Girls dancing on bars half-naked, passed out on the beach, hugging the porcelain … these are photos posted for all to see on the Web site Facebook, in a group called Thirty Reasons a Girl Should Call it a Night. These shocking and provocative pictures are supposedly submitted by the women in the photos themselves. The women say they love to have fun, and this is a way to bond with other girls just like them. But are there unforeseen consequences to letting the public behold you at your worst? Dr. Phil speaks with women on both sides of this debate. Jasmine is the moderator for the group Thirty Reasons and says, although she’s responsible for taking down questionable photos, she hasn’t found one yet! Amanda and Norma are incensed that women would degrade themselves in this way. Hear from the president of a company who uses Web sites like Facebook and MySpace to weed out potential employees. Could documenting your good time on the Internet become your biggest regret? Then, a teen who loves to drink says criticism of Thirty Reasons just reinforces the double standard of gender inequality. What do Dr. Phil and the teen’s mother think? Plus, a mayor’s sexy photo has her town’s residents outraged. And, meet a substitute teacher who says he was unfairly fired from his job two times for what’s on his MySpace page. Share your thoughts here.

Find out what happened on the show.

sad fact is

I  dont  believe  that  these  children  or  their  parents  is  very  aware  of  the  rules  and  regulations  of  the  telecommunication  act  of  1996  there  are  atty's  that  specialize  in  these  civil  type  issiues  ,  my  advice  for  these  distressed  subjects  is  to  simply  get  the  FACTS .  . It  is  somewhat  unreasonable  to  actually  exspect  teens  to  have  this  info  and  use  it  appropriatly  to  get  results  fast  ,  however  im  sad  that  their  parents  are  not  more  aware  of  what  telecommunication  law  says  and  what  they  need  to  do . Much  of  what  I  view  is  something  I  would  not  feel  comfortable  making  inuendo's  about  ,simply  because  it  is  a  violation  in  and  of  itself  .

Change it to something else

I don't see why it is a problem to have this as your email address...I would assume you were allergic to nuts.  But, it might be good to have a "professional" email address and a "personal" email address, for future employers, etc. without a sense of humor.
I used to work in recruiting and I can tell you that one of the main things that turn employers off is strange or inappropriate email addresses. It makes you look lazy, poorly prepared and that you just don't really care. Get a simple free email address such as hotmail or yahoo with simply your name. I can tell you many a story about bizarre email addresses that were laughed at, passed around the office or just thrown away.

People need to relax.

It's simple, if you don't like something, don't watch it. The OFF button is an amazing and wonderous thing. If someone wants to mess themselves up and photograph it and post it anywhere, thats up to them as well as the consequences that follow. I don't think it's a great idea, but at the same time it's not my life it's thiers.

A few things I would like to say about some stuff that was mentioned. That female mayor that posted a picture or pictures of herself in a bra, it's obvious she works out and is quite attractive....since when is it wrong to be proud of that, oh thats right shes a politician. Correct me if I'm wrong but hasn't the famous Govenor of California been more naked countless times and is just as well toned and proud of his appearence. Since when is being happy with your body a bad thing, I'm not refering to the Facbook girls.

Also one thing I'd like to point out, Dr. Phil mentioned how his sons don't go out and get wrecked and it's not "expected" that they do. At the same time I noticed he didn't mention his daughter in law happens to be a playboy model and appeared much more naked in a magazine well known for what it prints. Playboy may be tasteful but in the end its still a very public well known easy to acces magazine featuring his daughter in law, naked, lewd and suggestive.

I would like to say this, the girl opposing what is being done trully needs to focus more on her own life and less on other peoples. I simply don't understand when it became ok for everyone else to get involved in other peoples decision makings in life. It's obvious her words aren't motivated by care for the facebook girls, it's a simple case of sticking your nose in someone else's life.

As for the substitute teacher that got fired for a questionable song that has nothing to do with his teaching career. That is simply a travesty. Considering now a days in music classes around the country in schools all over.......proudly teach and discuss The Beatles, Led Zepplin, The Rolling Stones, countless blues and jazz musicians. All with much more questionable lyrics and lifestyles.

In closing a few things need to happen, 1. Parents need to be Parents....if you don't want your children to see questionable material or do questionable things, don't let them. There is NO excuse for this. 2. People need keep thier noses out of other peoples decision making and worry more about thier own lives.

Did anyone see the second segment today with Mary and Amanda? I'm glad that Mary stood up for herself because it is hard when someone verbally attacks you uses "ten-dollar" words to make themselves look more intelligent than you. Don't get me wrong I don't agree with what Mary was saying but I think that Mary was being made to look unintelligent by Amanda. I've run into people like Amanda before, being a college student, I often meet people who spout big words and intellectually pleasure themselves in front of other people because it makes them feel good. EVERYONE IS ENTITLED TO THEIR OWN OPINION! I've learned at an early age if you run around jamming your opinions down everyones throat, people tend to not listen. I think if Amanda tones down her forceful dialect more people will listen to her. I agree with the point she was trying to make but the tactics she uses to get people on her side are a bit OVERBOARD. what do you think?
I agree. I didnt like Amanda one bit and she really made herself look bad! And why was she on that forum anyway. Clearly she doesnt agree with it. I believe she went looking for a fight.

