Do you think the government should be allowed to keep you from wearing something others may find offensive? A debate is gaining attention across the country: Should baggy pants be banned? You’ve seen them, primarily worn by men: oversized pants hanging so low that sometimes the entire behind shows! Local ordinances in 12 states have banned the low-slung look -– but are they unfairly targeting African-Americans? Dr. Phil speaks with guests on both sides of the debate -- including parents. And, Reverend Al Sharpton and Grammy nominated hip-hip artists the Ying Yang Twins join the show with their views on banning baggy pants. Get up to speed on this issue, before YOU get caught with your pants down! Join the discussion.

Find out what happened on the show.

AGREED !

This is a topic that we should not even be disscusing. I think anyone who says that baggy pants means uneducated, thug, no job needs to wake up and pull their head out of their old a**'s. I personally dont think that saggin is attractive but who are you to judge someone on their appereance? I am a college graduate and am married to a wonderful husband who has a VERY stable job and background, doesnt have a criminal history and guess what ? He sags his pants!!! This also isnt racially charged..You see every color wearing baggy pants..Its a fashion statement!! Not a criminal act. So your willing to put away some hard working man and take him away from his family because of how he is dressed? Why arent we talking about those video hoes who are shakin their bare a** wearing nothing but thongs? And your worried about being disrespected by boxers? Seems pretty pathetic to me.
hell ya ! word to that !

pants

Who cares!  I don't particularly like those baggy pants BUT it certainly is better than seeing a 50 women in short shorts and a tank top, now that's gross.  Let's outlaw that sight.  Let them wear whatever they want, who cares, they're not hurting anyone.  If you don't like it don't look!

Baggy Pants

I think that the baggy pants should not be allowed. I think they are nasty looking. If my grand son wore them i would not take him out in public. I do not enjoy seeing boys under garments showing and my 13 year old grand daughter feels the same way. She thinks it looks tacky and in bad taste. They should pass a law that all boys or men should wear their pante up around their waste wher they belong. Thank you  for letting me voice my thoughts on this matter.

01/28 The Baggy Pants Debate

Quote From: roylyn

It appears to me that they should not even wear pants. Why bother, it looks clumsy and dangerous to be shuffleing along wondering when the pants will fall. Just forgo the pants and wear your shorts, cheaper on the parents who have not raised you right in the first place. You have no respect for your parents or public - just wanting attention.  It is disgusting to see this, so just don't wear pants and we can admire your shorts.  They can really feel freedom of expression by exposing themselves to children and the elderly.  Common sense should prevail sometimes and I'm tired of these whinning, uneducated, dirty looking kids wanting me to accept their baggy pants and not be judgemental.  Of course the public is judgemental, pull up your pants or take them off.

you dont really understand why kids do that .. sometimes there pants are to far up and messsin with the yeaaah . if the would just make sure that the shirt covers the pants that would be fine cuz that how i where my pants and i feels good to be like that and i dont think that the law with change that

this is what I did!

I am the mother of 6 boys and I hate the whole baggy pants thing! So after trying EVERYTHING I could think of from telling them that I would comprimise with them and if they want to where their pants baggy that is their choice but they had to be up and wear a belt. When they didn't work I finally found a threat that did and that would be that they could where what they want but if their pants are down to where I would be able to see the crack of their butts if they weren't wearing underware then I would make them wear a thong! I haven't had much problem since then!

why are people making a big deal out of baggy pants?

im a 15 year old african american female who attend high school and i dont think the government or anybody else should tell these boys how they can or should wear their pants because they didnt buy them.  and it is stupid to have to spend time in jail or receive a fine just for wearing baggy pants.  and to me it aint offensive or disrespectful. i see it everyday. and if it bothers people that much then they dont have to look at the boys' butts.  i mean they are talking about it like the boys are actually exposing their butts, but they are not doing that. they wear underwear, boxers, and shorts under their pants so why are they making a big deal. now i could see if they were wearing tighty whities then they could say something because if they were their cracks probably would show. ive seen boys take their pants off in school to play basketball and it aint nothing wrong with that because they have on baller shorts. and thats exactly what they have on under their baggy pants. what they need to do if they want to make a big deal out of something is to say something about some of these big girls who where thongs, short shorts and skirts, and real tight pants that reveal their cracks. NOW THAT'S JUST NASTY AND DISGUSTING!!! Then they wanna blame hip hop but that is not the only culture that wears their pants baggy and below their butt. because some rock stars wear pants below their butt to, they just be tight. And people shouldnt just jump to conclusions thinking that because they wear their pants like this that they are criminals, because thats wrong they wouldnt want anybody accusing them of something because of the way they dress so dont do it to the boys.

01/28 The Baggy Pants Debate

i'm a 25 year old black male. I dont believe anyone has the right to decide what or how you wear your clothes. i dont think that people should wear there pants below there behind, but at the same time if they do, thats on them. I sag, but if u look at my butt, u cant see anything but a shirt. i don't believe in wearing extra tight pants, but i don't complain about people wearing them. Just because a person doesn't believe in something, doesn't mean everyone should have to change their ways to satisfy dat person or persons. And people should not stereotype people because of the way they dress. When i go to an interview i pull them up, but at the same time i shouldn't be looked at like a criminal because my pants are saggin

crazyy ridiculos

I just watched the episode and I was amazed at how out of control this whole topic has gotten. I think that there are much more important issues to be worrying about than wearing baggy pants. I dont find it attractive but I dont think that it is worth making illegal. People are just blowing this whole thing way out of proportion!
