(Original Air Date: 11/15/07) Dr. Phil continues the story of a young woman who made international headlines when she ran away to Palestine to be with a man she met on the Internet when she was just 16. Katherine was stopped by the FBI and brought back home, but two years later and now an adult, she’s left the United States again to be with Abdullah, the man she says she loves and wants to marry. Katherine’s terrified family thinks she is being brainwashed, and may never be allowed to return home. They say they’ve witnessed Abdullah’s violent temper when he’s verbally abused her over the phone. Now, in an exclusive interview via satellite, Dr. Phil speaks with Katherine and Abdullah together. Is Abdullah lying about letting Katherine return home? Is this couple already married? Talk about the show here.

Find out what happened on the show.

im muslim.. were happy to be coverd so only the guys that look at us is our husband..unlike you guys dress so people can see everything you have.. people just listen to the media thats where they think they know about muslims.. why dont people just read up on it and get the truth ..instead of saying what they dont know nothing about...
I respect your religion and your beliefs. If you prefer to be covered,  then so be it. But, on the other hand if WE dress so people can see everything we have, that is also OUR right. I think it is very disrespectful to make a broad statement like that, saying what you don't know nothing about.

How did it go?

How did it go with her? In Norway I can't see the newest episodes, it's almost only old shows... Anyone know? (sorry my English, I hope you understand)

Did she fly home?

I am very worried about Katherine and I'm wondering whether or not she flew home on Friday. I certainly hope so. I am an attorney and I once saw a case where a Muslim Extremist threatened to murder his daughter if she was not raised as a Muslim. I also worry because the odds are that Katherine has built up this relationship in her mind over the years. She's now been there for two weeks, and I'm willing to bet that he's not the man that she thought he would be.  Now, she either is scared of him and doesn't want to tell him that she wants to come home or is terribly embarassed that she will have to admit defeat to all those who opposed the relationship from the beginning. While not usually on this level, such is a lesson that almost all 18 year old girls have to learn at one time or another. I just hope that this lesson doesn't cost her life.

I'm not Muslim, but there's no way I'd let anyone but my husband see what I've seen in public. Especially jiggling boobs almost falling out of skimpy tank tops. No way I'd got out dressed like Katherine. My shorts, when it's too hot for jeans, are at least mid-thigh. And, if a top doesn't cover my bra, it doesn't cover enough of me to be worn in public. Besides, you can dress decently and still have fun. Yesterday, I saw a group of Muslims having the time of their lives. River rafting!

Katherine did eventually fly home. She broke her promise to fly home on Friday. She let Abdullah talk her out of it. But, she did take a later flight. A month or so she flew home, Dr Phil taped a follow-up. Katherine and her family were in the studio.  Abdullah was on satellite feed. And, Katherine "officially" broke up with him.

Living in la la land.....

Sorry but, she does not seem like the brightest bulb. Not to mention the fact, he IS not someone I personally would want in the USA, there is some reason why he can't get a visa or is waiting to get a visa, ummmm, let me guess what that could be......

Wake up Catherine!!!!!

Stereotypes

Quote From: michelebr

Most 18 year olds don't understand what it means to love someone and surely her parents warned her that women have no rights in the Middle East.  It's too bad she is going through this and maybe this experience will help her prevent a worse situation in the future.  I am sorry for the pain and suffering her parents are experiencing.
It is simply not true that women have no rights in the Midde East. The Middle East is made up over many countries, each with their own laws. Please do research before writing such statements.

Here, here!

Quote From: viper1967

While I do not agree with a 16, or 18 year old girl moving across the world to be with a man she barely know.  I have to say that Dr. Phil seriously disappointed me on his show due to the fact that he seemed to be painting all middle eastern men with the same brush. NOT all middle eastern or arabic men beat their wives, they don't all kidnap their families and they are NOT all lunatics.  I thought that during the show the men from the middle east were all portrayed the same way.  Not once did I hear Dr. Phil throw in something like "now don't misunderstand, we are not saying that all middle eastern men are like this".  I have been with a lebanese man for a long time now. He is wonderful, and treats me always as a princess.  He has a business partner who came to Canada  from Lebanon and married a Canadian woman. The return home to Lebanon every year for vacation with their young son, and every year they come home happy and safe.  Lets not get carried away and start to fall into the "media trap" of painting all arabic peoples and nations with the same brush.
Thanks for speaking up. It was shocking to see Palestine and Iran of over thirty years ago compared. Different regions, different religions (Palestinians are Sunni, Iranians are Shiite), and certainly different cultures and times.
