Some teens are catty, mean and love to spread lies, but what happens when gossip goes too far? Kim says her daughter, Kailey, was the victim of a prank. Two of Kailey's cheer squad friends took a picture of her while she was in the shower, and the image supposedly made its way around the football team. Now, in the aftermath, the whole town is buzzing. You won't believe what the fathers of the alleged perpetrators have to say about the incident. Another girl claims she was also a victim when one of the girls took an unwanted photo of her as a joke. Hear from this alleged victim. And, Mandie and Nikki threatened the life of a classmate on MySpace after they thought she was going to steal Nikki's boyfriend. They were convicted in a court of law three years ago, and now both families say they face losing their homes because of this teen gossip. What do the girls say about their actions? And, Elizabeth started a Web site that allows anyone to gossip about anything. When a victim of lies posted on her site tells her story, will Elizabeth change her view? Share your thoughts here.

Find out what happened on the show.

Why are they not being charged?

The girls that took the picture broke the law. It is illegal to be in possession of child pornography; no reason whatsoever is acceptable to be in possession much less distribution. There are thousands of instances some of which are doing stories and come across the pictures that are charged. I would say that a nude 13 year old in a shower would be appealing to many people of questionable taste. These girls should have been charged, as a boy would have been had he taken photos of a girl in the shower without her knowledge, especially since this is the second offense. Where are the police or FBI? How many times are they going to get away the crime? That the parents find this to be a "joke" is simply appalling to me. This is humiliation for humiliation sake. What mean spirited girls! They must have really learned their lesson since they did it more than once.

sick!

oh my gosh!!! I am just sick for this girl & her mother & family....Taking a picture of someone in the shower, and spreading it through a school of hormone raging teen's!! it is just plain mean, and these "kid's" knew exactly what they were doing. I think the girl's responsible for the pic recieved a slap on the wrist... they should ABSOLUTLY be kicked off the cheer squad!!! Since when do we put kid's who bully in charge of school spirit? Not to mention living in a small town.... that just makes the situation more esculated! It makes me just plain sick.... and the parent's of these bullies should be horrified instead of defensive!

To the family, who now has to deal with this..... I am thinking of you, I was in tear's watching you guy's on stage today... how brave you are for shedding light on these girl's. It is not easy to get on television and broadcast something you wish you could forget... I am also a mother of 2 girl's and can't imagine an ordeal like this.... hope you can find a way to heal this hurt (((hug's)))

Gossip gets people...

People who gossip gets them nowhere in life.  It only leads to trouble.  Throughout middle school on to high school, I was the one that people gossiped about, especially in band.  I am glad I am out of middle school and high school.  I am glad I am in college.  People seem like they are more mature in college.

Real life gossip girls

Finally there is another person who shares my views! This reply is "right on" - if parents knew what their children were doing things like this probably wouldn't happen. And, why do pre-teens and teens need cell phones, especially in school? I'm sorry but that is NOT the place for them. I've heard people say computers, cell phones, the internet, etc...has created a lot of our societal problems today. Just look at the stuff you can view on the internet! Not only view, but there are sites that let you build a web site for free and here you can post anything! MySpace, YouTube, and others, these sites allow anything to be posted, true or not! I won't judge all teens by the ones who are up to no good and even up to criminal-level activity. There are many good teens in the world who do good things! Bless Them! It's the bad ones that we hear about, have always heard about and probably always heard about! What scares me the most is, these kids are the future, and what kind of an adult will they be!
Wow! You guys are pretty harsh! Yes parents should absolutely monitor their kids but once they're teenagers it's much more difficult particularly when it comes to computers. What they did was wrong but they're kids and kids do stupid things. Even a judge wouldn't think that someone saying or writing "I want to kill you" means you'll actually do it.. I really think the parents who are trying to sue are WAAAAAAAY out of line. What are they suing for? Is their kid genuinely damaged by some stupid comments written by hormonally overwrought girls? Honestly! The girls have apologized and done their community service and they don't seem like gang members or anything. Let it die! How will their kid feel if they manage to financially destroy another family? THAT will have much longer lasting impression than the foolish comments posted online.

Can relate

My daughter is going through a similar thing -- in college!!  Some girls just never grow up and I think they need to "nip it in the bud" while these girls are young.  Maybe if they had major consequences for their actions they would think twice about doing it.

