Dr. Phil follows up with a family terrified for the safety of their loved one, Katherine, a young woman who flew to the Middle East to be with Abdullah, whom she met online. When she last spoke with Dr. Phil, Katherine promised that she would return to the United States within two days, but immediately after the show, she changed her mind. Find out what happened during two failed attempts to get Katherine home, and what finally got her on a plane. Then, Katherine’s mother, Shawn, and sister, Mary, say they were overwhelmingly relieved to have her back safe, so why didn’t they greet her at the airport? Katherine joins her family onstage and offers her tearful apologies. After hearing how her actions have affected her family and Dr. Phil’s staff, will Katherine go back to Abdullah, or will she have a change of heart? Join the discussion.

Find out what happened on the show.

Katherine

Good Lord!  I was blown away by this family's story.  I cannot imagine going through that.

That is one LUCKY, STUPID girl.  I hope she learned something from this!!!

Teenagers are like sheep, and they will hurt family in a heartbeat to satisfy a friend...it's such a bizarre time in one's life.  I'm just glad they got her home.  Way to go, Dr. Phil!!

Good For Katherine!

Way to go Katherine!  Physical abuse of any kind...verbal abuse of any kind...never has a place in a loving relationship.   What you have done here is a good example for young girls all over that are in an abusive situation.  Good for you for taking care of yourself.  Ignore the bad posts!  Look forward to the rest of your life. I look forward to hearing updates on this...hint hint Dr. Phil!

Not true

Quote From: lifeslikethat

In  Australian non- Australian citizens aren't allowed  to own a home outright above a certain price ($150,000 I believe it is), doesn't the US have similar laws if they do his credibility goes out the window instantly.
Absolutely not true.  I am a permanent resident of Australia (not yet a citizen) and I am allowed to own a home under the same rules as any other person in this country.  And where can you find a home that costs less than $150,000 anyway?  Craziness.

Regarding Katerine

I'm American who is currently living overseas in the Middle East. Now the story regarding Katerine just air here in the Middle East , yes I know that we are far behind. Just thought I would say something about this subject. I moved to the Middle East when I was 16, with my family . Now I was wondering if Katerine knew that Palestine is not recongized as a state so there is no Palestine Passport .In Islam a man can have 4 wives ?  As an American who lives in the Middle East, I met so many people who were orginally from a Arab country who had an American passport so I asked how did you get it ? Well some people from places as in Palestine, Sryia, Jordan , and Lebanon will date American girls just to get a chance at  getting a visa or a passport and most of the time they will leave after that girl after they got what they wanted. Most couples who are not Americans who that are expecting a child will go to the states just to give birth. Now I asked why go all the way to the states to give birth then I finally found out why just for  the American passport ! As an American this is what makes me so angry that America is one of the most easiest country to gain citzenship. Now after they gain citzenship they will go back home cause they will get better status , better salaries, and so forth . Now do you think these people pay taxes I don't think so ! Most people I met never been to the states nor speak English ! Then after so many years they can pass the citzenship to family members ! Now it's not just the Arab world that does this it's worldwide ! I thought I would write about this ! Now please note that all people from the Arab world are not like this ! The people who I met who are arab were very nice and respectful ! I have nothing against them , just thought that alot people'are not aware of this . Anyways I hope this was helpful.

Thanks

Arabs

we all agree that what she did is stupid and wrong but I have to respect her choices because at that very moment when she decided to follow her heart she did; I mean c’mon who hasn’t fall in love and done something stupid?

What I strongly disagree and I’ve seen in these replies is you're changing the facts from being a girl followed a guy into an American followed an Arab! Abdullah is a jack*** I agree; he treated her badly and he abused her physically and verbally but it’s not an (ARAB) thing it’s a (GUY) thing!

I've been in 2 abusive relationships one of them is an Arabian guy and the other isn’t but I don’t blame him or the American guy! I blame me for making bad choices even after I saw the signs and I ignored them on purpose for the sake of (LOVE)

But AGAIN anything has to do with Arab / Muslims and Middle Easters should always be terrorist and horrible, hasn’t it??!!!

From a western/middle eastern perspective

I come from a mixed background; my dad's Egyptian and mother English. All I want to say is that whether the person you "love" is middle eastern or french or russian, you really have to get as much info as you can about the culture and people before taking such a gutsy step into a place you have no idea about even the laws and regulations or customs and traditions.
My father was not at all a controlling middle eastern husband or father and there was no threat whatsoever, but my mother was careful and didn't just fall for a man that said "he loved her." I hate that there is such negativity towards arabs, but i can understand why and to be honest with you it is just a completely different culture. My point being not everyone is a monster this side of the world. Katherine was very immature and has a lot to learn about love and life in general, because if she's not careful she could end up with an italian abuser, just because he says he loves her. And middle eastern men are very charming when they are after something.

11/26 Katherine Returns

well, no one can denay that the guy was behaving in a bad way, but what i wanna say is that he is bad because he is bad, not because he is an arab he should be a bad guy, each episode has a new story and everytime one persone should be mistaken, ao why do u say that the american who did sth wrong did that because he has no values, while if the same happened  by an arab u start calling names and sticking thins 2 arabs, u should be open minded america!!!!!!!! why dont u accept other culture??????? u make jokes about arabs, jewish ppl, asian, latin americans , black ppl ................................... all those r wrong u r the only right ppl in the whole world>?????????????? come on!

i really would like to thank you for steping up & commenting on this issue & i see that you have known enough about arab culture & life.

i am also watching the show on regular basis & Dr. Phil is just amazing.

If i can add or correct some of the facts you have come to, starting with palestine, being a palestinian working in dubai, its been 12 years since we see palestinian passports being issued under Oslo agreement with israel, but its correct, as a state it is still in our dreams.

i do blame abdulla for all this (not knowing what his intention is) as he is inviting & encouraging kat to enter the palestinian territories at this time with the political situation unsettled so far. not forgetting that abdulla & his family, as well as 2 million palestinian living out there, are in danger through out their daily life.

i wish he (abdulla) would have handled this situation the right way (as Dr. Phil said) since he is wealthy he can get a visa & meet her family & break the bread on their kitchen table.

Its not the danger that kat family talking about coz we know that no one dares to harm her, but on contrary, i am sure kat is getting a warm welcome with abdulla's family. Well, the danger is that kat is visiting an occupied territories and no one can predict what next moment will bring to everybody living their.

The other point i wish to talk about is the fact being a muslim can get married to 4:

Well, i believe even if its allowd by the religion, its not something we see everyday, its not easy to maintain a good relation and a good marriage even with one, who the hell can get into a second one simultaneously? in fact our social life is not much different that any other people living on planet earth.

i can say that our life is being driven by other factors not by religion mostly.

glad reading some comments on this from middle east, please write & let me know if i've been misunderstood.

Regards,,
