(Original Air Date: 11/27/07) Dr. Phil follows up with a family torn apart when the mother was banned from her only son’s wedding. The bride-to-be, Michelle, said she’d rather burn in hell than let her future mother-in-law, Jane, attend the ceremony, and her fiancé, Jay, stood behind her decision. This sent the entire family into a tailspin, with the best man resigning, the aunt disowning the groom and the wedding planner on alert to call 911 if Jane showed up. The big day has come and gone, and everyone returns to update Dr. Phil with the latest. Were they able to bury the hatchet before the wedding? Jane has gone through a rollercoaster of emotions, and Dr. Phil finds out what has her so mad at him, she even wrote him a scathing letter one week after her appearance. Has Jane done a 180-degree turn since? Has Michelle stopped her “campaign of hate mail” as Jane called it and opened up her arms to her husband’s mother? Share your thoughts, join the discussion.

Find out what happened on the show.

Banned from the Wedding, Part 2

Dr. Phil,

I have always respected your opinion, but this is one show I totally disagree with you.  The daughter is a completely disrespectful, selfish spoiled brat.  Not to say that the mother is totally right, but she does not deserve the treatment she is being dealt.

My relationship with my mother-in-law in the beginning was not the best, but because of my love for my husband and knowing that our marraige would be so much happier, I have learned to not take little things so serious.  Also, I don't think I would have respected my husband had he allowed me to treat his mother in that manner.  I have been married for 38 years.

Jay is going to be very unhappy.  It's inevitable.

I'm writing this before the show is over.

Thanks Dr. Phil.

This is ridiculous!

First of all, I think that it is very obvious that Michelle is SO VERY insecure and that she feels the need to control and manipulate her husband to the point of not having a relationship with his mother.  Michelle needs to be in therapy for jealousy, insecurity, and self-image issues.

Second, Jay, GROW A PAIR OF CAHOONAS!  I think it is sad to see a grown man so ruled by his gf/wife that he can no longer think for himself or stand up for himself, his morals, or his family.  I think you know (as well as your wife does) that your excuses of why you are "waiting and thinking" about having a relationship with her.... of course, with baby steps, is ridiculous.  Grow up.  These reasons came straight from your wife's mouth and you are just repeating them.  Why would you want to be married to someone who dictates your every move and doesnt allow you to even be friendly to your mother?  I think she's brainwashed you.

I dont think that Jane has been perfect by any means in this situation, but at least she is mature enough to get the help she needs, apologize, and try to move forward.  If my son didnt invite me to his wedding, it would probably take me a lot longer to be emotional ready to try to have a relationship with him and his (controlling, crazy jealous) wife.  Keep up the good work Jane, and when they pin you and gang up on you with petty issues, be careful of your response- sometimes it is just better to keep your mouth shut because they will end up looking like the idiots.

And to Michelle's mom- get real!  You are another victim of your daughter's manipulation.  Poor poor Michelle.

It's a shame what has happened to this family.

OH My Dr Phil

Dr. Phil, I guess i we don't see eye to eye after all. I always thought you had great advice for all. After watching your show on tuesday i could not believe that  you did not tell the husband (wussie) to get a spine is he really that whipped from (goldielocks). She is a evil woman...you can see it in her eyes... The husbands face was not shown and i think the real reason is that he does not want everyone to see who he really is (a spine less weasel)... I hope that my son nevers meets a woman like her.

I'm appalled

I've never contributed to a message board like this one before, but after watching today's show, I had to register and comment. While it's obvious all of the parties involved have had probems in the past, I think Michelle is acting like a spoiled brat. I don't know any of these people and it's impossbile to judge what's gone on or the chance of any changes lasting, but it's not hard to see that Jay and his wife are mean-spirited children who are demanding respect as adults without behaving in any kind of adult manner.

I don't understand

We can't be hearing the whole story. I just can't believe this is so one sided. I think the bride is a spoiled little princess who expects to be the center of the universe every day. Maybe someday she'll have a son who will also be such a pansy. I hope the mother in law can just walk away from them for awhile and let them grow up.

I Don't Understand

I have a hard time understanding why the young couple can not just forgive and forget. There are a lot more serious wrongs going on in the world than silly personality problems. I feel that everyone should try seeing things from the others perspective. Especially the daughter-in-law. She should think about her own children growing up and isolating her from their lives because they perceive her behavior to be unwanted or unsatisfactory. Instead of concentrating on what has been done, let the past alone and start the book fresh with all new paper.

bride--ZILLA& SISSY boy

R U KIDDIN ME....

THIS NEW LITTLE BRIDE MAKES ME SICK , AND HER LITTLE HUBBY TOO. I WOULD LOVE A TELL THE GUEST OFF SHOW... FOR BOTH. IF I WAS THE MOTHER I WOULD WRITE THEM BOTH OFF. I THINK HIS LITTLE BRIDE IS EVIL AND THAT'S THAT. HE LISTENS TO EVERYTHING SHE SAYS .. HE SITS THERE LIKE A LITTLE PUPPET.

I CANNOT BELIEVE HE SUPPORTS THIS BEHAVIOR COMING FROM HIS LITTLE BRIDE --ZILLA. IT MAKES ME SICK. I HAVE BEEN MARRIED FOR ALMOST 19 YEARS. THERE HAVE BEEN PLENTY OF BUMPS, BUT IF I HAD KEPT THIS UP WITH MY MOTHER -N- LAW THERE IS NO WAY WE WOULD HAVE MADE.

BRIDEZILLA NEEDS TO LEARN THAT LIFE IS SHORT, AND SHE NEEDS TO GET ON WITH IT. TO SAY SHE HATES HER IS SUCH A STRONG WORD.

I WOULD TELL THEM BOTH TO GO SOUTH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Seems like there have been issues with his Mom...

Before he met his wife, he needs to man up and work out issues he has with his mother. Also his mother needs to work out issues with her son. His wife is not involved in this he needs to step up and resolve whatever issues with his mother.

His wife is just and excuse not to deal with the issue and for his wife to take the flack. If he made the effort and they both go for counseling then they can work through what type of relationship they want. Maybe he just wants her so close and no more. He is her only son so she was probably suffocating him. They both need to go to therapy and have this settled.

Wow!

Have those bratty "kids" ever heard of .......what foes around comes around?   I wonder how the spoiled brat Michelle will feel when her son forbids her to come to his wedding.  any children these two have will be raised to be shelfish and self centered.  Shame on all of them for acting this way!  IMHO

11/27 Banned from the Wedding, Part 2

i just cant believe her son..... how can any man treat his mother that way? how is he going to feel when he has kids and they grow up and not want him in their lifes? Do they sit back and think about that is coming to them , after all the  rotten choices they have made... I think it was a bad choice to marry a GIRL that acts like her......
