Dr. Phil follows up with a family terrified for the safety of their loved one, Katherine, a young woman who flew to the Middle East to be with Abdullah, whom she met online. When she last spoke with Dr. Phil, Katherine promised that she would return to the United States within two days, but immediately after the show, she changed her mind. Find out what happened during two failed attempts to get Katherine home, and what finally got her on a plane. Then, Katherine’s mother, Shawn, and sister, Mary, say they were overwhelmingly relieved to have her back safe, so why didn’t they greet her at the airport? Katherine joins her family onstage and offers her tearful apologies. After hearing how her actions have affected her family and Dr. Phil’s staff, will Katherine go back to Abdullah, or will she have a change of heart? Join the discussion.

Find out what happened on the show.

Young man's first love

my take on the show was that this was a very confused, frustrated and love sick young man.I was a bit taken a back when DR. Phil seemed to take the young man's attitude so personally, not considering the up bringing that he might have had.I think the message of not getting involved to soon to fast was lost.It was also obvious that the young man was very immature and was in need of counseling himself.

she'd take him back...........

Dr. Phil,

I think it is plain that Abdullah, his father and family were involved in beating a U.S. Citizen...  My question is why does our Government knowing this would ever allow Abdullah and/or his father back into this Country.  They should now be put on the list and never be allowed back into the United States again.

While I get the feeling that part of what your saying is true, Katherine was abused by Abullah.....I also believe  Katherine herself played a huge part in this mess!  I do not think she is telling the whole truth about what went on, while she is was away, I think she rather enjoyed the drama and the attention she’s gotten from this,  she played Abullah just as much as he played her! She lead him too believe that she loved him wanted too be with him, ( think she does love him )  leaving the airport going back too him........COME ON!!!!!   What is that all about?   Putting her family through a nightmare while she’s half away around the world with someone she met online!   I think she’d take him back in a heartbeat! It showed on her face when she saw him on the screen,   It would not surprise me in the least too see an update that she is back with him, she’ll get him over the states, it’s far from over with this little girl!  She needs too grow up and really owe up too what she’s put her family through, her mom looked so tired and worn out on today’s show, my heart really went out too her!

11/26 Katherine Returns

Quote From: rebeccaaqra

As I watched todays show with my Palestinian husband our reactions were opposite of the norm. While he sided with the girl and her family, I felt compassion for the young man. I felt Dr. Phil came off bias to the whole situation and turned a blind eye to the fact that the whole episode stemmed from the fact the daughter had manipulated the situation from the beginning. When all is said and done she had a fling with a boy, toying with his emotions and intentions and had her family and Dr. Phils team turn their world upside down to retrieve her when she originally left on her own recognizance.  The young man seemed genuinely upset and was not given the slightest benefit of doubt. Couldn't we say this is a case of two young kids equally making foolish young love decisions?
As a side note, I am a proud wife of a Palestinian with a beautiful infant son. I have heard all of the negative connotations of Middle Eastern men and how they treat women. While some of their stereotypical traits may hold some truth...they have a jealousy steak like a Frenchman is considered a Casanova...I find people too quick to accept that they treat women as lower than. I have experienced the opposite. The more I learn of the culture they hold women and all that they do in the highest regard, and that it takes a strong woman to see this. They often spend their lives protecting what they hold dearest, as is my case with my wonderful, beautiful husband. If you want to broaden Americas view on Middle Eastern men you are welcome to come tape our culturally blended family.

Thank you

I agree with you mostly, but I think  both K and A were idiots.  I too, have a Pakistani Muslim husband, but he finds it sad  about the "American boy" comment made by Dr. P.   I have a great relationship with my  hubby.   We argue rarely, but never curse at each other or raise our voices.  He does everything for me.  He took care of me soooo many times when i came down with the flu.  lol  And he has carried me on his back in the freezing snow to the car.  He's a great guy. :D

i think he is going to haunt her

Well I am so proud of katherine it is very hard to get passed your fears and get rid of a guy like that .

You could see it in his eyes that he has an evil temper .

Also when i saw her smokking eventually he would of beat her for that too.

I hope this show has opened alot of peoples eyes to the true dangers of mixing cultures.

Do not get me wrong i do believe that there are good people in that country but he isnt one of them.

I hope that there is a way they can stop his visa so he can no longer hurt her or her family.

After seeing how happy they were to be reunited ...........it says it all.

I myself had a white version of abdullah so they come in all colors shapes and sizes .

Thankyou Dr Phil for your continued patience with Katherine wish you would of been around when it was me . This was an awesome topic I hope many woman will learn from it .

Thanks again dr phil we need more people like you in this world and I am sure Katherine and her family agree.

finger pointing

How sad that so many folks missed the point here...this is just ONE example of internet  danger, not an indictment of Middle Eastern people. Also, remember, as with all talk shows, we do not know the FULL story. As a viewing audience, we are only given a few details to go on. This scenario fits for any and all internet predators and any and all countries. Also, adults are not immune to this, and must exercise caution as well. This started when Katharine was a minor child, under her mother's care. Even at 18, her family realized that she was not capable of  making adult decisions - thus their plea for help. I don't know many parents that would ignore their 18 yr old in such a crisis as this.

