Girls dancing on bars half-naked, passed out on the beach, hugging the porcelain … these are photos posted for all to see on the Web site Facebook, in a group called Thirty Reasons a Girl Should Call it a Night. These shocking and provocative pictures are supposedly submitted by the women in the photos themselves. The women say they love to have fun, and this is a way to bond with other girls just like them. But are there unforeseen consequences to letting the public behold you at your worst? Dr. Phil speaks with women on both sides of this debate. Jasmine is the moderator for the group Thirty Reasons and says, although she’s responsible for taking down questionable photos, she hasn’t found one yet! Amanda and Norma are incensed that women would degrade themselves in this way. Hear from the president of a company who uses Web sites like Facebook and MySpace to weed out potential employees. Could documenting your good time on the Internet become your biggest regret? Then, a teen who loves to drink says criticism of Thirty Reasons just reinforces the double standard of gender inequality. What do Dr. Phil and the teen’s mother think? Plus, a mayor’s sexy photo has her town’s residents outraged. And, meet a substitute teacher who says he was unfairly fired from his job two times for what’s on his MySpace page. Share your thoughts here.

Find out what happened on the show.

this behavior can be deadly

My brother who had just turned 20, died eight months ago today afer he passed out from binge drinking and his "friends" drew all over him.  They drew penises and sexual innuendos.  One of the remarks "TEA BAG ME" is considered a sexual assault.  He woke up and was irate.  In his drunken state we think he thought he had been "teabagged".  Four kids have been arrested for assault and battery.  Go to www.griffensgift.com to see his story.  It has been a horrific experience for our family.

I had never heard of such behavior but know unfortunately how deadly it can be.  I saw his morgue photos and can find nothing humorous in humiliating another person.  Kids need to stop and think that this kind of behavior as in my brother's case can result in another person losing their life.

He made a terrible choice to binge drink.  He paid the price.  He lost his life.  To parents who may read this I plead with you to share his story.  Your child may be like him and believe "friends" always take care of you.  They don't always do so.  To young people who may read this I say stop and think about your behavior.  The joke stops being funny when someone winds up dead.  It can happen, it already has.

in my opinion

I think that theres not anything wrong with what these Girls are doing.. one of the women on the show said that "i wouldnt post anything that i wouldnt want my mom to see".. if you dont want your mom to see it then you shouldnt be doing it at all. If thats what you do (drink) then your not ashamed of it. Its okay if you dont do it,but if these girls want to post what they do and be real about it then thats fine. its not really affecting anyone else at all. its there life ,let them do what they want with it. I understand you may think it looks dumb or not right but thats only from your perspective.if you want to have a opinion you must let otheres have theres to.Just because you say its wrong doesnt make it fact, and what im sayings not fact either. If these girls and there friends enjoy these pictures and it makes them laugh and remind them of the good times they had, then good for them. If you dont do it,cuz you dont believe in it,good for you .. im glad you live up to your beliefs but if you wunna live up to yours let them live up to theirs.

01/15 Internet Mistakes

....Here's what I have to say about people who post innapropriate stuff on The Internet. I think they should seriously stop it. Really now, I've been on the computer since I was ten, and I never posted pictures of myself naked, I've never posted gross pictures of puking or gory, bloody, violent pictures, either. Why would anyone do that? It's disgusting, it's rude, and I think it's an excuse to grab attention for yourself. Many people are looking at what you do, what you say, and what you post on The Internet. This includes children too, and letting a child see gross things is horrible. Letting anyone see gross things is just rude and bad. I think that the people who post disgusting stuff should wise up a bit, and think about what they're doing, and who they are affecting, and how, before they post things. You know, I won't even go near MySpace or FaceBook, just because I believe that they are unsafe and bad sites. Half the time I go to post on my favorite site, I won't even do it, just because I'm shy about it. Before I even join a site, I always check it out. Most of the sites I go on are Moderated well. Maybe all, I'm not sure. But really, the point is that I think people should just be careful when they post things. That's my opinion on the matter.

Where do you draw the line?

I'm new to the forum!

I have never participated in anything like the things that are being displayed on the group... in less than two weeks, I'll be of legal drinking age in the province, and I can't imagine getting "loaded" and posting my pictures online for everyone to see... I would be embarrassed if I went out and did something like that and somehow ended up on the internet.

Someone on the show said something like, "If you didn't want your mother to see it, don't post it on the internet".

I have my mom on my facebook... she can be pretty strict... but she has found nothing wrong with what I have written or what I have posted in facebook.

What I am wondering is... how much information is too much information, and how far is too far?

With my facebook... only the people that I have added can see my facebook profile and my pictures.  Only people that I have added can see my Myspace page.  Only people that I have added can see my blog.  If that is not enough... what else can you do to not send a negative message out there?

01/15 Internet Mistakes

I feel that this is absolutly ridiculous.. What does this have to do with the image of women?  A. FACEBOOK CAN BE SET TO PRIVATE.... so only the people that you want to see your profile can. . . I don't think that it is a "huge mistake" ..and the girl who opposes this site seems like a complete straight edge snob ( not that she is but thats def how she comes off).. not everybody in the world cares about what other people think.. and that is the way it should be!  those who matter don't mind... and those who mind don't matter!  yes i agree that it might not be the smartest to post it in an area that would be available for everyone to see but that is why they make it private.  I don't understand why amanda is so worried about other peoples lives anyway. Worry about your own image and let others worry about thiers.

