It’s no surprise that teens engage in reckless activities, but kids today are doing much more than sneaking a drink of alcohol. The newest trends can be deadly for your kids -- from street racing to car surfing. Dominic, 18, is obsessed with illegal street racing, and his friend, Justin, boasts that he’s driven 147 mph on the highway! Dominic’s mother, Susan, fears for his safety, but doesn’t know how to control him. Can Dr. Phil get the boys to put on the brakes? Then, 17-year-old Trais was street racing when he accidentally killed a wheelchair-bound mother of two in front of her children. Don’t miss his strong message for Dominic and Justin. And, meet a mom who worries that her 13-year-old daughter spends more time in a virtual online world than in the real one. Can Dr. Phil help the girl return to reality? Share your thoughts, join the discussion.

Find out what happened on the show.

Kudos to Trais

I was so moved by the show today. I think it is time for Trais to forgive himself. I have a feeling he may have saved a life today, by sharing his story. The look in the racing boys eyes.....I think they may have just got it. You either get it or you don't. I hope and pray they got it.

We all do stupid stuff in our lives, but for the grace of God, our stupid stuff does not leave us with a life time of pain. Trais is redeeming himself by helping others. This should not be a life sentence for him. I was incredibly proud of him for coming on the show and taking responsibility for his actions and trying to make amends. His parents should be very proud.

Tracking Teens

There is a way to track and watch your teenager in the car via the internet and in real time. You can even get an alert when the car exceeds a certain speed set by you. Go to www.globaltrackingdevices.com and check it out. This newest technology can prevent teenagers from possibly making the worst mistake of their life. Put the power and control of teenage driving back in the parents hands with just the click of a mouse.

street racing/NASCAR

Street racing has been going on since the 40's.  What ticks me off is almost EVERYONE thinks the streets, roads and freeways are NASCAR tracks.  No matter what town or city you live in everyone drives

10-40 mph over the speed limit sign.  I went 60 on the freeway in a 70 mph zone because of weather conditions.  It was not busy on that stretch of 35W between Duluth and Hinckley, MN. People were passing at 80-100mph.  Well, 3 minlater, 5 cars were off the road because a deer was on the road and they hit it. and had a multiple car accident.  There are only 5 highway patrol cars for 35W in Minnesota so people play the odds.  I believe they should all take the driving test over evry 8 yrs.

And if you are in Reno, Nevada, you better stop for the pedestrians. The police have regular checks and the fine is big.

Virtual Crap

That girl addicted to her fake life really pissed me off because I have a friend who's the same way. All he ever does is play World Of Warcraft and he even likes some of his 'friends' on there more than he likes me... which is disgusting. I've been the best friend he could ever hope for and all those years of friendship have been replaced by people he doesn't even know.

There's nothing wrong with video/computer games and things along those lines, but when is enough finally enough? I can't even talk to him anymore because that's all he wants to talk about (and I mean that literally). I'm so sick of it.

Sure, I use the internet too (obviously), but my life doesn't revolve around it, you know? I've been supportive for a really long time because it makes him happy, but I can't anymore.

I hope he has a nice fake life and dies alone.

Street Racing

I am posting a message regarding your segment on street racing.  I don't give a crap about the show and don't typically watch, and I'm glad I don't.  My girlfriend does and that is the only reason I saw the episode.  I was so troubled by the beating these teenagers were taking by you and your audience that I took the time to set up the account to post a message.  My girlfriend wouldn't allow me to use her username.  First of all, the racers are not sorry about driving fast, don't fool yourself.  They are in a hostile enviornment and want you and your audience to release the death grip.  All they can do is apoligize.  In addition, the accidents that occur due to street racing cannot compare to the number of accidents due to people who are driving impared or 'drivers' who simply CANNOT DRIVE.  What are the odds?  One in a Thousand?  One in Ten Thousand?

You also talk of sanctioned events at drag strips.  Please.  They have so many rules and regulations and mandatory modifications and fees that it drains most of the fun out of the race.  You never aknowledge the fact that men have been drivng fast for ever, even when you were younger.  I guess that years ago it wasn't so taboo. My father would atest to that.  Driving fast can be dangerous, no doubt, but you have called out everyone that has ever dropped the hammer on the car next to them to edge away.  There is always that little sense of pride.  I wouldn't condone someone busting down through a school zone at 90 mph but open highway, I don't see a problem.  I run 100+ mph down the interstate everyday and have no regrets.  Drivers encounter more hazardous situations everyday on the road than me.  If you are going to drive fast you have to pay even more attention to your surroundings than a normal driver would even begin to think about.  There are many activities that are rendered safe, accecptable and lawful that are much more dangerous than street racing, when practiced by those uncapable of handling the circumstances.

