Every nine seconds a woman is battered in the United States. More shocking is that 50 percent of all women murdered in the U.S. are killed by a spouse or an acquaintance. Dr. Phil goes inside a story that has captured national attention for over a month. In this ripped-from-the-headlines show he delves into the events surrounding the disappearance of 23-year old Stacy Peterson, mother of two, and wife of Drew Peterson. Attorney Lisa Bloom, and Drew’s former fiancée, Kyle Piry, weigh in on this mysterious case. Is Drew involved in his fourth wife's disappearance, or did his wife really leave him for another man, as he claims? Then, meet another couple in crisis. Amanda says she lives in fear of her husband, Chris. She says he abuses her and she worries one day he will go too far, but she stays in the marriage anyway. Amanda's mother, Debby, thinks her daughter is living in denial and fears she will end up like Laci Peterson. Chris admits to being abusive but wants to try and salvage the relationship. You won't believe Chris' mother, Cheryl’s, explanation for his behavior!  And, Kim Gandy, the president of the National Organization for Women joins Dr. Phil with some startling domestic violence statistics and teaches victims how to develop an escape plan. If you live in fear of your spouse, this show just might save your life. Join the discussion.

A Killer Amongs Us

The way that i feel about the situation is that he is gulity he has to be how can someone be so unemotional about there wife and the mother of there children disappearing. It is just not right there is something going on and no one in his group or circle of ex co workers talking about it i believe they might have had something to do with it wether it be helping him or doing it for him it wouldn't matter they would help him because he is one of them. Dr. Phil asked him what do you think happen to your wife his response was i don't know. Well if that is the circumstance then why in the orginal "version" he says she ran off with another man that just does not make any sense to me anyway! As far as the jokes about playgirl that is just uncalled for. The attention from all the media might by getting him off in a sick way maybe he likes the camera and the attention.

12/07 A Killer Among Us

As  sit here reading through the volumes of e-mails on this message board, I am reminded of the response you gave to Abdullah, the young Arabic fellow who was involved with the young American girl. I remember the harsh way you spoke to this abuser. You certainly afforded Chris greater respect for the abuse he inflicts upon Amanda. Why the double standard?

Anita

Quote From: yvonne0868

Anita, please leave, you and your son deserve so much better.   Go to the shelter, get help.   I know what you mean about not wanting to bother anyone especially your parents, but honey, you need help, i didn't tell my family because i was scared that if he knew they knew he would kill them.    My father underwent cancer treatment and when they could get over to Australia they came when i needed them.   My father has had secondary cancer last year after 4 years being cleared but i reached out.       I think if something happened to you, they would be more upset with that, please please, please, get help and get out.

You have support here and i bet a hundred friends who know where you are coming from, you are not alone.

Please Anita, get out.         He is not worth it and you deserve so much better, both of you for your safety and your sons safety.  He will be scarred with this, my children have suffered because i didn't leave sooner but everything will turn out better in the long run, even though it looks bleak and horrible.

Lots of love

Call 1-800-799-7233  National Domestic Violence HOtline and get referral's for Shelter's in your area or out of the area. If you do not have transporation then they can ususally arrange for transportation to the shelter meeting plan. I would suggestion not within 100 miles of your home due to his police friend my know where the shelter is then you will not be safe. Do not cross state lines if the child is his because he can file parental kidnapping charges on you. Go to shelterlet them help you get a protective order, file for permanet custody of your kid and start over. If you call some where for help always hang up pick your phone back up dial 1234 let it ring and then hang up that way he can not track your calls. Also be careful with your home computer they can track what you do clear you folders but be careful, also cell phones have track devices in them if he gave it to you do not take it with you , but delete all friends and other numbers out of it. He could have it bugged. Good Luck. Call NDVH for assistance.

My advice to the wife is get out now while you can. I was shocked already but now I hear about animal abuse and see his smug face and I just want to punch him. The world would be a better place without him. Blames others for his actions & the wife owes it to her daughter to protect her and her animals. Like Dr. Phil says " you can't change what you don't acknowledge. " The husband looks evil too!! Ugh.

Chris, YOU NEVER EVER LAY A HAND ON A WOMAN

Chris, YOU NEVER EVER LAY A HAND ON A WOMAN, EVER especially a woman such as your wife whom you supposedly love.

Women deserve kindness, respect and nothing less.

Ya know Chris.....I'm a man that whenever I see or HEAR about a woman being physically abused...I see RED. I can't even stand to see a woman getting beat on a TV show or movie and I know it's fake there. That's how passionate I feel about physical abuse towards women.

Don't get me wrong, I don't particularly care for ANY abuse towards women but physical abuse is the MAJOR type towards women that definately makes me see RED!!!!

Bipolar People are NOT Murderers!

I am incensed to have posters suggest that because Drew Peterson has bipolar and is a murderer then therefore- bipolar persons are all potential murderers.  Mental health and views of the mentally ill has come a long way.

While it is possible that a mentally ill person will commit a violent act it does not follow that ALL the mentally ill are violent.  We know this!! All of us have a family member with a psychiatric diagnosis- Bipolar, Schizophrenia, Anxiety Disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Depression, etc...  Do we not love them?  Would we allow someone to badmouth them?

My schizophrenic brother worked hard on his sanity all his life.  He found the right medication for him, graduated Summa Cum Laud from Syracuse University, got married, owns a home and is a caring and compassionate social worker.  I am so proud of him for the mountains that he has had the courage to climb.

I was surprised no has commented on his comments and apparent smug disregard for his animal abuse. Anyone who has disrespect for animals couldn't have much respect for anyone else. Hope they keep him away from the pets as well as people until he gets so
