Do you think the government should be allowed to keep you from wearing something others may find offensive? A debate is gaining attention across the country: Should baggy pants be banned? You’ve seen them, primarily worn by men: oversized pants hanging so low that sometimes the entire behind shows! Local ordinances in 12 states have banned the low-slung look -– but are they unfairly targeting African-Americans? Dr. Phil speaks with guests on both sides of the debate -- including parents. And, Reverend Al Sharpton and Grammy nominated hip-hip artists the Ying Yang Twins join the show with their views on banning baggy pants. Get up to speed on this issue, before YOU get caught with your pants down! Join the discussion.

Find out what happened on the show.

01/28 The Baggy Pants Debate

Quote From: mrsddaland

First, I really wish Al Sharpton had not been included in this show. He is such an idiot that I want to disagree with everything that comes out of his mouth. Al Sharpton should never be consulted about anything, in my opinion.

Second, I don't like anyone showing their underwear regardless of whether they're male, female or both, black, white or striped. I don't want to see your bra straps. I don't want to see your thong. I don't want to see your boxers. It's called UNDERWEAR for a reason. You wear it UNDER your clothes.

Finally, you are free to wear whatever you want. Just know that if you're showing your butt, I'm not going to feel safe around you. I will move to the other side of the street, put myself between my daughter, my purse and you, watch your every move.

Oh, and also, I'm a hiring agent. You won't be hired looking like that.

You have no right to be offended. You CHOSE to look like that.

OMG!  I think I LOVE you!!  hahaha You hit the NAIL on the HEAD!   God Bless You!

baggy pants

I think it looks funny, I laugh when ever I see them hanging down. it looks like a wine O, that i used to see as a kid. if it were ever to happen that the pants fall down, I would laugh even harder. I sure wont even look at a guy, cute or not, if he's got baggy going on.

Are you crazy or just selfish!!!!!!

Quote From: bigron

Hi Dr. Phil,  I would consider myself an educated person brought up in a good setting by my 2 great parents.  I am a 36 year old white male.  I have very strong opinions on this issue.  First of all I do not think it is strictly a race issue.  Baggy pants are part of a variety of different cultures, I AM VERY SAD TO SAY.  Second of all,  baggy pants has a direct impact on my shopping experience.  I probably do not shop as much as I should however when I do explain to me why I can never find the correct waist size at stores.  I have an answer.  this is because every one of these individuals who choose to wear baggy pants are wearing my size pants.  A 36 inch waist.  They deplete the stores inventory and I can never find my size in stock.  I full y support a ban on baggy pants. I think parents need to step up to the plate and monitor the cloths that the kids wear.  It is unacceptable.  Message to the baggy pants people.  You look ridiculous.  You are ridiculous.  Grow up get a job and look presentable, not like a hoodlum.  The joke is " I wouldn't worry to much about these people running from the police they would trip." The bottom line is people who wear baggy pants present themselves as uneducated, no parent supervision and most of all look like an idiot. If they spent half the time looking for a job as they did by pulling up their pants I guess I wouldn' fault them.  Don't hand me this garbage " I need to express myself." Grop up get a job and look professional.  Please ban baggy pants.  I guess this is worst of all.  These baggy pants people are the future of our country.  Help Us Dr. Phil.

So let me get this right you want to band baggy pants because your shopping experience has been some how intruded upon. That is the most ridiculuos reason i have ever heard for taking away someones rights.

I agree with bigron, i find that the "gothic" people of this wolrd might worship the devil and I DONT LIKE IT!!!But do i have the right to tell them what to wear?  NO NO NO NO they have the right to wear what ever they want to they bought and if THEY LIKE IT, I LOVE IT.  You say that you CONSIDER yourself to be an educated man but if you are educated then that education should tell you that just because their pants are saggin does not mean that they are not educated what you see is not always what you get.  I have two teenage boys and they like to sagg thier pants and i allow it to an extent but they are BOYS not MEN!! There is an old saying that goes like this:  "when i was a child i behaved like a child but when i became and adult I put away childish things" Let these children be children go an find somethin else to do with your educated time.  DONT HAND ME THIS GARBAGE!!!!!! BECAUSE YOU CAN'T BE SERIOUS!!!!!!

saggy pants

I personally don't mind if guys are wearing baggy pants as long as it's covered up by a shirt so no one sees the underwear. I don't think this is a race issue either. I think though that if guys who are wearing these sagging pants have top stop then the women who wear close to nothing should stop as well. I wouldn't want to look at anyone's underwear like that, man or woman.

