bailed out the teenage girl involved in the horrible beating of the teenager in Florida. I don't buy the resolution " we spoke to the person ". How bout " I had no knowledge this person was going to do this and I was in no way involved" . Either Dr. Phil comes out and tells the truth about why this occurred or he loses alot of viewers.

Having watched Dr Phil for a couple of years myself (I DVR every episode), I have seen in the few instances of Dr Phil's alleged questionalbe involvement in the headlines! Correct me if I'm wrong, but he almost always airs a show to clear up the media mess and allegations! If he had any involvement and/or knowledge of bailing the girl out, I'm sure he has a valid, yet profressional, reason for doing so! I'm sure the Dr Phil show will soon reveal the truth and set the record straight! Please believe that the media can take a lot of things out of context! Guess we will see!

Dr. Phil in the news

While the media is blowing this whole thing with the teen girls beating and Dr. Phil and his connection to it totally out of porportion, I do think that Dr. Phil needs to cancel his Dr. Phil Now show.  Leave the reporting (true reporting on the facts or sleazebag trashing) to those in that specific industry.  The sad thing about this whole thing, including the Brittany story, is that no matter how much The Doc fixes and helps those in need his image is going to be held in question if he has any staff out there trying to get "a story" in any way shape or form.  Does (or should) he really be associated in any kind of reporting of current news stories?  Stick to what you know Doc because you do a fantastic job at it!  I am so sorry this whole ordeal is happening to the family of that teen girl and to the Dr. Phil staff.  I know how drastically details can get twisted in a big hurry especially in criminal cases no matter who's involved and who is just trying to help.  But when you get your nose into areas such as trying to be a reporter of news when you are actually in the psychiatry field, you will get crushed by the people who are THE ONES THAT ARE OUT FOR THE RATINGS AND THE STORY no matter how much they lie to get it!

Good luck Dr. Phil and stay strong!!