01/15 Internet Mistakes

Amanda tries way too hard to make herself look intelligent. She tries to use big words and talk down to the other girls to try and make herself above them. She seems like a very dull and judgemental person. It is not the most brilliant idea to post pictures of yourself like they are, but that doesn't make them any less of a person. And employers shouldn't be using these pictures to judge a person on their work abilities!! This is what they are doing in their personal time, not while they are supposed to be working. I mean c'mon. But if these girls want to post pictures of themselves when they are drinking so that they can have a laugh and make other people laugh at them being idiots. WHO CARES!!

Mind your own business

I think this whole issue is pathetic. If a girl or a guy for that matter, wants to get drunk and act like a slut, and end up wrapped around the toilet, and chose to post photos of themselves on a web site that millions of people can see, then that is their choice. Not only do they know that numerous people are able to see these pictures, if they have their family or people they work with on their friends list, and they are able to see these pictures, any person is able to weigh the consequences and know the good and the bad of people seeing these pictures. I'm trying to understand why people are making such a big deal about this. If you want to post pictures of yourself on the web page and don't get that job you wanted because of it, it was no one's fault but your own. On the other hand, if you get fired from your job just because your boss saw the pictures of you hugging a toilet and half naked, that is completely unacceptable. If someone was doing their job as it was supposed to be done without any question of their ability before these pictures were seen, why should they get fired because they like to have fun on the weekends or whenever it is. This is the most pathetic thing I have ever heard. Why are people so concerned about how other people are represented. I'm watching the show right now, for Amanda, if you don't like that this is the way that other people are representing themselves, then mind your own business. For those people like Mary who like to post these pictures, you are in control of your own life, do as you please! And to think that this is getting almost as much attention as someone like Britney Spears and her bad parenting...

my point is...

Quote From: charise820

But were do you stop.  I understand not hiring someone that is drunk all the time.  I wouldn't want that, but what if someone not hires people based on there profile page.  lets say it's dark with an angel (one that myself has had).

dr phil made a good point you need to have people around your children with good values but what makes your values more important than mine.  I have pic on my profile of my cousins horseing around they are not drunk they have on all there clothes but are were my bras over there close doing a runway walk. LOL

Also it is so easy for any one to make a profile of someone on myspace.  Remember dr phil had a show on students doing that to there teacher.  with her personal information.  I know we are talking about these young girls that think this is cool (which I don't understand).  but what if you are going to hire someone and you search and they have never had a myspace profile but you find one because someone stole there identity or they are just being down right mean.  Just something to think about.  Also if you don't hire them based on there myspace or facebook or youtube have you told them that was a reason and what you didn't like about it.

Had about working fast food I have made good money working there before.  to make it sounds as if is a horrible job.  well I will remind you someone has to do it so that you can enjoy your fries and your buger.  just like that person that has to take out the trash too.

and you should know this you clean houses...great and you pay great but not everyone that does makes what you and your people make.  Nothing is beneith anyone.

I'm sure you are a nice person, and it wasn't my intention to demean fast food workers at all...obviously, we need them and I'm quite kind to them...and all food service people whenever I deal with them.... and I respect them for getting off their behinds and getting a job at all!

However, my point was that that should not be a lifetime goal....and if you mess up your reputation by putting garbage up on the net, then that may be the only job you CAN get!  I've worked as a waitress many years ago....it was the most difficult, most exhausting job I ever had, and it gave me a great respect for anyone who does that type of work....but, it was never my goal to do that forever. I wanted better...and I got better...by watching myself and guarding my reputation like the gold that it is!

You asked me what makes my values better than yours? I don't know you personally so I cannot answer that because I don't know your values. What I do know is that as a society we all have to follow rules and try to live together in peace and harmony. It is NOT okay for everyone to do whatever they want to do and have the "screw you" attitude that is seen all too often. I know what common sense tells me....and it says that too many people are too out of control, rude, obnoxious and don't care about others...and even sadder: they don't care about themselves, obviously, or about 98% of the trash on these websites would not be up there for all to see. (and you know as well as I do that I'm not talking about sweet pictures of children and families that someone posts on their site!)

By the way, when I hire someone, I do NOT care what their religious beliefs are; that has no bearing on the job they will do. I never even ask them that question. I also do not judge them on their appearance...(although it's nice when they come to a job interview looking presentable, as if they actually care about getting the job)....and I have hired people from all walks of life as well, and all ethnicities.

And, yes, to answer your question, I DO tell someone why I will not hire them if I find something objectionable on a website, because I always give them a chance to explain it...I am a pretty broadminded person and I do try to be fair.

Freedom is a wonderful thing:  freedom of speech is important....but along with this freedom comes responsibilities and consequences.

Bottom line is what I said before: if you don't want to suffer the consequences, don't post the garbage on the websites at all!