Speeding does kill - I know

On February 24th of this year, two sheriffs knocked on our door in the wee hours of the morning to tell us our oldest son had been killed by a drunk driver. Our whole family met at the hospital to view him one more time, and it was so unreal!  It has now been nine months since Robert died, and it took months to find out what actually happened. We know that the 19 year-old boy who hit him had never had a license and was under the influence of alcohol and pot.  Robert was riding his motorcycle home from work, and at first we heard he was probably doing 55-60 mph.  A few months later we found out he was going 96 mph, but that wasn't the end of it. We finally got the full report and Robert was riding at 133 mph!!  Our son was a Marine who had served in Iraq, he was a fireman for 16 years, an EMT as well as a phlebotomist at the ER in our local hospital. He spent much of his life giving to others and we didn't know that he was a speeder!  I never was angry at the other young man, and was glad I didn't waste time hating him, because the accident was both their faults.  Robert was 30 years old and after he returned home from the war, I didn't think I had to worry about him. I was worried about our youngest because he loves to speed. He is 22 and lives on his own so there is nothing we can do except continue talking with him.  But I worry that since my youngest lost his most favorite person in the world, he may be more wreckless than ever.  I talk as often as I can about drunk driving AND speeding to all who will listen.
On the show tody, the two cocky young men seemed to sobber up after listening to all the others involved in that horrific wreck, and I hope it lasts.  More young people need to see this show.  I hope Dr, Phil keeps this subject going because it will save lives!

I am sorry to read the post of this person about street racing.  Not only are you speaking out your butt, but you go back to when they younger.  First off I am a mother of 2.  And I have been driving for over 20 years.  When I started driving there weren't as many cars on the roads as there are now.  And living threw a family accident, which killed my cousin.  He was a passenger in a car and lived for several years after the accident.  What you don't seem to get is how many people get destroyed when people die in accidents that could have been avoided.  And you think speeding doesn't hurt anyone how dare you.  The accident my cousin was in killed all together 5 affected so many families, 3 died at the scene the other 2 after the fact.  They all had promising future.

I was reading that you are more careful going faster well how is this.  You are going 100 mph on the highway and think it is wide open when all of a sudden traffic is stopped, but because you are going so fast, that you cause a bigger accident then one that may have caused the slow down or stop in the first place.  I don't know any highway that is wide open with no travelers on it at all so when you say wide open you are not thinking, and therefore you should not be behind a wheel of any vehicle.

I like how you end the conversation by putting that there are other activities, which are more dangerous then street racing.  But you don't give examples of what these activities are.  I would love to know what other activities you think are more dangerous.

PLEASE enough!!!!!

I want to say that this show was one great wake up to all the laid back parents that are so oblivious to what the hell their kids are doing.  I was so angry when I read some of these dumb kids that think that street racing is safe......come on how stupid are you!!!!!  First of all a car is a deadly machine especially when you beef it up with NOS and crap like that..... What do you think that is gonna happen if a dam car hits you and it starts a fire don't tell me that you can get out in time........I have seen lots of people who think that street racing is like the movies ITS NOT!!!!!  ALL STUNTS ARE DONE BY PROFESSIONALS NOT DUMB KIDS THAT ARE LOOKING FOR A THRILL.  Second all the REAL professionals will tell you that they do this LEGALLY in a control environment meaning that if an emergency happens there is someone there!!!!!  I really I am so sick and tired of these parents that have such a laid back lets be friends bull that when real life situations happen they don't know what to do.  I am 25 and I have done a lot of stupid things that I have learned from.  I can not stress how important it was for my parents that were there for me I think they prevented me from doing things that would really have screwed up my life.  I am no one to judge but when I see these people that are to trusting to their kids it infuriates me because I know that I or someone else will be paying for these stupid kids mistakes and trust me someone will end up dead or killing themselves because we have become such a YES, YES, YES generation that we will end up killing our youth.  One thing I have to say is you say NO out of LOVE and Yes out of fear and neglect.

Rice Cakez

Okay first of all, i do not condone street racing at all. However, i have been involved in my share of illegal activities on the streets. Needless to say i have since moved past that and realized the dangers. Nothing but tracks for me these days.

Anyways, to start off with, these 2 kids repping *street racing* have no idea what they are even doing sitting on that stage. Any person, in their right mind, who *street races* would NOT go on national TV to set themselves up in such a way that they can never take part in their passion ever again. It just wont happen.

The fact is, these are 2 kids, with a little extra cash, who think their 14 second cars are fast. They have no idea what 147mph even feels like. I dont care if baby huey does think his car can do 147mph. I want to see the speedometer in his car that says he did 147mph. If its a stock speedometer you can forget it. After less than 100mph those things are NOT acurate.

Also, even racing on a inclosed course is dangerous if your car is not set up for race. If you are not using race quality parts then you DO NOT need to even be playing around on a inclosed course. THAT is the reason we have so many street race related deaths. Part of racing is upkeep on your parts and making sure that not a thing can go wrong. Wich, DR. PHIL, even JEFF's team with NASCAR MAKES MISTAKES AND CAN COSTS PEOPLE THEIR LIFES WETHER GORDON IS ON A TRACK OR A STREET.'

Once again, let me clarify that i am NOT condoning street racing. I simply want to get some facts out there for the people who have never been involved with such a thing.

One last thing i would like to add is, i saw one of the previous posts talking about *Kids use car shows and track events as an excuse to cover up street racing*. That my friend is the most ignorant thing i have read all day long. Thats all im going to say about that.
