(Original Air Date: 11/15/07) Dr. Phil continues the story of a young woman who made international headlines when she ran away to Palestine to be with a man she met on the Internet when she was just 16. Katherine was stopped by the FBI and brought back home, but two years later and now an adult, she’s left the United States again to be with Abdullah, the man she says she loves and wants to marry. Katherine’s terrified family thinks she is being brainwashed, and may never be allowed to return home. They say they’ve witnessed Abdullah’s violent temper when he’s verbally abused her over the phone. Now, in an exclusive interview via satellite, Dr. Phil speaks with Katherine and Abdullah together. Is Abdullah lying about letting Katherine return home? Is this couple already married? Talk about the show here.

Find out what happened on the show.

It doesn't take a board certified psychologist to see she is in danger. If things were perfectly fine then why does he have to monitor every phone call she makes? Why is he so rude and disrespectful to her family? Come on now and put two and two together. You don't have to know this couple to see that something doesn't add up. There many be many of Christians living well in the middle east, but why are they there? Do they long to live in that country, or are they working there? I cannot imagine that someone with a sound mind would WANT to live there. Also, comparing Egypt to Palestine is like comparing a prison to a five star hotel.

The christians that are living in palestine are palestinian christians. just like being palestinian muslim. they were born there and live there. being christian or muslim is not being from a certain country. There are plenty of American women and men in abusive realtionships. Why is it that people think arab men are only abusive? Im pretty sure there are more white men in this counrty that beat their wives for damn reason, but no one stereotypes them. She might be in danger because of the man she chose not because he is arab.

11/15 A Daughter in Danger? Part 2

Quote From: msdrphilfan

I totally agree. I believe the only reason he wants this young, naive American teenager to marry him is to gain American citizenship and come to the United States with plans to harm Americans. I believe every American that lived through the horror of 9/11 should be very skeptical of any foreigner that wants to marry an American citizen after meeting them on the internet and having known them in person for two weeks.  I know that American citizens meet and fall in love with people from other countries all the time and that is fine. But for someone to want to marry an 18 year old girl he has been corresponding with on the internet and personally has known for two weeks is insane!!! I pray she realizes what she is getting into and gets out quick before it is too late. This is nothing but teenage rebellion and she will regret it for the rest of her life!!!
Do you think peple have nothing better to do with their lives than to plot a suicude bombing of America?  If he needs a green card it''s certainly not to bomb our country, but to get the hell out of the horrible life in his country.  On the other hand... maybe you are right and we have to lose our sleep over every illegal (and legal) Palestinian and Middle Eastern immigrant that is plotting the demise of our Motherland RIGHT NOW!!!!!!!!!!!

11/15 A Daughter in Danger? Part 2

Quote From: lorax41

He admitted to calling her bitch, whore and slut and then said that's normal. I'm sorry but it doesn't take a thimbleful  of brains to recognise that this man has a controlling personality with an attitude of contempt for women. There are red flags all over this relationship. She must get out. When did verbal abuse of women become normal? Maybe in his culture but not in mine.
Believe me it not normal in Palestinian culture to treat their wives that way. Its not normal in any culture but it still happens in every culture. Shes a little girl she doesnt know what true love is and she happened to pick the wrong guy.

middle east: not that bad

I just wanted to let that mother know that the middle east is not as dangerous as the media makes it out to be.  I lived in Kuwait for over 14 years and I was married to a Kuwaiti for the first twelve.  I finally returned to the USA to live with my current husband and my children live with me here.  They go back to Kuwait every summer to stay with their father.  Although Abdullah didn't seem honest and the red flags should definitely sound off, I want the mother to know that women have more rights than the media portrays and it truly is a safe place.  Even our own state department has statistics showing that more Americans are killed per capita in the US than in the middle east.  I think if Dr. Phil has them on the show again, he should have a guest, that is  a religious figure, who can talk to Abdullah and show him how this is not Islamic at all.

money

How did Katherine have money to fly to the Middle East?  Seems the Mother hasn't been thinking either.  Most high school students wouldn't have the price of a ticket for Palestine.  Now the Mother worries.  Seems a little strange to me.

Thank you for becoming you again.  I was ready to stop viewing your show last  year as I felt you went for the laugh and treated your clients with disrespect.  I don't think you help someone by yelling at them and thinking that will change their behavior.  Welcome back.

in the news about this here!

Why would there be? A woman from the US is visiting a friend in Israel.

(Her friend may be a dangerous, manipulative jerk but so are a lot of people.)

danger part2

I have read the comments of todays show. I can only say that anyone who believes that this young, beautiful girl has a chance to come home, PRAY for her and her safe return to her family and to the people who are worried and love her. I can not know what her mother feels, but watching the show made me think of my own sister who is 19 and left home last year for a guy who controls her and does not let her see her family only for his benefit. I know he hits her and is abusive in other ways, but hopefully Katherine and my sister will be in the hands of GOD and will both return safely to their families.

11/15 A Daughter in Danger? Part 2

Quote From: rarebeauty

I knew the day  I saw the previews on this show I had to watch it. I am currently in the same situation, dating a man although not in the middle east, but outside the country. He and I have also agreed to be married, and there is a since of rush on his part but not on mine. Although for us it has been almost a year since we first met, and I have fallen in love and plan to marry him as well.  I felt the need to get to know him first. It is hard to know of someone that many miles away, the phone, and internet and lettters helps a little, but its not like spending time in person.  I have questioned him extensivelly as to why he wants to marry an american, and the answer is always the same, vaguely I just always wanted an american. This I hate to hear, but is his reaction.  I will admit that I am afraid as hell to go to his country, and I worry if he is lying to me as well. I am a lot older than katherine and my fiance is a lot older than her boyfriend.  However my fiance does not use profanity, is not a muslim, and loves me totally. I dont quite understand the fuss, although the middle east is a very scary place to be, and i would never go there.

If that's the only thing they say to you "I want an American " I would really question their motives.  He gets a free pass to the U.S. if he Marys you.  Anyone can say anything or pretend to be anything on the Internet. Scam artists come from every where and from every religion. Just because your older does not make you wiser.  Scam artists are good at what they do and they find a person weakness and use it to their advantage. If you are worrying that is your compass  that something is not right.

11/15 A Daughter in Danger? Part 2

Quote From: auburnjenn

As nice as this mother seems, she has the classic "BUT I WANT HER TO LIKE ME" syndrome. She should have stopped trying to be Katherine's "friend" -- and started being her parent -- many  years ago. Unfortunately the damage has been done and there is not much she can do about it now. I feel for her, but the mother is very much to blame here. When Katherine came back home at 16, her computer and cell phone should have been put in the dumpster and she should have been under practical house arrest until she could be trusted. But that didn't happen...and look where they are now.
I agree with you completely.  That mother didn't do what she should have when the girl was 16.  My sister is the same with my niece.  My niece was communicating with a couple of bad influences over the phone.  She even wanted her mom to send her to New York to visit one person.  My sister took her phone away, but when my niece snuck it back she didn't do anything about it.  I told my sister she needs to get rid of the phone and monitor the computer use, but she doesn't enforce anything.  What can I do though?  My sister is much older than me and she thinks she knows it all.