01/21 Real Life Gossip Girls

The message you gave the girls and their parents about the photo that was taken of the girl in the shower was okay, as far as it went.  However, you should have let them know, and especially the Dad of the girls who took the photo, that it is against the law to take a photo of a person in the shower, and that the girls who did this, can be arrested and charged.  This went a lot further than just gossip.  Also, the children of today need to learn that gossip is not okay, and doing things to hurt other people is not okay, and it is what leads to a lot of the violence today.  Back in the "good ole days" these kinds of things were nipped in the bud by parents and teachers alike.  And the same should be done today.  Instead of the Dad taking the position he does, he should have disciplined his daughter for her behavior and he and his daughter both should have apologized to the girl and her parents and made things right.

Where I live there was a similar situation- The difference being the young girls posed for naked pictures that were intended for their boyfriends.  Needless to say the pictures made the rounds of the Jr. High School and onto the internet.  When the girls parents found out there was little that they could do.  All of the people involved were underage.  The DA stated that there was nothing that he could do.  When an adult male downloaded the pictures HE was charged with child pornography.  The young boys who circulated the photos were off scott free.

Why does this kid still have a camera phone? if i were her mother I would grab that thing and smash it under my foot right in front of her. She'd never see another either! She has proven she can't be trusted and she has a mean spirited sense of "humor" (?!). This girl is nasty and her father is playing it down. She even said it was an accident?! WHAT??? The camera accidentally flew into her hand and her friend accidentally distracted the girl while she accidentally clicked a picture and accidentally sent it to a guy on the football team??? Yeah it was an ACCIDENT. Her parents are buying that line too. They are living in dream land.   Once was bad enough! Twice and she would lose her phone and ALL other priveleges including cheerleading and anything else that means something to her.

01/21 Real Life Gossip Girls

I've often thought, if you wouldn't say it to a person, then you shouldn't say it about them.

People gossip, I doubt there is any one person on this board who hasn't, I would say most if not all of us have been the victim of gossip at one time or another, whether at school, work or just in the town.  Most gossip is MEANT to be hurtful (the one with the website saying there were POSITIVES on it, should go back to school and learn to READ a little better), its easy to hide behind a screen name and slam someone.

The first girl's parent should be angry, and the girl should be as well, but I agree with one poster who asked why did no one in authority EVER see this picture ? Not calling her a liar, I'm NOT, but that made me wonder as well.

As for the other two, it goes back to one of last weeks shows, the INTERNET IS PUBLIC, meaning ANYTHING can be seen, if you wouldn't put it in the papers, or on a billboard, then keep it off facebook and myspace, its THAT SIMPLE, hopefully ll PROVE to people once and for all that these are PUBLIC FORUMS and you can be held ACCOUNTABLE for anything you type, also this MIGHT (hope springs eternal) convince parents that maybe the computer NEEDS to be monitored, you want P RIVACY, move out and pay your own bills. Yes, teens should be given privacy to a point, knocking on their door, NOT reading their mail (UNLESS you have REAL suspisions) or listening on phone calls (again UNLESS you have REAL concerns) betray my trust, the bedroom door stays open from now on, the mail will be intercepted, the mouse and Keyboard, hell the WHOLE computer can disappear rather quickly etc. Personally I have no problem with looking over their shoulders while they are on MSN, and if I can't see it, it probablysholdn't be there.

Should the perents be sued, personally I think the girls did the time, and they did seem remorseful, and they learned a lesson, however maybe it would make parents stop seeing the computer as a babysitter, and maybe monitor their kids activities a bit closer, so I have two minds about it.

the law

Quote From: kec132

posting nude photos of a minor is illegal and by definition porn.
Definitions - Child Pornography and Related Areas (federal statute) Under 18 U.S. Code Section 2256, the following definitions apply: minor means any person under the age of eighteen years. visual depiction includes undeveloped film and videotape, and data storedon computer disk or by electronic means which is capable of conversion into a visual image;… identifiable minor (A) means a person (i)(I) who was a minor at the time the visual depiction was created, adapted, or modified; or (II) whose image as a minor was used in creating, adapting, or modifying the visual depiction; and (ii) who is recognizable as an actual person by the person's face, likeness, or other distinguishing characteristic, such as a unique birthmark or other recognizable feature; and (B) shall not be construed to require proof of the actual identity of the identifiable minor.   This is just a part of the us law on child pornography. Just so there is no misinterpretation for certain people yes it is against the law in the USA and since we live here taking pictures of miners is a very big deal!!!!!!!!!!