I can't notice the race of the kid...

when I'm too distracted by the skid-marked boxers he's wearing.  Ewwww!  No one wants to see that!

Show me a guy who doesn't own skid-marked boxers, and I'll bet he's a guy who wears something else  or goes without.

01/28 The Baggy Pants Debate

The baggy pants issue is not just about young men/boys, there are also young women/girls who wear this style. It also covers all races - go to the Mall of America.  You will see the variety of people. I don't care to see anyones shorts.  I have seen dirty (poopy) underwear on both sexes and that has completely turned me away from this style.  If you are going to do this style PLEASE be clean.  My eyes have been permantly scared.

Baggy Pants Syndrome

I think Dr. Phil's show today was just ridiculous, how can the government try and do such a thing,  Kids are only wearing what is made out in the fashion industry, its not their fault that other people invented this baggy pants syndrome and only wearing what is made, why penalize the men when the women are wearing more revealing clothing than the baggy pant men are, least their bums are covered and all you see is boxers or pj bottoms..I admit wearing pants like this is unprofessional like, but that can change, wear suitable clothing to work and your comfy clothes afterwork right? I think this is stupid, people should be able to wear what they want, whether its baggy pants, revealing tops, tight jeans...whatever it may be just leave them alone, for an example maybe other people didnt like the way the guests were dressed today,,,,leave it at that.....Wear On Baggy Pant Lovers....Wear On

01/28 The Baggy Pants Debate

Quote From: mom2doxies

OK, first of all baggy pants are a "fashion Statement" (and I say that loosely!)
but making LAWS about them???? That will never work! Who is the judge on that one?
Ridiculous!
Personally, I think they look AWFUL. There is nothing more idiotic than watching someone TRYING to walk with there @ss hanging out, and holding up there pants at the crotch with one hand!

My Theory: The LOWER your pants, the LOWER your IQ!
I like your theory...you're 100% on the money!

???

I am twenty two and i will be eight months pregnant in June. Now why would anyone want to see me in my string bikini this summer? Normal people will be reading this praying "God please don't let her do that!!" because it is a gross thought. NORMAL people don't want to see a man's ass hanging out of their jeans and NORMAL people don't want to see a woman eight months pregnant wearing a string bikini. some things need to be left to the imagination! My ex boyfriend used to sag his jeans and it made me so mad that I pants him in the middle of Walmart one day. Sadly his boxers came down with it. Needless to say for the rest of the time we were dating, he wore a belt and only showed an inch or less of his boxers. I believe if more people would do this, there would be less sagging. Thank you Dr. Phil for doing this show. Sagging is disrespectful of women and children alike. My nieces, nephews and younger cousins don't need to be exposed to that crap. And I can't very well put a blindfold over their eyes every time they go out. so please please quit showing your ass!!! It's not right!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Baggy Pants Topic

Quote From: hpmx59

The Baggy Pants Debate Doctor Phil Doctor Phil I am staying out of this debate because if I do debate----

then I will get into trouble. See you on Monday Janurary 28th, 2008.  Sincerley Your. Russell Vlaanderen.---

I'm from London, Ontario, Canada and i just watched todays episode about baggy pants, from the ages of 13-17 i use to wear baggy pants, and the reason why i use to wear it was not just because of hip-hop but also because i use to think i was "gangster" hip hop isnt the only reason why baggy pants are being worn, like im surprised no one brought up the topic about gangsters. I dont speak for everyone, but for my self when i grew up more I learned baggy pants isnt for me. My parents didnt do much about the choice of clothing i was wearing, because they knew i was gonna learn on my own what i will encounter when i wear that style and go out. Im not against it, its the persons choice. I know the subject is jsut about baggy pants, but if the Governor ofd Dallas is gonna ban baggy pants than they should also banned, goth cloths or other type of style, because they both give out "bad" images.
