Dr. Phil follows up with a family terrified for the safety of their loved one, Katherine, a young woman who flew to the Middle East to be with Abdullah, whom she met online. When she last spoke with Dr. Phil, Katherine promised that she would return to the United States within two days, but immediately after the show, she changed her mind. Find out what happened during two failed attempts to get Katherine home, and what finally got her on a plane. Then, Katherine’s mother, Shawn, and sister, Mary, say they were overwhelmingly relieved to have her back safe, so why didn’t they greet her at the airport? Katherine joins her family onstage and offers her tearful apologies. After hearing how her actions have affected her family and Dr. Phil’s staff, will Katherine go back to Abdullah, or will she have a change of heart? Join the discussion.

I hope everyone knows this girl will probably be back with him in not too long. Sorry but at her age she doesn't know how to evaluate her feelings and will be lured by him.

i know how concered Katherine's parents are. But not all people are like that. im married to a muslim man. his the greatest thing thats ever happened to me! were currently living in Australia! Not all muslims are bad! there is good and bad in every religion!

Hello to you,
I would not worry too much , your marriage is considered null& void!
Did he mail you any copies or documents? Especially at his age he almost certainly has an Egyptian
wife there, as most do! By just having the courage to tell your story , you may have helped many, who
are in the same situation , or contemplating, meeting a stranger overseas, or even here in the states!

He may not even have registerd this& something just doesn't fit together quite right what he is telling you!
Because if all that was true , by now he would have been in this country by now!
To put your mind at ease, and also because you have your personal documents floating around in his
possesion, I would suggest calling the "American Embassy in Cairo", Egyptian Embassy in Washington,DC, as a precaution, Also, your local Immigration Office, talk to the Investigation Unit, give his name , location, they can easily check any things he may have obtained illegally through you!

Many Egyptian men are still operating under whats called "Orfi Marriage Contract", used for multiple marriages, in a lot of cases not even registerd in Egypt!

Many women may not be aware, in the moslem religion, their are two sects, the "Sunnis" & Shiites",
the "Shiites" believe in temporary marriages, will write it up , just for the night to have relations with you, they may have an american wife, at home sitting in your same city, but they just want to have an excuse to commit "adulltery" with you for the night or week!

Sad part of this story is so many arab men will preach to the women, and proclaim how good they are as a "moslem man",and totally condradict this by their actions.
Truly if they follow the Holy Qur"an, they cannot wash & pray 5 x day, then drink alcohol, go out to bars, as they do, have premarital relations, smoke marijuiana, or hashisha,this is all prohibited!
They smoke the "Argehyla" (water pipe), here in the states, and in their own country put "hashish" in it!
All do respect to any religion, we are all praying to the same "God", but "Walk what you Talk"!
Complete Double Standard for Most!
Even Moslem Women who are taught to dress modestly and cover their hair by a "hijab"(veil), you see running around the states in shopping malls, stores, schools, etc, with the veil on , then wearing a very tight explicit shirt & tight jeans?? Then we are accused of being predjudiced, when we speak our minds!
My opinion everyone is allowed to have organizations to support them, you have good & bad in all races!
We have the NAACP, Arabs Rights Groups, etc. ask yourself now in this country >"Who technically is the
minority,? we are the land of freedom, but the "Middle Class White Americans have become the Minority"
Many people have tried to form groups ,to help them are accused of being,"KKK", which is not fair at all!
Shouldn't everyone have rights to have an organization no matter what your color is?
Freedom isn't that what it is all about?

Hello, My name is Elizabth, im Australian 3 years ago i met my husband on the internet in yahoo chat we only chatted a few months and i decidded to see him , so i travelled to his country in Plestine i met his family and we married after 2 weeks , i stayed in Palestine for 4 months untill my husband got his visa, i really liked Palestine they have respect for tourist and everyone, its not true how people say bad things about Palestine, yes there is war there but your safty there form God. when to Palestine no one from my family knew i was travelling there and my family didnt know i was there, my family didnt want to accept him , because his an arab, but now they respect him and love him, we have to beautiful children together and we live in Australia , we have our own business we love each other very much and are very happy his has his australia citizan, we go to Palestine almost every year to vist my husbands family and they saw our baby boys, Katherine if you really love Abdullah and he loves you nothing can stand in your way , dont let your family affect your decission, you both can have a beautiful life together , coz i did it u can too, i wish you both all the best and take care, liz

Teach the American people about the rest of the world!

