Topic : 01/15 Internet Mistakes

I think this whole issue is pathetic. If a girl or a guy for that matter, wants to get drunk and act like a slut, and end up wrapped around the toilet, and chose to post photos of themselves on a web site that millions of people can see, then that is their choice. Not only do they know that numerous people are able to see these pictures, if they have their family or people they work with on their friends list, and they are able to see these pictures, any person is able to weigh the consequences and know the good and the bad of people seeing these pictures. I'm trying to understand why people are making such a big deal about this. If you want to post pictures of yourself on the web page and don't get that job you wanted because of it, it was no one's fault but your own. On the other hand, if you get fired from your job just because your boss saw the pictures of you hugging a toilet and half naked, that is completely unacceptable. If someone was doing their job as it was supposed to be done without any question of their ability before these pictures were seen, why should they get fired because they like to have fun on the weekends or whenever it is. This is the most pathetic thing I have ever heard. Why are people so concerned about how other people are represented. I'm watching the show right now, for Amanda, if you don't like that this is the way that other people are representing themselves, then mind your own business. For those people like Mary who like to post these pictures, you are in control of your own life, do as you please! And to think that this is getting almost as much attention as someone like Britney Spears and her bad parenting...

I am a 52 year old recovering alcoholic.  Yes, being on the internet is a problem...

but what most concerns me is that many of these young women are already in

the grips of this progressive, deadly disease and will show up (hopefully) they

will make it there) in the rooms of AA in the future.

The young 17 year old is especially at risk as she has been diagnosed with

ADD and another emotional illness.  A majority of alcoholics have come to

drinking to "Medicate" the underlying anxiety, OCD, depression etc.  What they

end up with is disaster.  Women physically are even more at risk for physical

and deadly consequence of alcoholism because to their physical makeup.

I WOULD LOVE TO SEE DR. PHIL DO A LOT MORE EDUCATION ABOUT

THE PROCESS OF ADDICTION, THE GENETIC INHEIRITANCE AND THE

LONG TERM PHYSICAL AND MENTAL CONSEQUENCES. AND TALK

TO PEOPLE LIKE MYSELF WHO HAVE BEEN THERE AND ALMOST

DIED, AND HAVE ONLY A DAILY REPRIEVE.

point out that only people you are friends with can see your pictures and your profile. If you do not want to see someone's photos, do not look at them. I am not saying that people should post up pictures of themselves puking, but if they do, it is their own choice. no one is forcing you to look at it. Underage drinking is not legal, but it is so common now. Nearly all teenagers drink. More than most people think. So the real problem is teenage drinking. If they didn't drink, there would be no "offensive photos."

 I am 24 years old and I have a facebook account and there are pictures of me on facebook. I think it is ridiculous for that Amanda girl to go on television and make it sound like just bc people post stupid pictures like this on facebook that there is something SOOO wrong with it. I agree its not BRILLIANT but get real. This girls posts on facebook are mocking and she is trying to make herself sound better than them.

for example she says:

*Perhaps I should find some Valium and mix it with a few shots of Bacardi. Because all the cool girls are doing it!

*I'll stop putting myself above you when I see you using correct grammar and NOT wrapped around a toilet.

*I'm inclined to think I'm smarter than you are.

*If you don't want to be called a drunken slut....well, don't show everyone photos of you getting really hammered and making out with various people, or vomiting like there's no tomorrow.

*I get wasted, I have a good time, I live it up sometimes. Difference is, I don't take my party photos.

When did anyone say they mixed valium and barcadi? She is personally attacking everyone who is a part of this group, labeling them and categorizing them. And now she attacks their grammar? Good for you Amanda, you can spell. I think this girl is stuck up, snotty, arrogant and flat out rude. I am not saying that putting pictures like that out there is a good idea but I am arguing how she attacked them and how she tried to demean them and talk them down. And apparently kissing someone makes you a drunken slut and so does getting really hammered and vomiting. I am not saying shes wrong that its a bad idea, but GET REAL! So bc I have kissed someone while I was drunk and gotten TOO drunk makes me a slut? No, that just means I had bad judgement one night, Apparenlty this girl is perfect. Absolutely ridiculous. And as for her last quote.....good for her....but SHE DOES MAKE THE SAME MISTAKES, and bc you just publicly announced it, makes you just as "bad".....so according to her previous statements shes a slut too. It didnt take a picture Amanda...you just called yourself out. I am disgusted by this judgemental "holier than though" girl.

I have 3 teenage boys - I made them take their myspace pages off because the material was inappropiate - I was a recruiter for several years, and then in the Human Resources Management field.  If I were still in that field, I would surely take into account and google the applicant to see how they were portraying themselves on line. 

In addition, I am really ticked off as a 49 year old woman who remembers how hard it was to get through an interview years ago if you were child bearing age (it was an employer consideration) or if you were or were not married etc and I can't for the life of me figure out where the National Organization for Women are right now on this subject (are they still around?)   Where are they?  And why aren't they speaking out and educating these young women on how they are hurting themselves and their chances for future advancement?   Presentation is everything...no matter if you think it's your private life or not - Facebook and MySpace are public. 

I was terribly surprised, as well as terribly diappointed, that Dr. Phil didn't come down hard on the mother whose 17-year old daughter is drinking on a reguar basis.  Where was the Dr Phil that normally gets on parents for the behavior of their children?  Where was that Dr Phil?!

He should also have been much harder on the 17-year old, who is fast on her way to becomig an alcoholic!!!

I am starting to think that Dr. Phil is losing his toughness.  What a shame!  I miss the old Dr. Phil.
