Republican presidential candidate, Mike Huckabee recently made statements that he would like to amend the U.S. Constitution to line up with God’s standards.  He wants to modify the Constitution of the United States to implement teachings specifically from the Holy Bible.  Although I believe that the government will one day modify our constitution rights, I do not believe that enforcing Christian values upon the entire nation is going to change anything.  In fact, when the U.S. Constitution is modified, the world will be a much more dangerous place to live in.  Throughout history, so-called Christians (particularly the Roman Catholic Church) have single-handedly been responsible for the slaughter of millions of people (whether innocent or not).  Today, there are too many Christian denominations such as Jehovah’s Witnesses, Seventh-day Adventists, Mormonism, etc. (all having various interpretations of the Bible) for Mike Huckabee’s plan to work proficiently.  There’s too much infighting and misunderstanding even among Christians (of all races and backgrounds).  Hell, there’s too much bickering even among Christians who all attend one church.  That being said, I have nothing against the Holy Bible.  I believe that the Bible (Original King James Version) is indeed the Word of God.  Of course, I was raised as a Christian from the age of thirteen.  I attended the same church from the age of thirteen.  However, I no longer attend church.  The last time I attended church was in July of 2007.  Jesus and I are still cool.  However, some of Jesus’ people are a trip.  Therefore, I decided to stop attending church.  Maybe one day, I’ll have a change of heart and start attending church again.  Until then, it’s just me and Jesus.  I admit I’m a sinner, but I’m still a child of God.

In my personal opinion, people should not claim Christianity unless they are really living according to God’s standards.  Some of the worst kinds of people (in my opinion) are individuals who profess to be Christians, but as soon as they leave a church service they act just like the people they degrade and criticize (while in church).  I know Christians who criticize people (even people in the faith) for being homosexuals, drug addicts, alcoholics, unfaithful husbands/wives, liars, etc.  But these same individuals are gossipers (backbiters), treacherous persons, and two-faced hypocrites.  Why is worse?  Is it the Christian sister or brother that betrays you, gossips (or lies) about you behind your back, or causes you to believe he/she loves you only to later realize that this person never truly cared anything about you, or IS IT THE SINNER MAN/WOMAN (the drug addict, fornicator, homosexual)?  Personally, I’d rather take my chances with the sinner because then I won’t be caught off guard if something terrible happens between us.  I think I’d rather be betrayed by a sinner than to be betrayed by a Christian friend that I’ve known for years, especially when that Christian claims to have Godly love.  I expect the world to do crazy things, because I know the world is truly wicked.  I expect the world to try its best to undermine anyone who resides in it.  However, it is always much worse to suffer wrongdoing at the hands of a close friend or relative, especially when you’re an extremely emotional person.

I think many Christians need to do a reality check, especially those that are Bible thumpers, extremely critical of every else’s shortcomings except their own, and those that are ministers of the gospel of Jesus Christ.  Ministers of God really need to be careful what they say and do, because you could be driving people away from the church (and not necessarily from God) by questionable statements you make (especially from the pulpit), and your actions toward your congregants or around them.

The difference between Jesus (while he was in the world) condemning sin and many Christians today condemning sin is Jesus was actually living according to God’s Word.  Jesus was sinless.  Many Christians today who condemn others for their shortcomings aren’t sinless.  However, there are Christians in the world who actually practice (in all sincerity) what they preach to others.  God will always have people that are truly faithful to Him, and who are dedicated to uplifting His values and His grace.</p>

I Agree, to a point

I am one of those Christians that you have mentioned.  In fact, I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.  The one that you refer to as Mormon.  Dont' confuse me with FLDS.  There is no relation whatsoever.  I think that Mr. Huckabee has forgotten that the constitution was set up by God fearing men with Christian values.  If you look at the original context of the constitution, it was set up with the same ideals of the Ten Commandments.  Unfortunately, we have many people (lawyers, judges, politicians, etc.) that have changed and created loopholes in the very ideals that this country was started on. for their own benefit and purposes.  This is what has created the problem.  We just need to go back to what the original constitution stood for.  There is no justice anymore.

I know many Christians that are "one-day-a-week" Christians.  They obviously don't live the way they are taught.  I was raised up to be a God fearing person.  I try to live as God would have me.  I am not perfect, no one is; but I try to be the best person I can be.  If all people in the world lived the teachings of Christ as taught in the King James version of the bible, (I say that because I don't think anyone has the right to change the word of God to conform to their own teachings and beliefs.) our nation and world would be a much better place.

If you don't go to church because of the people who live Christianity once a week, then you are missing the point of going to church.  You are hurting yourself because of other people's actions.  We go to church for ourselves and what we can gain from the teachings there.  We cannot dictate or decided how everyone is going to live once they leave church.  Sometimes I think we wish we could, because it is an embarrassment to religion in general, but that judgment has to be left up to God.  We need to go to church so that we can be reminded regularly how to be better neighbors, friends, families and examples.  There is no other way than attending church.  You don't hear teachings like that during the week in work settings or school settings.  Mind you there are a lot of churches out there that are a little whacked, but there are also a lot that have a lot of good to them.  You just haven't found the right one to make you happy.  I have, and I will never live my life without God or without attending church.  I need that constant reminder of how much He loves me and what He has done for me and my family.  No one can take that knowledge from me no matter how they live their lives outside of church.

If the people in this world would quit hating each other, try harder to serve each other, be kind, don't take what isn't ours, accept people for who and what they are we would have Utopia.  Of course this is an unrealistic dream, but don't tell me that these things wouldn't make a difference.  Obviously a lot of parents aren't taking the initiative to teach their children these principles now-a-days and we are creating a more selfish, uncaring, hateful generation to lead our country in the future, and people say we don't need religion?  You kick religion and a belief in God out of every aspect of our lives, it will come back to haunt the very core of our beings.