AS A MOTHER I AM FLOORED!!!!!!

I simply cannot believe that mother. Isn't it child abuse or endangerment to knowing let your child out of the house when she is admittedly going out to get drunk? Dr. Phil - you were so kind to her (the mom), she needs a wake up call. Why are some parent so afraid to take control and actually ACT like parent rather than their kids' buddies. I can only imagine where that young lady will be in five years. Maybe then her mother will get it.

What's with the judgmental girl?

That girl who mumbled something under her breath seemed really judgmental.  I wonder why she cared so much.

The perseption of Women

I am a 26 yr old who loves the bars and loves to drink. My friends and I get drunk and act stupid as much as most any other 20 some yr olds, I love to flirt, dance and get guys to buy me drinks.... and I compleatly disagree with the posting of these pics. I may be a somewhat typical 20 some yr old, but I was raised to respect myself and my body. I do not think these pics do women justice, they are not the start of a women's movement, they are infact quite counter productive.

It is the pictures of women half dressed and in comprimising positions that keep guys thinking we are stupid, and that they can do what they want to us. The girls who allow men to touch them, say bad things to them and otherwise act inaproprate towards them are part of the reason guys think they can get away with it with any women. I have been grabbed, groped, slapped and even kissed on the lips at the bars by guys I did not know and did not want touching me. It only stopped because I yelled and screamed at them till they (and most others) got the hint that I wouldn't let that slide.. no matter how drunk I am. I know a guy at the bar who touches girls inaproprately while dancing with them, he finds the young, insecure, drunk girls and he does such things as grabing their butt, breast, and even putting his hand down their pants. These girls don't  say anything and are so insecure that they allow it because it is attention. I've seen girls taking off clothes and flashing people.

I live in a college town, we have had at least 2 alcohol related deaths recently (both girls in their early 20's) because of this the city council has outlawed cup specials (these were my nights out).

I guess this all upsets me most because when I see things like this, the way girls/women allow themselves to be treated and the way they treat eachother... I see someone who is insecure about themselves and their body ( I think most all women are these days..), someone who needs attention and is doing what they think  is cool and will get them a guy... but really... show a guy those pictures and ask him if he would respect that girl if he saw her drunk at a bar like that. And if you want to sit and tell me I don't have the right to be upset for someone else like this, then I'll reiderate my other issue with this. I DO NOT want guys treating me this way. I don't want guys to see me drunk and having fun and feel that they can come touch me because I'm flirty, wearing something skimpy or hanging on someone (who I usely know). How I am dressed, how I act and the fact  that I am drunk and flirty doesn't give anyone the right.... Even though so many girls just giggle it away.

I guess this is a double standard, but you can't change this opinion till you stop women from being sex objects, stop little girls from thinking they have to be thin and pretty, and stop teenagers from thinking they have to have sex, be sexy, act sexual and from thinking that drugs, alcohol and sex are cool.

I was in planned parenthood the other day and a group of about 15-16 yr old kids were in there acting like it was so cool that they are in a place that is associated with sex. I don't think these kids are having sex.. I think they're just being stupid... (and smart... they were there to ask questions.. so that's good).

Really People... we need to take controle of our youth (no I don't have kids).... Come on... this isn't an older person's prospective... I'm still in my 20's and I'm still outraged!  Why aren't you????

I agree that Amanda was very pushy and it seemed wasn't very interested in Mary's side of the story.  Amanda, I believe, is doing a great thing, but if she doesn't tone it down she's going to push people away from her instead of making a good point.

30 reasons...

uh oh.

I think this particular show may have just given the facebook group publicity.

I visited the group only to read posts from women who joined the group after the show.

Mary Elizabeth PLEASE READ THIS

Dear Mary Elizabeth

My youngest sister in law began drinking when she was a young teenager.  She, like you, didn't think there was anything wrong with it and felt she had it all under control.  Last spring at the age of 43 she died of end stage liver disease due to severe ethanol abuse.  I FOUND HER DEAD ON HER APARTMENT FLOOR, SHE HAD BEEN LAYING THERE FOR ALMOST 5 DAYS - DEAD. The smell will never ever leave my memory. She left three children under the age of 14 (thankfully they were not living with her but the only reason we even knew to check on her was because she missed her youngest daughter's birthday because she was DEAD) as well as 5 brothers and sisters who were devastated watching her waste away from drunkeness and disease.  Even after she knew she would die she continued to drink.  I walked the halls of the Cleveland Clinic for two and a half years with her while doctors tried to help her get on the liver transplant list but she kept relapsing and finally they made her leave the program, she died within months after that.

Women cannot handle the same volume of alcohol as men.  Women can succumb quickly to irreversable liver disease and DIE.  The fact that you are pretty and/or smart and/or have money and/or have a lot of friends that do and/or do not drink with you will not save your life.  Do your homework.  Learn what you are doing to your body.  Denial won't save your life.  Your mother is living in a dreamworld and needs to get into your face now while she still has just a little bit of say in what happens to you.

I don't care what you post on your Facebook page.  I do care about your health and safety and your future and the future of the children that you will most likely bring into the world before you kill yourself with alcohol.  DO YOUR HOMEWORK.  LOOK UP 'END STAGE LIVER DISEASE' AND SEE YOUR FUTURE.

Please

Mary