The American is totally ignorant about the rest of the world. It is about time that the US changes their school curriculum and teaches everybody about the rest of the world and not just the 50 States.

Back to the Katherine saga:

It is pathetic indeed that "never getting a visa ever for the US" is punishment enough!

If the father arrives in US again, as he is supposed to do regularly, then he should be charged with aiding a minor (when she was 16) to leave for Palelstine and locked up. Let us see if a Palestinian 'Dr Mustafa' (sorry Dr Phil) would have a satellite link up to try to get that Palestinian family back together? Not on your life. They see things differently, and that is why I have suggested that US schools teach Americans about the rest of the world

Another thing is this, freedom is not the ultimate; vis a vis personal freedoms, when it goes against the majority. This simply means that ONE person claiming his/her rights to personal freedom can escape punishment for something that could place in danger the majority.

It's a sad fact, and I still don't understand why they disliked Jewish people, because none of the people I asked (majority Christians and Catholics) could give me a reasonable answer. I as a Muslim don't know the history, frankly I don't give a @@@@, but I did do some reading and research, well I started, it just dragged on, the Palestinian have a cause to be disgruntled, as do the Israelis, but I'm more sympathetic to the Palestinian cause than I am the Israelis, and no its not because I'm Muslim. In America you get the western version of whats happening, I have the privilege to view both sides, having been to the middle east a few year back, my first reaction to the news there was, how come we don't see this version of events in the western media.

I know my ranting has nothing to do with this topic, but its my belief that American are very uneducated about world issues, and should make comments that are misleading and inaccurate.

So you as a Muslim, do you know the reason why the Muslims hate Israel so much. Why can't they be friends. It's 2007, why waste time on hate, fighting and ruining everything.

I want them to build something together not braking everything. Imagine they build a city together in middle of the desert as a symbol of new start, new beginning of future and live there in peace.

Al the Jewish families and the Muslim families who like the idea will be invited to live there and all the haters and extremists out behind the gates of this city.

Are you in or out ?... Every person have to make a personal choice. Let bygones be bygones!

The children need new future for them would be worthy,

not for the old grudge nourishing people.

I agree that her parents need to hold some sort of responsibility in this whole mess, but she is 18 now. Hello, she is an adult. She can do as she chooses now. All her parents can do at this point is be supportive or Katherine can "write" them off. (Either you accept me for who I am or I'm gone routine.) There's nothing her parents can do about it now.

Why was her computer time not being monitored way back before this mess even got started?? I have a computer that accesses the internet, but I also have parental controls set up on it. Plus, it's in a room that isn't private. When the children are on the computer, I am, in a sense, monitoring everything they do. There is NO myspace, no chat rooms, no chatting at all with anybody even if you don't have to type it in!!! It is up to the parents to protect their children!!! Not the other way around.

My oldest is almost 13. She has been begging for a myspace for almost a year. "All of her friends have one!" The answer is always no. Parental controls will not even allow her to access myspace. I'm not stupid enough to believe that she isn't on there when she is over at a friend's house, but I do believe that she has the fear not to create her own account. I understand the frustration of stating the reasons why she can't have one over and over, but that's the way it is. She always comes back with the same reply, "I can make it private and I will only accept people as my friends that I know." Yes, we all know how that works. (Not going to happen.) All of her 12 and 13 year old friends have their profiles set to say that they are 17. That way, they don't have to have their profiles private!!! (Obviously their parents aren't watching what's taking place!) Look up the story of the girl that just committed suicide near St. Louis, MO all over a comment left on her myspace!!!!!

The cell phone, c'mon lady!!! These kids with cell phones that have free run with them drives me nuts! It's just like a computer! Watch what is going on with it! Yes, we have one for the kids, but it is a Firefly!!! WE program what numbers can be called and only allow it to accept calls from those numbers! If you don't want to go that route, go to disney mobile. You can do the same things with their phones and you can also track them on your computer because the phone has a GPS. Some people don't want to pay the money... What is your child's safety worth??? Our kids do not appreciate it, but they know that's how it is. And yes, we hear all the time about all my friends have their own cell phones, they text, they take pictures.......... on and on and on. Guess what? We care more about their safety versus them looking cool.

Let this be a warning to all parents, you have to stay on top of your kids. Yes, you can trust them to a certain degree, but not with full reign. They are not mentally mature enough to make adult decisions, so don't let them. Do I think that my kids are going to turn out wonderful? No, but I am doing everything in my power to protect them from something like this! We talk and we talk a lot. They know the reasons behind everything that we do and they know the punishment they will face if they break the rules. That's how we run things in this house.