11/26 Katherine Returns

Quote From: shmigelz

First off why does every american person on Dr. Phil, Katherines family, Katherines mom, and even Dr. Phil think that she's in such 'mortal danger'? cause they live in Israel? Every single video that the Dr.Phil shot when she was in Tel Aviv seemed like a nice, normal country to me. I didn't hear any bombs going off, any guns being shot, or any planes flying over...

I personally know people who I talk to and do business with that fly back to Lebanon and Israel every year and tell me now much they love it over there and all the great things about it. The beaches, the weather, etc, etc. Their familes are their right now and are doing fine.

I mean give me a BREAK. Im sure there is MORE murders, violence, killings in the US then there is in ISRAEL, LEBANON, etc... all together..

I actually feel bad for the guy here, everyone keeps saying he's such a bad guy, everyone says he's so controlling but it can't be that bad if she flys all the way over there, not once BUT twice. Even when she got to the airport she went back. I mean, all we ever hear is how bad he is... SOoooooooo the poor guy doesn't even get the chance to stand up and speak for himself and for that I blame the Dr.Phil show...

Has he been VOILENT with Katherine?? In ANY relationship who has not had arguements, fights, verbally abused, maybe even being pushed, etc.. I'll personally guantee that happens in 90+% of ALL relationships, I don't care what anyone says.

Now Dr.Phil says she's met an 'American boy.' I mean IF the United States ever wonders why most of the rest of the world despieses them, hates them, or attacks them (World Trade Center airplane attacks, World Trade Centre bombing), attack on the US Military boat over in the middle east area I think (when they blew a hole in the side)...... Today on the Dr.Phil show is a TYPICAL example of HOW the US acts, the US treats, and how the US talks about other people and other countries like they are LESS then the US, how they don't deserve US woman to marry, how their countries are always at way (with the US more often then now, and only because the US attempt to invade them), and I can go on and on and on....

Just ask Dr. Phil how much of a REAL impact and change that the UNITED STATES has really done over in the Middle East. I mean after so called 9/11 the United States attacked Iraq.. Not a SINGLE terrorist on ANY one of those planes was from Iraq....

I really thought and expected more today from the Dr. Phil show. I mean what did you expect an 18 yr old woman to say on TV infront of 10 million people when Dr.Phil is pushing her to say things to him...

You seriously believe that there is verbal or physical abuse in 90% of relationships?  Arguing and fighting is completely different from ABUSE.  Your view of what is "normal" is severely skewed if you truly believe 9 out of 10 people are being abused at some point in their relationship.

Oh.. and Abdullah had ample opportunity to defend himself, both in the first show and in this one.  Dr. Phil never interrupted him, cut him off or censored him.  He just chose not to.  Why?  Probably because he knew all he had to say was BS!  Didn't you notice how in the last show when Dr. Phil asked him why he hadn't gotten a VISA all he did was make excuses?  On today's show he chose to use his time to lay blame on anyone whose name he could remember and dodge responsibility.

Very Lucky Girl

Dr. PhiI,

I don't believe Katherine truly knows yet how lucky she is to have had you utilize your many assets and connections to get her back here unharmed. She's very fortunate. One thing that wasn't noted on today's show that I believe was mentioned early on was that Abdullah's father had a residence here (in NY?) where she met him to get money to go meet his son in Gaza. If the father is still in the US, or the family has relatives here, Katherine could still be at risk. If he's calling her 34 times in an hour and she then changes her number, there's no telling how far he will go out of anger. There could be family members here that are not too happy with how this guy came off on national TV and want to get back at her. Her family should be very vigilant for the next several months and keep a close eye on her.

i disgree

Quote From: brownp

I disagree with you.  I don't believe that 90% of all relationships involve pushing and physical violence.  Don't you think Abdullah's parents would have been happier had he chosen someone closer to home?  I'm from Texas where we think we are the bigest and best of the US. You want to hear some fear , talk to a Texas mom whose child is going to marry someone from New York. lol  What's wrong with being partial to your own country?  Don't you think people in the Middle East think their way is best?  I think you want to turn this into a political debate, when it's really a store about a runaway girl.

I think dr phil was completely right with his comment it is a tad easier to support your childs choice in your own country.

AND give me a break that country is in war. There beliefs are different he thought it was alright to treat her the way he did and in his parents home hmmmmmm.

Glad Katherine saw him for what he is another guy looking for a blonde trophy wife.

I don't think she's done with him

I really think katherine is trying to play everyone for a fool. she is quite immature and really doesn't seem to have a grasp on reality or the gravity of the situation she put herself in. i think she also likes to create a ton of drama so that she is the center of attention. perhaps she should take some time to do volunteer work or spend time with the families of those that have gone down the same road she is on to see where she is headed.

Your husband might be a great guy. This is an immature young man who bit this girl, beat her hands with a belt and threatened to torture her family is she left him. In the US, they call that a dangerous stalker and issue orders of protection. This happens here all the time and is not limited to men of Middle Eastern descent.
