Dr. Phil follows up with a family terrified for the safety of their loved one, Katherine, a young woman who flew to the Middle East to be with Abdullah, whom she met online. When she last spoke with Dr. Phil, Katherine promised that she would return to the United States within two days, but immediately after the show, she changed her mind. Find out what happened during two failed attempts to get Katherine home, and what finally got her on a plane. Then, Katherine’s mother, Shawn, and sister, Mary, say they were overwhelmingly relieved to have her back safe, so why didn’t they greet her at the airport? Katherine joins her family onstage and offers her tearful apologies. After hearing how her actions have affected her family and Dr. Phil’s staff, will Katherine go back to Abdullah, or will she have a change of heart? Join the discussion.

Find out what happened on the show.

I believe Katherine has everyone fooled, including Dr. Phil.  This young lady is in desperate need for attention.  My God........she is off to Israel when she was under aged causing an international incident, now she finally is back in the USA after so much effort by Dr. Phil and his staff.  I hope Katherine, that I am wrong, but I believe that you will go running back again, if nothing else, just for the publicity.  And when it happens this 3rd time, I hope everyone FORGETS about you, and that you get what your have coming to you.  You might this next time be beaten, tied up, raped by numerous men for their entertainment (I am sure they will feel that you are a loose American woman who deserves what she gets.....), forced to live with this young man who will continue to bite you, beat you more often, etc.  Name calling will be the least of your problems.  As for the mother-- TAKE AWAY HER CELL PHONE, COMPUTER, ETC.  Get her into therapy!!!!!  Do not continue to walk on egg shells with this young woman.  Sometimes life is the best teacher.  I am so sorry to say this, but Katherine may end up dead with her quest for the world's attention.  I hope she proves me wrong.

And when it happens this 3rd time, I hope everyone FORGETS about you, and that you get what your have coming to you.

.................and I was afraid I sounded nasty.......................So, according to your words-the "third" time she has it "coming to her".....................................Is this some guy posting?

I agree

Quote From: asmurf221

Katherine looked as though she was wavering while talking to Abdullah.  She kept giggling and smiling when he was talking to her.  I hope she doesn't change her mind and run back to him... she didn't seem that sure about the whole thing.
I agree.  I think Katherine wants lots and lots of attention.  I feel she will go back to Abdullah.  And when she does, and she gets hurt, I hope Katherine remembers everyone who was just outraged at her behavior, and how she has now for sure has asked for abuse.  This attention seeker needs to wear an  electronic ankle bracelet so that her mom will know where she is at any given moment until Katherine gains her sanity.  I am just about certain that Dr. Phil wasted so much of his resources on a girl that does not want to be helped.  Time will tell.  I hope I am wrong Katherine, but you did keep giggling and smiling when you talked to Abdullah.  You completely LOVED ALL THE ATTENTION.  Dr. Phil, will you again attempt to rescue her?  I think you need to put your resources on someone who will actually change their life.

Disturbing

I am saddened to read all of the posts about this episode and was disturbed by the Dr. Phil show's ethnocentric treatment of this story. While certainly Abdullah (not to mention Katherine) are young and mercurial, it was patently obvioust hat Abdullah was villified for his background. Middle Eastern people are blunt, frank and do not have the same kind of vocabulary in their language as the social niceties English allows. While Abdullah admits to verbal abuse, I wonder if we're getting the whole picture from a young, easily manipulated young woman who wants desperately to feel loved and accepted -- why else would she have embarked on this nonsense with a stranger. The Dr. Phil show was remiss in not ensuring that a speaker of Arabic was around to help Abdullah communicate, and to, perhaps, have consulted and expert in Middle Eastern culture -- there are many.

Post 911, this show reeked of antisemitism (Arabs are semites, lest anyone get their knickers in a knot). Abdullah is a typical young man, irrespective of culture -- inarticulate, hot-headed and passionate. Katherine seems to me a typical American girl: spoiled and incapable of taking responsibility for her own undoing and hiding behind the anti-Arab sentiment of the audience and, indeed, America itself.