As far as Katherine, I truly hope that Dr. Phil can help. What's happened has happened and she can only move on from here. I hope that she makes the right choice because she has not matured mentally and we all know that it's easier to brainwash a child. Good luck and I hope that she doesn't have any resentment against her parents for "allowing" this relationship to continue and "allowing" her to get into this mess. No, they didn't "allow" it, but they didn't do anything to stop it either.

i suspect that katherine's parents had been having trouble with her for a while before she even met abdullah online. i could be wrong, but i imagine she's a much more rebellious type than the kids in any of the famiy's who are questioning how the parents could have let this happen. i'm not tryibng to excuse them or villify her -- i'm just describing the situation as i think it may have been.

and, i hate to say it, but i don't think there's any guarantee that katherine won't run back to abdullah again, despite what she's been through. stranger things have happened. and love can make you forget the bad things. i know she likes a new guy, but if that doesn't work out, she may head right back to abdullah. i hope not, but she might. i totally respect and admire dr. phil for making every effort to get her out of that situation. but i hope her parents realize that, after all that, she could take off again, whether with abdullah or some other questionable guy. there may be a point where they just have to accept that these are her choices, especially if she's 18 now. they certainly can no longer allow her life to take their attention away from their other two children.

Why is there still such a debate on Muslims? First of all, most of the people writing about Muslims are not even spelling it properly. It goes to show their ignorance and the fact that they are just shooting off their mouths to be heard.

Muslim have NOTHING TO DO WITH HAMAS. Muslim is a RELIGION AND A BELIEF WHICH FOLLOWS GOD AND RESPECTABLE TRADITIONS. Palestinian President Abas (not sure of spelling) and DOES NOT RULE TH GAZA STRIP. HAMAS IS A ISLAMIC MILITANT GROUP that took over Gaza in June. The MUSLIM PEOPLE ARE LAW ABIDING CITIZENS AND HAVE TRADITIONAL VALUES - WHY IS EVERYONE BASHING MUSLIM? AND. more importantly, WHY ARE THE COUNTRIES OF IRAN, PAKISTAN, IRAQ and the ARAB NATIONS BEING CHASTISED HERE BY THE POSTERS ON THIS MESSAGE BOARD. The story is supposed to be about Katherine coming home, yet it has become a Muslim bashing session. WHAT IS UP WITH THAT?

Learn your history and about the cultures of the Mideast before you stick your perverbial "FOOT IN YOUR MOUTHS" any further. You are just showing your ignorance. People like you are the ones that need an "attitude adjustment" and need to be educated. How would you feel if someone spoke about you (being American) as if it was YOUR FAULT that we were in Iraq? Did you send us to war? Well, that is exactly what these posting are doing to the Muslims by speaking of them as “sterotypical” of what is going on in Iraq. THAT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH IT AT ALL. The Muslims are a peaceful, loving, religious people and deserve just as much respect as anyone else. Just because their beliefs are different than ours as Americans DOES NOT MEAN THEY ARE BAD PEOPLE.

I am an American. This young lady is spoiled and loved the idea of being idependent from her parents. she chose to go to the Gaza strip to live with this young man. just as she is a young women, he is a young man. If this had been an american boy, would there had been as much interest. this young man loved this girl, in their country committment and loyalty means something different than what most spoiled, young white american teens have an understanding of. We in america are so quick to condemn the life styles and beliefs of other countries and humans. This was a game to her, in my opinion. I think she thought there would be a lot of money attatched to this situation. maybe, just maybe this young man really did love her. remember, we have different values and ideas in america. In his culture if a promise to marry was given, then thats just what it is. why is that so bad, if he controls his wife, that happens in a lot of cultures. instead of saying this young person is misguided, he, the young man took all the heat and was treated like a terrorist. Dr. Phil floored me when he said "find a nice American boy", did i sence some prejudice??? well never the less, this manipulative young lady is not finished, i could tell from the look on her face that she was just exploring and curious. Mom, let her learn from her mistakes, otherwise you are going to be shedding lots of tears and stress over your self centered spoiled daughter. peoples hearts hurt no matter what country their from:-)

and when he called her trash names like slut and bitch....those were terms of endearment?

What a beautiful country THAT IS!?!?!

I am so glad I live in America and don't have to get that kind of "love" from men in any of the countries with those kind of values and customs.