While Abdullah may, indeed be a louse, the producers of this episode should have been a little more sensitive to cultural differences in such a delicate political climate.

wrong punishment

Quote From: edmicequeen

I have been following this story closely as years ago I lost a good friend the same way .

Basically I think this article I will quote from the local paper here says it all .

Mideast   Saudis defend gang rape verdict

Saudi Arabia defended yesterday a courts decison to sentence a woman who was gang raped to 200 lashes of the whip after united states described the verdict as astounding .

The 19 year old Siite woman and an unrelated man companion was abducted and raped by seven men in 2006. Last week the womans sentence was raised to 200 lashes and six months in prison for being alone with an unrelated man.

Obviously the government in those countrys does not protect woman the way they are protected in countries such as the states and canada .

There beliefs are different and there laws are extremely different .

I do understand internet love but I think one has to weigh in cultural differences aswell.

Looking forward to Mondays show .

The Arab world is backwoods. I’m an Australian Lebanese Muslim. This judgment is ludicrous. However to I must defend how they think. I was raised a Muslim and every Muslim girl to raised pretty much not to trust men. I wasn’t allowed to have boys as friends, I did anyway. All Muslim Arab countries still practice arrange marriages. So they only way for a girl to be seen with a boy in public is if they are engage to be married. There is no such thing as courtship, if a boy like you, his get permission from your parent to marry you and then you get to know each other.   This is how its always been in Arab countries, and that how their brought up. In some Indian religion the bride does not see her husband until the day of the wedding. These are customs and tradition, they know no better so we shouldn’t judge. That said this is why the girl got punished, I don’t Condon the punishment its stupid. From what you said she was out with a male who wasn’t related to her. This is a big no no in Muslim culture, I think the rape is punishment to last a life time, then the stupid government goes add fuel to her already burning emotional state by publicly punishing her for something someone else did to her is absurd. They only got 10 month to a year for raping her, how hypocritical, there animals, there not even animals. In Australia a Lebanese youth was jailed to 66 years for gang rape.

This is why I tell people its not the boys who are bad its their parents for raising them to think they are superior to women. What message do those sentences send out to young Muslim youth, only that the girl gets what she deserves and the boy it’s never the boys fault. Its one thing to have tradition and customs it’s another to punish the wrong person. Thank god my mother had 6 girls and 3 boys, and they were taught to respect women. My brother has been married to his wife for nearly 4 years and has never raised a hand to his wife.

11/26 Katherine Returns

Quote From: crazy4critters

If your view of America is so terrible--- why are you living here?!!

Why is it that in a land of free speech the most common response to any criticism is " if you dont like it, then leave"?

Why not open up some discussions.   Yes, there are good things about America, but there are also alot of bad things.

Turning a blind eye in the name of brainless patriotism does not improve the state of any country.

11/26 Katherine Returns

Quote From: fordchick13

When Katherine was 16 and pulled this stunt the young man's father should of been banned from the United States. If I heard correct his father goes to America 6 months out of the year. Why hasn't he been punished?

As for Katherine she is infuriately a typical female. Many of us females seek love. Many of times in the wrong way and wrong places. Young and old.

Donna

Ont, Canada

Our government cannot hold a grown man's father responsible for the actions of his son. Furthermore, can you tell me why  the father of Abdullah should be punished for coming into the states? That would go against everything America stands for. I honestly am not aware of the laws and penal codes in Canada, but in America, you are not responsible for your childrens's actions once they become a legal adult.  Unless there is evidence of some sort of conspiracey between the father and son, there is no reason to punish him.

I understand the Dr Phil show wanted to make sure the girl in question was safe, but I am fearful that there might have been too much intervention and that innocent Americans may end up having to pay the price some day.

11/26 Katherine Returns

Quote From: terrylee_1949

Dr. Phil,

I think it is plain that Abdullah, his father and family were involved in beating a U.S. Citizen...  My question is why does our Government knowing this would ever allow Abdullah and/or his father back into this Country.  They should now be put on the list and never be allowed back into the United States again.
Wow, are you serious? She left on her own will.  The problems in their relationship could be between anyone, American or not.

doctor phill you did advice evry one to change his phone number
you shoul also advice abdullah to do so,simply bcz katherine is gonna do her best to try  to reach him
